Alternative "milks" are common in the US. They can't always be sniffed. I drank slightly thick almond milk once then only noticed the next day that it was almost pudding ; - ; (our dairy's lower quality than other countries and has hormones that can mess with us, which is why alternative "milks" are popular for some)

There is also one other simple reason: water/milk expands when frozen. if you put milk in a rigid container and freeze the milk the Ridgid container will break
