I put Mint and Octoprint on an old laptop and it works like a treat, amazing how helpful it is to not have to get up and mess with inserting micro SD cards or starting prints from a small cheaply-machined click wheel.
@odw322 жыл бұрын
This! Especially with Pi-pricing having gone completely haywire, the best monitoring computer is the one you already own! All your family members probably have 3 generations of old phones laying in a drawer, and Octo4a works wonderfully on old Android smartphones/tablets (with a USB-OTG adapter), and if you have a home server near your printer, Octoprint Docker images are a great solution as well. The only machine to be avoided is the one which is plagued by "Windows Update".

Can you build a duplication Microwave? Basically you would take a old microwave, add cameras on every side on the inside, take apart a 3d printer about the same size as the microwave, and use a raspberry pi to create a 3d model of the object you place inside and then 3d print the model. Perhaps you can wire the start button of the microwave to start as well.

Ok I'm fuggin' sold.. I'm not sure how long this channel has existed but this is truly infotainment for the makers of the world. I immediately subscribed and "hit the bell", as some might say.. I did so for reasons too numerous to even mention.. The boating references were abundant and amusing enough to warrant not only a chuckle but an occasional scratch of the head, because I was talking behind in being able to catch them all on the first take.. secondly the info about prints that are useful to us in the 3dp world were all ACTUALLY useful.. thirdly who doesn't appreciate innuendo? I could go on but nobody reads this shit anyway so why bother. Good luck with your move my new 3dp infotainment guru! I hope this correspondence isn't decades old because that would just mean that I've got lots of past episodes to binge on and I'm as upset about that as I am intrigued.. pea's to you and your associates and pea's to anyone willing to listen to my half drunken Sunday afternoon rant about what many might consider nonsense, but I consider a reason to live..Austin Texas signing out. Something interesting about octoprint. In times where a Raspberry Pi can only be bought with 3 gold bars. I used the old smartphone from my son. It's fast enough, has a good camera and can be mounted easily with an mobile phone holder to the printer. It also have a Display and touch screen. So maybe, when you plan to use Octoprint and the Raspberry Pi is to expensive, you have also a "old" smartphone laying around.

The number one mistake 3d printers make is loose desiccant around filament. NEVER EVER DUMP LOOSE DESICCANT IN WITH YOUR FILAMENT. Dust embeds in the plastic and clogs your nozzle. Treat that stuff like you are doing surgery with it. Keep it in a spotlessly clean box for both your printer feeder and storage box. Use 500G bags of desiccant and weigh them now and then. Once they hit 650g toss them in the oven to dry out. Usually 150-200F depending on the manufacturer. I have burned dozens and dozens of spools and never clogged a nozzle. My printer lives in a working fabrication shop. It is not clean.
