Olympic weightlifter tries strongman for the first time. Log clean and press, tire flips, atlas stones, and carries make for a very difficult first exposure to this tough sport.

Why do any of this useless stuff when you could just take steroids. I have been, unbeknownst to my swimmers parents, giving the 12u swim team tbol for the last 12 weeks, and not one of them lost a race at the meet last weekend. Needless to say we swept the meet because of my brilliance. You should see the physical development my athletes have made since I got hired 12 weeks ago. I took a few of them to my spot, Rocco's Tavern, after the meet, and not one of them was carded. Anyways, since the meet last Saturday, my pay was upgraded from 14.50 an hour to 19.50 an hour; I also have been given my own parking spot at the pool right at the entrance to the deck. Just yesterday I had to kick a kid off my team because his mom parked her 2001 Honda Odyssey in my spot to drop her kids off. She tried justifying this atrocity by telling me it was because she was "unaware" of this change to the parking lot. In return, I tried to kick her son out of swim lessons, but that was beyond my jurisdiction apparently.

the point you make at 10:32 about grip strength is interesting and it's something I've been thinking about recently. If you look at deadlifts, a lot of people recommend mixed grip or hook grip in favour of using straps with the argument that you train grip strength better. But, like you said, hook grip isn't training your grip strength either (at least not optimally). You are still relying on a friction grip between your thumb, fingers, and the bar. And this is essentially the same as using straps anyway and relying on the friction grip of the straps. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on this. Obviously for olympic lifting hook grip is essential, but for me personally (I don't do olympic lifting but I still like your videos) I am more than happy to use straps with my deadlifts and do farmers walks separately for grip strength.
@manikdevbhagat58
@manikdevbhagat58 5 жыл бұрын
Hook grip does train your grip. The support provided by the thumb is little when compared to straps. Straps provide way too much friction and take the work off your grip. In hook grip, it's your fingers wrapped around the thumb that keeps the thumb in place. If your grip is weak, the thumb will simply slip off the bar while lifting heavy. If you compare the three methods- Double Overhand, Hook Grip and Straps, the double overhand trains your grip the most but you can't deadlift heavy. With straps, you can deadlift the most but it doesn't train your grip. The hook grip is the sweet spot that lies somewhere in between.
