The last time Marth vs Sheik was played in Grand Finals of a major was SCL 1.4 (late 2020), where Zain and Spark where in Grand Finals However, SCL 1.4 was a single-elim tourney, so the last time Marth vs Sheik was Grand Finals of a normal, double elim tournament, was all the way back in mid 2007, at MLG Long Island 2007, which had Mew2King (Marth) vs KoreanDJ (Sheik) and KDJ won Edit: PPMD and Mew2King never played Marth Sheik in Grands of a major, Plup has only ever been in Grand Finals of a major vs Hungrybox (literally every Grands Plup was in before 2021), iBDW (Riptide), and Wizzrobe (SWT), Mew2King never played Zain or PPU or any other Marth in Grands of a major except PP (Marth dittos, Sheik Falco, and Marth Falco)

This set was a showcase of what hard work looks like. Zain wasn't goofing around all pandemic bro (neither were many others). The people who grinded for 2 years popped the F off this tournament and Zain was right there grinding too. He may have earned this win, but for him, it must be like standing at the top of a mountain and looking at a swarming horde of monsters climbing up to destroy him, all hungry. And the worst part for him is that it's not even the usual suspects anymore. That was one of the best top 8's I've ever seen and some of the craziest melee I've ever seen. Jmook is a straight up cold killer. Big props to all the players, I am witnessing art.

Blame KZbin for that, the algorithm doesn't play quite as nice with videos that don't get watched for the entire length by a lot of people. So if you have a 30min video that everyone quits at minute 10, it's not going to be suggested to viewers as often.

Him finally getting the lan win post quarantine must feel great for him since nobody can say he can only win majors online (obviously most people know this it's just there was a vocal minority of people who say he was way better online and that's why he was winning). As a Zain fan, especially last year it sucked to see him get so close but not close out events like at Summit 11 and Summit 12. He didn't beat Mango here but that doesn't take away from the win here, Jmook was playing really well today and I hope to see him make many more major top 8s. Such a stark contrast between facing Zain, #1 in the world and getting decidedly 3-0ed and facing Cody, arguably #2 in the world, and decidedly 3-0ing him. You can tell Cody lost his mental game when facing an early deficit whereas Zain had the composure to remain optimal despite slip ups. That’s what hard work and grinding hours in the lab does for you. Congrats Zain, hardest working man in competitive melee and deserves all the success he gets. I really do think Jmook has a mental block vs. Zain. Anyone who can embarrass IBDW, is definitely capable of being competitive with Zain, and yet these games are not. Zain has moments of brilliance in this set, but it’s still an even character matchup. Jmook’s punish game looked way off and he “played Zain’s game” the entire set. Jmook plays a mixup style that should be good against Zain, I just can’t understand why Jmook choked so hard, and can only attribute it to the pressure of the big stage.

i feel kinda bad for zain. his reward for grinding his way to the top of melee is getting to be the game's least exciting top player. nobody wants to see you win when every set is an underdog story for the other player. it's the same thing that armada and hbox felt during their respective eras. jmook gets second and it's super hype because of how improbable it is (i think this is the most unlikely 2nd place finish since wobbles at evo 2013), zain wins the whole thing and nobody cares because for him it's just another trophy for the collection. even the standing ovation felt like an obligation that the crowd was disappointed to be giving for his win instead of jmook's.

@tme3305
@tme3305 2 жыл бұрын
@@OurNeighborsCat yeah i was being hyperbolic. i watched this live with twitch chat, there are obviously more than zero people who want zain to win. still, the difference in crowd energies from jmook's win over ibdw in loser's finals to zain beating jmook in grands is telling. zain has a way of sucking the life out of a room when he wins. even the commentary in this set talks about how much less hype there is for a zain win compared to a jmook win.

Idk about you I was rooting for zain the whole time and the close as fuck ibdw set had me so excited. So many people were saying zain couldn't clutch it out offline and he only won online and to that I say fuck ya'll if you ever genuinely thought that.
@tme3305
@tme3305 2 жыл бұрын
@@WhoPlaysMc those people have never been right, zain took the last genesis before online was even a thing people were thinking about (people who discredit that because hbox was in grands don't remember when hbox was top 1 level lmao), as far as i'm concerned he doesn't need to prove himself any more than he already has and with how expected this win was after mango lost to fizzwiggle and hbox it seems like most people agree. any claims that zain doesn't have it offline are most likely coming from mango fans who are still riding the hype of summit 11 and with the things mango fans have said over the years to excuse their man's slip-ups i'm amazed anybody still takes them seriously.
