You completed a story which was incomplete in my brain for some 20 years. Yes, I heard about the "rulers of Oudh" in a newspaper article. But what happened after that? O never knew. Surprising that I visited Delhi in 2014 & never knew about this place. Thanks once again for completing this story. No one should be made to live such a life. I pray to the Almighty to give them moksha.

This was narrated in such a PERFECT MANNER, beech beech main hans hans ke buta haal hua esp with the witty comments in between. Loved the story. And i agree, partition left such deep psychological wounds my own two parents were extremely traumatized ppl who had very strange rules too and I remember the same very strict Ghar se baahir nahi jana rule for us too. We came to Pakistan, but came so empty handed that our parents and grandparents suffered from the trauma of severe poverty. The women in my father's family all wore gharara and they were called Lachcho Baandari by the native people of Faisalabad, then known as Lyallpur. To thus date my father completely disowns Faisalabad ppl, the accent and the mannerisms, he rejects belonging to that place as he had rooots in Delhi and used the same accent as his parents. We felt very misplaced for decades. Lahore brought comfort to him being the sister city of Delhi.

Around 5-6 years ago after finishing our school my friends and I used to try to find and visit haunted places in and around Delhi and that is when we came across Malcha Mahal. It is actually situated in the Delhi Cant area in the midst of the jungle and one cannot just navigate and reach there, you have to follow the trails and find your way on your own. We went there a couple of times and the second time we actually got lost on our route and we came across what looked like a small structure with a place for one person to sit inside , that was actually the place where the guards of the Malcha Mahal used to be and let me tell you as we were inching closing towards we could absolutely feel the eeriness of the place. It was a very weird feeling and felt like it was trying to convey to not move ahead. Anyway one of my friends always had this problem of having a bad tummy in such serious situations and let me tell you he ended up taking a dump over there in that structure xD!! After that we just ran off because we still had to find a way to get out of that jungle but never knew this piece of history about the place, easily a web series can be made out of it, truly fascinating.

Very nice story and story telling but what’s most intriguing is that although she lied and stayed in railway station for 9 years she was asked for asylum from India and was on visa. None of the government officials cross validated her claim and send her back to Pakistan. How is that possible no investigation was done? It shows the loophole of then system.
@politicalbakwaas58723 ай бұрын

Amazing story . What u liked about it is how you humanized partition for us thru this story. I do find Sakina’s death a little mysterious. She was young, how did she just die? And why did her brother reach out to Ellen right after her death! Strange
@banksy2870Ай бұрын
Actually, this story was covered in the Times of India in the 1990s and also sometime in the 2000s. Ellen Barry met him a few times. It is not just the turmoil of partition that caused her to go mad but, also the electrical shocks and other treatments meted out to her during her stay in the mental hospital. What amazes me is that her children went along with it all and chose to live in the dilapidated building which had not door or window frames thus preventing the occupants from locking themselves in. Moreover, the fact that the children did not even interact with the other local people is just amazing. They just subjected themselves to torture by living like that.

Bhai - this is a very well-produced video - well-written and tightly edited. It had me hooked from start to finish. One reason the family was allowed to stay at the railway station and then later at Malcha Mahal may have been surveillance. Given that this family had sought asylum from Pakistan and advocated for Kashmiri independence, the authorities likely would have found it convenient to keep them sequestered in a single location that was easily monitored. Both locations served that purpose. It may even have been an undisclosed condition on the family that it would refrain from interacting with Indian citizens to prevent any information leaks. Just a theory.

She was just a wife of Lucknow University Registrar/Employee (who was a genuine person).
