Your puppy Inertia is doing very well. My puppy Chicky has been getting some free bits of time outside. Because my 65 year old hips and legs often give me a lot of trouble; when I toss a ball it sometimes goes further than her leash allows I drop my end and tell her to get her toy. Only once did I have to go get her. She was distracted by a bug. 😆 she still gets too excited by my landlord and his wife who is also my caregiver. She is mama number 2. We disagree on training. She thinks puppies should be allowed to be free range puppies. And train them when they are older. I tell her by then it's too late. Since my little girl is part Border Collie and part Australia Kelpie I am really glad your pup is Border Collie. Because of my age my friends were worried about keeping up with her. As I mentioned I can sit and toss the ball from my chair. So any Senior Citizens get a dog you love because they don't care if your standing or sitting. They just want to play. The majority of Chicks toys are balls of all types hard soft. Her favorite types are sqeekers that bounce good. She loves to jump for them. Sorry for such a long post. Love your videos. Ms Michal 🙃☕💖

It's so funny how my 3/4 Border/Aussie pup, Eevie, has similar face expressions to Inertia! Even how she reacts to things look almost the same. I keep thinking to myself, "That is so her!" Makes it easier to understand what's going on with raising Eevie when I see it clearly with you and Inertia. I second having a banner on the vid (at a consistent part of the video (so I know where to look--sometimes I miss it and have to keep rewinding back and forth to find it) and thumbnail. It'd make it easier to follow along and refer back to past videos where I need reinforcement on techniques. Great series!! We've been following since you started the series and the months in preparation for Eevie made it easier. It made me feel not so horrible or a failure if she wasn't picking up on things. Great reminders too to be prepared for impromptu training sessions, to be patient, and sometimes just let her be a happy pup. Thanks Zak, Bree, and Inertia!

I never used pads during my Berner pup’s potty training and she’s only had a few accidents, but I did take her out often so that could have helped a lot. I began my training at 2months, she’s now 3months and so far she is 98% house trained, 100% crate trained (up to 4hours), backyard patio and potty area trained (up to 3 1/2hours), car ride trained (4 1/2hours), stationary car trained (20 mins), has food manners (waits for approval to eat, “leave it” - “ok, go”), has absolutely zero food aggression, socialized around kids and adults but can be aloof toward some adults, knows commands like sit, stay, paw, what do you do with my hand (reminder not to bite), tug of war, fetch/go get it, and NO! Training her was easy! I primarily rewarded her with praises and belly rubs only using treats at the most distracting environments. Did I just get super lucky or is this pretty normal?

I have been watching many of Zak's training videos. In the beginning, I found his methods encouraging and helpful. Now I'm seeing that his training is more like human, "progressive" psychology, being transferred on animal instinctual behaviors. He has commented, "...would you allow your child to do thus and such...? I don't think he has children? His training methods may be popular, but the effectiveness seems to be lagging or hit and miss (what we see at any point may not always be the full experience, or edited). He had 3 weeks to train Kona. His schedule was 24/7, and I'm sure he was getting paid good, on top of vids and advertising, etc. Letting many of the negative behaviors continue on, in the guise that Kona would 'eventually' get it. That defers your responsibility as the teacher, especially with biting. The whole psychology of letting Kona decide when he's ready, is promoted by you, the trainer. You wouldn't want your kid to think playing with matches, or run out in the street, is ever something for them to decide. Yes, there are as many factors in dealing with each dog and situation. Zak's own dog, Inertia, is a highly intelligent dog, who plays Zak like a fiddle. And those treats! Way overkill. Not sure of his sponsors either. Seem high end. My take away: Zak's training methods may be possible, but in all probability, not as effective as he portrays...in my opinion.
@princesshrzria3 жыл бұрын
I agree. His videos are helpful and encouraging but some aren't that effective. As I watch this series (just started yesterday and currently binge watching it), I notice that he lets Inertia take control of him. He's right though that training pups depends on their moods but most of the time in these videos, Inertia's the boss. He's also had a lot of missed opportunities in training because he doesn't immediately corrects them. He lets Inertia do the action then corrects it like 5 or so seconds later. I have a Lab who's 18 weeks old and learns extremely fast. He learns in 1 second so my timing and reaction should be really quick too to avoid recurring behaviour. It's a struggle for me as well because I'm a first-time dog owner and my timing isn't that good so I'm learning alongside my pup.
@anna-wt2tz2 жыл бұрын
I do agree, but two things can be true at once. I won't address everything, but as far as his methods not working, not every method will work for every dog. I watch so many different trainers and methods, and what I've learned is that if one method doesn't work there is always another. Sometimes the same method doesn't work on every single dog. The thing about zac is he refuses to use any kind of physical corrections, so he trades that with dealing with unwanted behaviors until they resolve. whether that be on their own, or by him using a different positive training style. For example, his teething videos didn't help me with my puppy (the whole give them a teething toy when they are teething on something you don't want them to did help tho), instead I very firmly and quickly screached. A technique I got from Victoria Stillwell. resolved the problem for me 🤷🏽♀️ This is just one of many examples. Zaks methods take A LOT, I mean ALOT of patience. And if you don't have that and time they won't work for you, and like I said different methods work for different dogs.

I'm so glad you're going to cover resource guarding in the next one! I just rescued a puppy that is about 16-17 weeks old, and she has resource guarding issues. We have been calmly petting her while she eats to get her used to being touched. She was a stray, so she needs a little extra TLC with training and trusting us. I do have a question..she has oral papillomas, and can not be socialized with other dogs her age until they go away. Is there anything I can do to socialize her while she is in quarantine? The vet said it might take up to 5 months before she is no longer contagious. Thanks!

I think both critics and fans should keep in mind that Zak is one trainer with a specific approach--as well as a slightly different lifestyle than the average pet owner, service dog handler, or even dog sport trainer... we viewers are always free to reject some of his advice without throwing out the pot; of course, if you are truly ethically opposed, and you think Zak is abusing his dog, then the most damage you can do is to report his videos and refuse to watch them, not throw shade in his comments section. The only abuse I see here is Indie's face at being praised and filmed while peeing... not at all dignified for a mature lady ; )
@cake11595 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about not throwing out the pot. I've actually taken a lot of info and techniques from his videos but I think it's also fair to criticize the lack of flexibility in his approach and his unwillingness to be more assertive. Imagine someone with this dog that doesn't have the ability to train it 8 hours a day trying to use these techniques without telling the dog no ever. It would be a disaster. So I think it's okay to let those people know there's other very much humane techniques you can include with a track record of success
@jtbrooks13265 жыл бұрын
@@cake1159 I agree completely that people should feel free to critique his methods and describe other techniques / have those discussions in the comments. It seems that each installment of the series attracts more and more hostility though, and I hate to think that viewers will chalk up all of his perceived failures to why positive training doesn't work and dismiss anything he says--which some seem to be doing.
@cake11595 жыл бұрын
@@jtbrooks1326 yeah that's fair. I've had to check a bit of my own negativity tbh. I guess it can be so polarizing because one side seems to take a holier than though side and demonize the other side which makes them defensive in return and it seems there's little room for middle ground online these days (which is where I would put myself) 🤷♂️ but you're right, hateful comments no matter your position on training are not useful and not productive.

@MaddieYchama5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, we began introducing our 2-3 month Aussie to other puppies, and he was very aggressive with the first puppy. She reacted negatively to him and he learned to hold back a little. With the other dogs he still nips a lot and has a lot of "defensive biting" which gets worse as they get more excited w/ eachother (even when the other dog overpowers him he still tries to get over them and bites them) so it's hard to teach him that it's not okay to be so rough with other dogs.

Kind of makes me feel better to see you having to work so hard too. lol I'm a 'trainer in training' and my own dog is. . .so much of a challenge. Unhhh. (I mean, she's literally had me in tears so many times since she came. sigh) She is now three years old and we just got a new kitten. We already have one older cat and she's great with him (little thoughtless at times. . .stepping on his tail by accident, etc...but all in all, really good) but the new kitten...you'd think it was a new beast entirely. She gets SO excited that I can barely control her (she's 80lbs, smaller in size, but built like a little tank!), and by the time I get her to calm down, the kitten has disappeared. It's making the over-all 'introduction' and getting them used to each other SO darned HARD (not to mention stressful). We also have some trouble with this 'explosive' excitement with other (strange dogs) DESPITE all the calm-training we do. Some dogs just seem way more challenging than others. Inertia is adorable. She looks like such a happy pup.

Is it possible for you to tell me some things that are pretty hard to deal with so I can be prepared If you can answer these questions I would very thankful Thanks
@leaflover96255 жыл бұрын
Hi Sushi. Aussies are wonderful dogs. Yes, they are high energy, not as much as Border Collies but they need a lot of exercise. Don’t get an Aussie puppy unless you like to walk and play outside a lot. Aussies will bark but not too much. Our dog stops barking when we tell her to be quiet. Aussie will play with kids and they will stay near them outside. You will need to train your puppy just like Zack does in these videos. Watch him and do the best you can. Just remember that no dog will be happy if you leave them alone a lot. So don’t get a puppy if you’re really busy and don’t have time to devote to them. One more thing that takes time is grooming an Aussie. They have thick coats and need regular brushing.

I just adopted a straight dog. He is a LARGE DOG,. He is probably a year old and doesnt have any training. I have 2 cats . How can I train him to be an inside dog, not to pull on his leash and to get along with my cats. Do you think can be possible?..
