Zak, you probably know that some in your community do not agree with your techniques. You all have your own way to train dogs and may or may not work for your dog. But I dont see why they say this about you. Keep up the good work.

My parents adopted a dog from the shelter, she’s was 50lbs, now she’s about 70lbs. They teach basic things but feels like there’s no need for other training, one day they have guest come over and she’s trying to come to them, she’s super friendly, super enthusiastic and highly energetic and doesn’t listen to my mom who’s been holding her for dear life my mom ended up got slammed by body on the leftover knee and it’s takes her 2-3 days for her to heals. My parents did trying to get dog training before but the one that close to their house its cost $5,000 for a large dog that’s over 2-3 years old.

I hope that you do explain that this is a very easy dog for a mal gsd mix. Otherwise, you’re doing more harm than good. No management/safety in place either outdoors or indoors. Is that because you won’t attach a long line to the collar on camera?

It’s because I read the dog’s body language and felt comfortable in this particular situation. I have other videos and even series where I have not integrated the dogs because it was not appropriate to do so. Everything is case by case.

lol the person you are mentioning with the PhD is not even related to animal behavior. I take my cues from the scientific community as a whole. There are no authorities in science, only evidence.

I tried introducing my two small dogs to a shepherd mix we wanted to adopt. We introduced the bigger dog first and she seemed fearful but curious at the same time. However, when we brought out our smallest dog, he tried lunging at the shepherd so we separated them. After a while we let them see each other again but Bella (our bigger dog) tends to follow Bingo's (our smallest dog) example and wouldn't smell the other dog again. We returned the dog to the shelter and are slowly introducing other people's dogs. Bella is now chasing dogs and doing play bows. She is definitely improving.

I like your positive energy. I do have a question. Especially in the beginning when you are hunched over and staring at that dog right in the face isn’t that a little bit threatening to a dog that doesn’t know you? In my experience that’s a good way to get bitten in the face. Thoughts?
@Austinlorentzan54992 күн бұрын
Your training methods are ridiculous and there are countless examples of these methods I and plenty of other people have tried using only for them to realise there dogs are now fearful and agressive. Obedience is more important than commands, trying to train a fearful dog with treats will not work as there food drive shuts down the second they are in a fearful state. I saw a comment on a dog daddy video saying that you recommended someone to euthanaise there dog after they followed your "Scientifically correct training methods" while that could easily be a lie you're spreading misinformation. If you see this comment and respond to it (Highly unlikely) then please prove my point wrong. the best way to communicate to a dog is through black and white punishment and reward, If you think about it the native mother will correct her puppies if they are misbehaving that is how these dogs naturally communicate to one another. So using a bit of leash pressure is inhumane? When the mother will sometimes bite her puppies? Another thing you do wrong is using the crate as a positive when it should be used as a neutral boundary, not positive, not negative just simply a boundary. And your main point is that using force on a fearful dog just makes the issue worse? If that was true why are there so many balanced trainers that get dogs to stop being aggressive through correcting them and communicating to them that you are in charge and they will come to you if they are fearful. also the amount of time it takes you to train these dogs is ridiculous , if it takes you 2 years to train your dog decent recall that means you arent a good trainer at all. You make the excuse that training takes time but for most people it should take 2 years max to have a fully trained dog let alone a dog trainer who has years of experience. Maybe if you simply said "My methods arent the best but i train my dogs as best as i can with positive only training as i believe it is the only humane way to train dogs" then people wouldnt be as angry with you, but you instead try to attack trainers like dog daddy and make yourself look a complete idiot in the process. This isnt an insult this is advice, if you think im lying thats totally ok but atleast understand different people train dogs in different ways

DD is abusive and needs to be stopped. End of. No animal should be subjected to such cruelty. There is a difference between negative reinforcement and punishment. DD uses punishment which is dangerous and harmful to the animal. Zack is giving facts that can be verified if you choose to research. There are PLENTY of trainers who get better results without resorting to violence.

Zak, i wish to thank you for this series as i've just got a newly adopted shelter dog & i like a series on slightly older dogs as opposed to a puppy. I'm trying to make her into a frisbee dog, however that isn't going too well, yet. She *loves* to play fetch or tug & will even chase thrown frisbees, but she doesn't want to grab them. Not if i use the slide over the floor method, the hover method or the rolling method. She even flatly refuses to bite & pull if i hold it, which is weird because she even plays tug with toys that aren't meant for that like chew bones... (she catches those out of the air like a pro!)

I would've first gone on a parallel walk with them to get some neutrality going, and not instant play.. Inertia was clearly a bit too much for Wallace, especially inside. And Wallace was too much for Veronica! But glad it all worked out! Just one extra step for anyone who isn't that well versed in dog body language. This could've escalated easily, in inexperienced hands! 😊
@Nefrolovich2 күн бұрын
Yes, all three are clearly nice dogs but there’s a bit in the inside video where Wallace backs up to Zak, like ‘Help! She’s insane!’ where I probably would have stopped Inertia to give Wallace a bit of breathing space. I also always feel that where space is more constricted it puts extra pressure on the dogs - so the gate they were using seems in the narrow bit of the yard - if it was in a more open section the dogs would probably find it a bit easier (not sure if other people agree?)

While what I'm going to say doesn't really have anything to do with this video specifically, I wanted to stress the importance of introducing your large dog to small dogs and vice versa. I've had large (very large) dogs and now I've got small dogs (got old). It's important that the larger dogs know how to treat smaller dogs and not get too rambunctious for them. It's also important for small dogs to recognize that those huge hairy things are, indeed, dogs and not necessarily going to harm them. Failure to socialize small dogs to large dogs can result in aggressive behavior (likely based on fear) on the part of the small dog toward the larger dog. I've seen situations where smaller dogs were not properly socialized to larger dogs, show aggression and actually bit a larger dog and the larger dog defended himself and either severely injured or killed the small dog. It is contingent upon you, of course, to make sure all interactions between your dog (large or small) and other dogs is safe and fun for all dogs involved. If someone isn't having fun, remove that dog from the equation. If a larger dog is simply playing too rough for a smaller dog, don't allow the play to continue. When I had Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds, I generally asked my dogs to lie down when meeting a small dog (IF the small dog was not demonstrating any body language that concerned me) and when meeting small children (I started asking this of them when a toddler was petting one of my Irish Wolfhounds and he shifted his weight and knocked the toddler down--happily the child wasn't hurt and her parents were cool about and recognized my dog simply shifted his weight; I asked the dog to lie down and the interaction continued positively--for dog and child).

Thank you for showing us the introductions. This is very helpful in understanding dog behavior. I take my small dog to dog parks and this helps read dog body language. Inertia is such a well-balanced and sweet dog. She definitely knows what she's doing. Veronika is more fearful and sassy but I also love how you respect her personality. My little dog is also very excited to interact with other dogs but does not want them to play rough or put their paws on him but he doesn't snap at other dogs; he just goes low to the ground to make them understand he doesn't want to play rough. Sometimes, I wish he were more bossy. Wallace seems a bit confused but he is learning fast. He seems to soak it all in. I am just giving my interpretation of what I am seeing, although I am not a dog trainer or an expert in dogs and nobody asked for my opinion 🙃
