Ustad ji is literally known as the God of Tabla. Tabla is an Indian Classical percussion instrument. Which is primarily played in Hindustani Classical Music (Northern part of India). You can play it solo or with other instruments. The base sound is coming from his left hand Tabla. And he is not scatting, he is speaking rhythm notes from his mouth along with playing it.

It's really a solo performance. The two instruments are just to provide a steady tune so that the changes are more easily noticed. The long stringed instrument provides a kind of drone sound and steady tempo. The harmonium is repeating the basic tune over and over.

This is a solo Tabla Performance. The string instrument is Tanpura that provides a constant drone a staple to Indian classical music. The harmonium here is playing a lehra which is akin to a rhythmic cycle, thus providing the metronome. Tabla player has to follow that metronome and within those restrictions has to create rhythmic compositions which have to finish on a Sum . What he is saying are Bol which is what he is playing . Tabla has its own language .

Hey the repeating melody comes from the harmonium which is like an accordion, it has bellows and keys. You can't see his hand playing the keys because it's hidden by the other hand playing the bellows. The instrument which is vertical and long is playing the drone of the scale (it's the tanpura).

You can speak what ever you play on Tabla that's how our ancestors made is precious and mind blowing Instrument. It's all written What ever he is playing is all written and can be speaked. All the instruments are mathematically connected with each other. As he is playing teen taal which is a 16 beats cycle So other guys is also playing on teen taal too. And that's all came from the Vedas. That's why we call it SHASTRIYA(HOLY) SANGEET.
