Song “Krishna” from Colonial Cousins. The song is in English and calls for religious harmony. I say it should be world anthem. Colonial Cousins is an Indian duo, formed by singer Hariharan and singer-composer Lesle Lewis. The style is essentially fusion, with a lot of songs opening with recognisable Hindustani or Carnatic ragas and then segueing into a more pop style. They have received numerous awards, notably the MTV Asia Viewers' Choice Award, 1996, and the US Billboard's Viewers' Award, 1996. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXvZfGOapN1jla8

I want you guys to know 2 things 1. There are "gharanas" in India. So gharanas are actually centres of Indian classical music learning where the knowledge of music is being passed down for generations. Some of the oldest gharanas date back to 15th - 16th century. And there are MANY gharanas throughout India. 2. In the middle of his perfomance, he said some things, those were "bols" or actually notes. In short he was playing what he was saying which was Tabla bols (notes)
@RaviWarrier5 жыл бұрын
For R & K's benefit: gharana (gha-raa-naa) means family or house, usually used for legendary families or households. We've had musical or artistic gharanas, royal gharanas, political gharanas [no, I don't want to start a debate :)]. Good trivia to bring out mate.

He is the one who took Tabla to a global level and recognised everywhere. He is at an unimaginable level. Tough to find adjectives. I had learnt tabla from the maestro Pandit Kumar Bose for 7 years from when I was 6 years old and then it got discontinued as I had to shift to somewhere else for my studies. But in these 7 years it feels like I couldn't even scratch the surface, which is true. Such a vast thing it is, people spend their lifetime and still don't go to a level. You can react to other Tabla maestros like Pandit Swapan Chaudhary, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and ofcourse Guruji Pandit Kumar Bose. And even the guru of my guru Pandit Kisha Maharaj. I didn't specify any link because I wouldn't be able to judge and decide which one you guys should react to first.

I have watched Zakir Hussain live in a charity concert in Bangalore back in 2006, and he was not the senior artist on the stage. The senior artist on that stage was Birju Maharaj, the Kathak dancer. And those two went on repeated jugalbandi (competition) or jam. It was mindblowing. The cameras would often zoom Zakir Hussain's fingers and Birju Maharaj's feet, and we would see them vanish into a blur for minutes at a time.
