So it’s a fan creation, but so many people use it at this point it might as well be canon: Barrowcleft. A farming district outside of Duskvol proper that produces huge amounts of food, not just for the city, but also for consumption by the Empire in general. It’s where a lot of canned food for the general population comes from (that isn’t aquatic anyways).

Honestly might start using it myself. Fills in some gaps without conflicting with much. Severos cities being the main breadbasket of the empire is what I had been running with. Playing into beginning dustbowl era of the American great planes.

I get the distinct impression that seasonings and spices would be some of the most premium culinary acquisitions, even more than in our own history. Heck, I could honestly see there being a high stakes heist against top security that will feeding the evidence to the mushrooms if your team makes the slightest error... just for your team to bring herb and spice seeds to a noble from their chief rival's personal radiant garden. Nutmeg and saffron in particular stand out given how costly both have been IRL. And I'm not just talking about the cost in gold or paper money. As for radiant plants modified into emitting nurturing spooky light... I have ideas for long term experiments to make the deadlands either less dangerous, or to concentrate the danger into more avoidable pockets.

"He who controls the spice controls..." and other dune references, but yeah spice would sky rocket in value. Up there with precious metals which also shot up in price as the means of excavation and mining have become more intensive and dangerous. When it comes to attempts at terraforming the deahtlands, there is a notable attempt with trees in the city which populate one part. (non-radiant) Trees that can grow entirely with out the aid of sunlight, entirely lethal to human beings. It's now a park in one of the districts.

i wanna do a emergent campaign with my friends where if a character dies they make a new character that was technically always apart of the crew to keep the story going to see how big they can build their underground empire or see it burn out. but i want them to start from nothing. i could imagine a score where they are trying to steal and smuggle seaweed and the ministry of preservation comes after them

I saw the fish from dredge and saw it was about food in blade in the dark and my interests peaked. Also side note I bought the digital art book off of stream for dredge and it’s a cool novelty with some nice wallpaper art but it was also a bit underwhelming.

I GM Blades in the Dark every weak. But what the player characters eat I leave to the players and to the story they want to tell. Some people realy find it repellent to eat rodents etc I found out 😅oh gosh I love this game. I just had to de-disgust it a bit for the taste of my table.

Working with a setting of my own with an arcane apocalypse, alternate forms of feeding and the evolution and mutations that come from it are my favorite fictional trope to work with. Consuming demon meat along with alchemizing their humors, bile, blood or slimy plhegm to obtain some exalting infusion to alter the body, mind and spirit. A whole campaign in Blades set for a "ectoplasmic drug operation" where a gang is organizing a new type of posession drug amidst the whealty, using the out of body absorption of a ghost as a means of intoxication. Could work for a long term camaping!

Wait... from where they import it? If the world is pretty much doomed and this is the biggest city, where would be enough production to feed the half it cant produce itself?

There are other isles that had reacted to the Cataclysm differently (essentially all of them). The Dagger Isles for example still have full jungles that have just been twisted. Akaros itself references dark forests in it's interior. Stuff grow's, but the reliability of acquiring it and whether it's safe to eat or not varies wildly. Also a good section of the city isn't reliably fed. IN short your right it can't feed itself, plenty of starving.

@@NoOne-us9os as far as I know, not at all. Dishonored was developed by Arkane and published by Bethesda, and Infinite was developed by Irrational and published by 2K. The only link I could find is that some people from Arkane worked on System shock 1 and Irrational worked on System shock 2

I wouldn't doubt that they do. Chickens and goats are just called out specifically as prized farm animals. Plenty of room for pigs to exist in the claim of farm animals in the southern part of the city. If horses are also still around I wouldn't worry about pigs not being around as well.
