This is by far my favorite island. I’ve been going there since 1978. Before there was a ship on shipwreck beach. My ex moved back in 2007, lives in the village of Agalas. Has travena, but will be retiring in October “22”. Will hope to go back next year. I could sit in a cafe in Keri just people watching. Enjoy your travels.

Planos, Zakynthos. That is what attracted me to this video. My wife and I have been to Zakynthos 8 times now and the last 7 years were spent in Planos. We are going there again twice this year. Yes. If we could we would live there permanently if we could 1. find the right property and 2. have the the courage to leave everything and everyone we know and love behind in the UK. The way we see it, when we visit Zakynthos, we are not going on holiday but going home for 2 weeks.

This is exceptionally well done. The focus on the subject (and not the presenter), the writing & editing, the commentary that is insightful. Really appreciated that this was a guide-like travelog, and not just a supercut of (as you pointed out) techno & drone shots. I've been to the Ionian 40+ times; you nailed it. One thing I will say, in respectful disagreement with your Belgian friend, is that off-season (& even wintertime) Ionian can be just as beautiful and idyllic as the summer - admittedly in very different ways. The everyone-knows-your-business element is there, and is true of most small communities, so the extra crowds in summer and focus on tourist season hospitality that they bring definitely masks it. But there's something surreally beautiful about winter grey-mist mornings where smells of burning firewood carry, and (if you're in the right place) a donkey's bray in the distance reaches your ears.

As a veteran of 20+ years of visiting the less touristy islands of Greece, I have always skipped Zakynthos because of its reputation as a wild party island, to be avoided at all costs despite its stunning beauty. Wrong! I totally share every aspect of your awe of Greece and your video has convinced me that my next visit will definitely start there. Well done on a story well crafted and beautifully produced.

It gets a bad rep only because of Laganas, but it’s one of the most complete islands in Greece. Enjoy it!

Thank you for sharing! that unexplainable feeling of a mixture of happiness, joy, and I don´t know what. That is the reason I like to travel. I wish I would travel more. I just came from Athens, Santorini, and Istanbul. And yes it's a bummer I got Covid from traveling but I don´t regret the trip at all. It was my lifelong dream to visit Santorini, and I did. I waited two years to use those airline tickets. Also, I did not expect to like Athens so much. I did not like Istanbul as much as I hoped, although is beautiful, it was a little chaotic and crowded with people. I want to return to Greece and to other greek islands to learn and discover more!

I've been in heaven. When I met sunrise on the view point at the top of navaggio beach with my wife I fel in the sky. I have never seen before and after views like that.. never It was great moment of all my life. But then, we went to Agios Nicolaos and rented speedboat, and go through sea and blue caves to beach of navaggio. It was 5 hours full of happynes. And after that, when we went in Zante city to hotel we overturned on rental car Smart... But, It was the culmination of my emotions. It was the best day of my life. And thank you Mitchell, because I saw your video before trip in zakinthos and You Ve impressed me for my trip

You left out one of the most impressive things of Zakynthos! The beaches of the bay are an important nesting site for sea turtles in the mediterranean, the Caretta Caretta. I’ve been to Zante three times: As a child with my parents, at 18 to do volunteering with the local sea turtle protection society Archelon and now returned for vacation with my boyfriend, showing him the beauty of this island. It truly felt like coming home 💚 I recommend going before the high season if possible, unfortunately reckless tourism puts a lot of pressure on the islands precious ecosystem.

I took the bus from Athens to the west coast and then a ferry to Zakynthos in 2010 and found it far from stress-inducing. On the contrary, it was relaxing - maybe not the quickest way but I definitely got to see more of the country en route.

my boyfrined and I (20 years old), are booked to stay at a hotel which is a 15 min walk outside zante town for 10 nights at the begining of may. we are looking for a decent night life (nice restaraunts, bars, shops, atmosphere) but are not bothered about going wild and staying in the likes of laganas. having said that .. I am worried we may get bored on the evenings staying in the one town for 10 nights as i'm not sure what the night life is like in zante town and wether there is enough to do for 10 nights. do you reccomend we book two different hotels for the duration of our holiday one in another part of the island? thanks for the video it was super informative!

I would say to book 5 nights there and then the remaining 5 nights in Argassi; that’s a really good town with great nightlife. Zante nightlife is limited to a few bars in St Marco Square. Of course, if you rent a quad (which you should) and you don’t mind quick drives, just stay where you are and drive to wherever whenever.

Bias totally aside, which Greek island would you recommend to visit over all of them? Considering I have done Crete already which was incredible. Am in the process of booking a trip and I am torn between all of them!!

This is a loaded question because it depends on what you like to do and what you want to experience. It’s probably always best to start in The Cyclades because it’s easy to hop around there and the feel is unmatched.
