Great tournament on Smith. I’ve lived in Birmingham for 15 years and I’ve never been fishing for spots at Smith, I’ve been on several striper trips. We go super early under the green lights with giant shad. Anyway, after watching y’all put on a clinic I want to bring my 8 yr old son fishing to catch numbers of spots. He can fish moving baits but I need to teach him to fish a shaky head and set the hook.

Two things should be abundantly clear.. 1. After the events of Smith Lake, it is evident that drama and "shady" behavior seems to be following a couple of rookies 2. You can hate on Trait all you want to, but people that are devoted to transparency and truth in a sport that has mastered the art of "swept under the rug" should be celebrated and nor attacked!! @jtrealfunny7 ай бұрын
Agree with the guest that when you make rules about getting and sharing information you are giving an advantage to the people who don't want to follow the rules. The honest ones make sure to avoid acquiring it and the dishonest ones find ways to communicate without being traced or leaving a record. Bass fishing loves its technology but from my perspective technology takes away from the challenge of finding and figuring fish out. Is at as satisfying to catch 30 lbs on your live scope as it is to catch 30 with no electronics because you were really tuned in to what was going on and how to catch them. It's a lot easier to gain expert status at a video game (FIFA, Madden, Call of Duty) than it is to gain that status in the real world activities the game is representing. If I can watch how fish respond to my lure in real time I'll be able to find lures that are working a lot quicker. Great discussion. If people want to exchange information secretly there are a lot more sophisticated ways than calling the St. Lawrence the Niagra River (See spy craft, coded messages and kites in prison) so how grey and easy this example is speaks to the wide playing field for people who want to push it. Golf is a good example but golf has rules and etiquette deeply engrained in its culture. They might use speakers to pipe in birdsong at the masters but nobody is going to be coughing on someone's backswing. Impressive guest. It's a nice window into the hustle of pro bass fishing.
@b.s.fishing59027 ай бұрын
really good interview and I agree with what Kyle is saying here. if the rules aren't written well enough that it is 100% clear what is and isn't legal then that's where the issue lies. When you leave anything up the interpretation (spirit of the law vs actual letter of the law) you are begging for trouble. I have worked with legal docs for over a decade and we have had 5 different parties interpret the same paragraph 5 different ways because it wasn't written properly.

@Justin_Simpson7 ай бұрын
If there’s so many rule issues in B.A.S.S then the anglers should petition for bass to hold a winter summit between Thanksgiving and Christmas for like 3 days where the anglers come together and bring their concerns and suggestions for rule changes and present it to B.A.S.S and try and come together for so form of unity. B.A.S.S need to conduct it like a meeting of the minds and mend some of the wounds the rules/the grey areas have created. And maybe they’ll eliminate some of the bad eggs from the elites or get everyone on the same page.

On the coverage deal, you’d think Bassmaster could somehow work coverage in by using some of those anglers who pay personal camera guys/crews like Ben Milliken and Lee Livesay and allow them to take their personal camera guys as videographers for Bassmaster coverage. Let the anglers take the footage for their own personal KZbin channels but also use the footage in live Bassmaster coverage. Not only does this benefit sponsors and Bassmaster, but it also would encourage anglers to begin their own KZbin channels enabling them to make money on their own productions.

Kyle was a great class interview! One take I have is if you want the sport to be more legitimized, FFS is not helping! I personally don't know how you can actually call it a sport. I've been watching Bassmasters for about 15 years and it's become unwatchable. Watching a four box of the top ten on Live this past Sunday, all with their heads staring down at a screen (not kidding) was ridiculous. I turned it off as fast as I turned it on. Technology isn't always bad, but FFS is on another scale. IMO it's ruining tournament fishing.

Ed Loughran said it best in his interview, BASS should just pay him as a consultant. Regulations are up to interpretation and the enforcers are the ones who interpret it. There are rules based regulations which are rigid and then there are principle based regulations allowing flexibility. There are pros and cons with each. My background is in accounting and law, in the United States we see more rule based regulations because our lawyers are so damn good at arguing. Internationally there are more principle based regulations. When US regulators write legislation, they do consider the intent of the rule and interpreters should also, but then should regulation stand the test of time or should it be continuously amended? If you want principle based regulations then there is flexibility in both what is allowed and not allowed. The enforcers should issue their interpretation and what they state. There is a place for both types of regulations and the leagues should make that clear from the beginning. Anyone who operates in the grey zone is fine so long as they can live with themselves and their reputation. Reputation like KP said stays with you.

The ultimate responsibility is on BASS to regulate and govern the sport. They either need to do a better job writing the rules to eliminate the grey areas or start handing out more harsh punishments for breaking the rules. Polygraphs need to be enforced and done for all winners and top 10 anglers and conducted but outside legitimate sources.

Hear me out on this POV/GO pro in every boat (my buddies and I have talked about this for a few years now). The upfront cost would be a lot however recovery would be easy for the org. Sell packages to the viewers, I know I would pay this vs having to have FS1 or whatever. Every angler not only has 1-2 hard wired go pros but also live internet feed in their boat (via hotspot or starlink) and then a hosted webpage which I could pay either as a whole or per angler. This helps with your arguments of selling yourselves too right? Make the interface interactive to alert you of a big catch or movement on the unofficial weights and put a delay on the feed so I can get over on the alert to the angler that made the catch. Give me good commentators on this feed too and make me want to pay a premium for this on all events. If you can find a way to allow me to pay more to access their FFS feed I would hands down do that too.

There’s just no way. Even “ competitive advantage “ can differ in opinion. It’s gotta be a black and white, plain and simple rule, in order for it to be enforced.
