This duel had a neat spin on the possessed friend idea. Atticus is using the darkness again because he thinks it's consumed Zane, but it turns out he's fine and uses his own raw strength to free Atticus again. Makes me wish they did more with their dynamic, especially in season 4.

I love that Zane uses the full effect of power wall just for kicks and to show how much he doesn’t care about his deck. Dude doesn’t need to throw out so many cards….and yet he does. Shows just how far gone he is at this point in the story

As cool as those Cyberdark monsters are, their archetype is something that I have some points of criticism about. They’re supposed to be the Yin to Cyber Dragon’s Yang, but instead of targeting them (or machine-type monsters in general), they focus on dragon-types. It really messes with the connection between them.

Since Zane lost to Aster on the pro duelling scene 1) He went on a losing streak 2) A dodgy manager got him into underground duels with shock collars where every life point lost caused an electric shock 3) Zane fully snapped during a duel with Mad Dog and he became dark and sadistic for a while 4) He defeated his former master in Chancellor Shepard to get the Underground/Cyber Dark deck 5) Shepard got Atticus to duel Zane , thinking that as somebody who once fell to Darkness , he could free him . Turns out this was Zane on his own and wasn’t consumed by Darkness . 5) Syrus after gaining the necessary confidence tried to help his brother but he lost in a duel with shock collars Now it falls off …. 6) Zane gives his GENEX medallion to Blair and we don’t see him until the Alternate Dimension arc where he duels Aster to power the portal between dimensions Never explained why he became good again 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Though Gx was pretty much left intact, Zane, which I'll call Kaiser from now on, mellowed down a bit, yet aspired to achieve his greatest victory before impending death. It was suspected that the shock collars strained his heartbeat and that further stress would basically cause a heart attack - which inevitably happened, because have went all out against Yubel. Kaiser was supposed to die after this final duel in the Dark World and even though his motives are a bit wonky, 4Kids pretty much did a good job otherwise. Cue season 4, where Kaiser is suddenly alive and... somewhat well. He's basically bedridden and supposed to cut down on the drugs- I mean dueling, but some jackass from a rivaling dojo didn't get the memo and insists on a duel for glory. Kaiser accepts and unsurprisingly collapses due to the stress once more. He urges Syrus, Sho in the original version, to rematch this clown in his name with his cards, which Sho reluctantly accepts - He's not solely relying on the Cyber Dark deck though, but rather a Speedroid Underground hybrid. For some reason Sho experiences the same strains with Kaiser's cards though and realizes that not the shock collars fucked up his pulse, but rather the Cyber Dark card, which feasted on his dueling spirit. That is also why he subconsciously strived for his peak performance and performing below that caused him to collapse, he's literally beyond that level now. Sho on the other hand has yet to realize his true potential. The Cyber Dark cards give him a good headstart though, by giving that dojo rival jerk a well-earned run for his money. Both Marufuji brothers are happy with themselves, let alone each other, with Kaiser wanting to build a new deck for his future, as his old deck is both in his past and Sho's future. Fin

Well, he actually did need a boost a couple times, his only option was Power Bond, and that always basically doubles the monster original ATK, it's not like he can get the exact amount of extra points he needs. However, he didn't need to ditch so many cards for his Cyberdark Dragon during this duel and the other one with Syrus, though if he had not sent that exact amount of cards, he wouldn't have drawn the right card for his victory combos.
