PHILADELPHIA, USA - Welcome to Philadelphia, better known locally as Philly! Philly is known for many things and it’s an American food paradise. Today, we’re going on an ultimate Philadelphia food tour - we’ll be eating everything from Italian hoagies to cheese steaks to tomato pizzas - and hanging out with the amazing ‪@JLJupiterTV‬ . Let’s start eating!
Ricci's Hoagies (goo.gl/maps/ca...) - Old Fashioned Italian - $10.50 - Ricci's Hoagies has been serving hoagies, the Philadelphia name for a sub sandwich, since 1920. One of the things that immediately stands out is how they slice your meat directly onto your sandwich. The meat never gets crusty and that makes a huge difference. One of the best deli sandwiches I’ve ever had.
Cacia's Bakery (goo.gl/maps/ij...) - Another iconic food that Philadelphia is known for is tomato pie pizzas. The tomato sauce is known as gravy, and at Cacia's Bakery the gravy is made by hand, loaded with parmesan cheese, and baked onto a pizza base. The result is refreshing and focused on the amazing tomato sauce. They also have pizzas with cheese which are also delicious.
John's Roast Pork (goo.gl/maps/R5...) - Roast pork - $10.75, Cheese Steak - $12.00 - Next JL and I went to John's Roast Pork, one of the Philly food legends, known for both roast pork sandwiches and Philly cheese steak. We got one of each. The pork sandwich was incredible, so juicy and peppery. And the cheese steak, was without a doubt one of the best cheese steaks I ate in Philadelphia (and we went on a full cheese steak tour, another video). Both absolutely sensational sandwiches in Philadelphia!
Sister Muhammad's Kitchen (goo.gl/maps/Eb...) - Fish Hoagie - $10.50 - Next up on this ultimate food tour in Philadelphia we headed to Sister Muhammad's Kitchen to try their fish hoagies. They marinate the fish, batter it and deep fry it, and you’re guaranteed freshly fried fish in anything you order. We had their amazing fried fish hoagie, plus a Muslim fish hoagie which included a few extra ingredients and sauces, and finally, fried fish fried rice. Another amazing spot in Philly.
John's Water Ice (goo.gl/maps/Bj...) - Lemon water ice - $2.00 - Finally to finish this food tour we stopped in South Philly for a legendary water ice. Very refreshing on a summer afternoon.
What an amazing day in Philadelphia - cool people and delicious food. And awesome to hang out with ‪@JLJupiterTV‬ !

Seeing this gentleman interact with Mark in an excited fan way & calling Mark his “boy” really touched me. It’s beautiful when people from different cultures, age groups, walks of life etc. can connect & show each other love. Also, as a BTS ARMY I can only imagine running into one of them on the street 😆. Too bad the Western oligarchy (and NATO) went and caused an artificial food shortage. $6-8 dozen eggs are due to corporations like Kroger or Walmart cutting purchases of non free range grain fed eggs (to cut storage costs) not because of the "flu". Hence the "cheap" eggs cost as much as the free range pasture raised eggs which have not had their supply cut - Free range organic Farmer and retired OTR Trucker P.S. The 2020-21 "Trucker shortage" never existed. That was to conceal the fact that Walmart would not outsource their Chinese freight (85% of their products including meat and eggs are Chinese) to owner operators. It was a government/corporate caused throughput issue not a shortage of any kind.

Mark, good job covering Philadelphia. It's crazy seeing you on my street around the same time I was living there. Next time the only thing to catch up on would be a sausage sandwich at Rocco's which is in the South Philly Home Depot. That's it for the tried and true, but South Philly has lots of classic Italian restaurants, lots of Mexican food too (South Philly Barbacoa being the most prominent institution that is a must visit), Irish bars in Fishtown that serve famous Italian food, then there's the diverse food scene of the northeast which has lots of Indian and Georgian as well as other post-Soviet cuisines.

I was raised in South Philly until Mom moved to Germantown and Mt.Airy. I live in the West Coast these last few years and when I make lasagna, hoagies, strombolis, they all ask taught me I say my rea Italian mothers , Greek Mothers, German mothers, and I'm a African American girl. Growing up Philly I had many mothers that took the time to invest in us kids walking by in the street. The village of Philly raised me and thats why i cam cook even Ox tails stew that make you slap some one. It is a life I will never forget and a child hood i will always honor. The children are missing what the elders taught us.

I live on Maui, we use to have this sandwich shop called Philadelphia Lou's in the old Kahului Shopping Center. Man! They made some of the best Philly's hoagie sandwiches during the 80's its one of my favorite hangouts. Its not there anymore when Lou move back to Philadelphia but I had fond memories of Philadelphia Lou's.

It’s great because if I go down and don’t get the same amount of ingredients, I can’t complain and I can’t blame Mark for the “lack of ingredients”. Appreciate the honesty and love from the people!!

Hey Rhubur, I did that many times. Its a Telco Cross-Box and in Brooklyn I guess you could call it a Street-Table. Ate on them many times. Brooklyn and Philly are so much alike. I have gone to Jim's many years ago and in Marks other Philly Cheese-Steak Video, there it was. Yea, I stood in line and ordered 4 extra to bring home. Over the Top they were. So nice to see they are still cranking them out. Lots of Imitation CheeseSteaks and Pizza here in Fl., but it just can't compete with the real deal. Everyone says it's the water. Might be since the bread is such a big part of it. Damn I miss that food. Peace Bro.

It’s a Philly thang! “hoagie, submarine sandwich containing Italian meats, cheeses, and other fillings and condiments. The name likely comes from the Philadelphia area where, during World War I, Italian immigrants who worked at the Hog Island shipyard began making sandwiches; they were originally called “hoggies” before the name hoagie took hold. Hoagies are similar to the sandwiches known as subs, heroes, and grinders that are common elsewhere around the northeastern United States. “ Referenced from Britannica Encyclopedia

I’m from Philly in this video made me so proud I didn’t take them to the ridiculously touristy places. I’ve never eaten a cheesesteak from John’s Roast Pork but I’ve heard good things. I’m a chicken cheesesteak girl myself (because I don’t eat beef anymore) and the base toppings for a cheesesteak is SPK (saltpepperketchup), mayonnaise, fried onions, American cheese and SPK is all one word. I know that there are some deviations by some locals but this is the authentic base of a cheesesteak from a real Philadelphian!

Love that the went off the beaten path. A few notes as a lifelong Philadelphia... I LOVE MAYO on certain types of hoagies - Roast Beef, Turkey, Ham, Chicken Salad (obviously)....but you NEVER get an Italian - especially a traditional one - with mayo on it. Only oil and vinegar. Eating anywhere you can is definitely Philadelphia. On top of public trash cans...yup. The roast pork sandwich is definitely pure Philadelphia. John's and Dinic's are two of the best. 100 or more local pizza shops, hoagie shops, etc. make great cheesesteaks. As many people know - Pat's and Geno's are tourist traps. Wish they had tasted some soft pretzels, taylor pork roll, scrapple, and a few other local things. Definitely need to point out that water ice is definitely Philly - even the chains like Rita's are fabulous on a warm day.
