Kubo about to flex his character design muscles all over this series. Also, this series foreshadows about as much as Attack on Titan. And about as subtly, too. Sometimes a word, a minor action, or a look is foreshadowing something you won't see resolved for hundreds of chapters/episodes.

3:50 Soul Reapers seem to be able to phase through certain physical objects? We see that in the first episode when Rukia phases through Ichigo's wall. This is never done again by anyone, however, so not only is Ichigo's assumption that it maybe would phase through him (I assume) sounds weird, it is also likely wrong. So I dunno. Maybe he assumes it won't be sharp enough, since Soul Reapers seem to be able to sustain more damage than regular humans?...

I think they might end up explaining it later but I can't remember. But if you want to know more about zanpaktous,... Zanpakutos are the extention of one's soul. Normally soul reapers obtain an asauchi, a blank zanpakuto, during training. They then train with their sword, eat with it, sleep with it, basically everything, and over time their soul will imprint onto it and create their own unique zanpakutos.
