Zangief Might Really Be The Best Character

After seeing Kobayan do so well with the character, it's starting to make sense why Punk, Gachikun and so many other pro players have the grappler as top tier and maybe the best in the game! I've also been wanting to play him more too since he's so fun, so let's head into ranked and get better with the supposed best character in SF6.

He doesn’t use it well. He has a terrible drive rush and gauge usage and burns it for most of his combos. The only difference now is he’s able to burn yours as quickly as he burns his own.

I watched Topanga the whole thing I challenge you to find the match where TWO wrong guesses and only two gave koba the win also given the drive rush extensions and super damage every character can win with a couple right guesses if played absolutely optimal your problem is they are getting a bunch of damage off one move input and the pressure that exerts also his combos were just like everyone else's drive rush extensions into super the real problem is the tech of wake up spd ending on up button press giving him a option that beats three offensive options in one it's old tech actually but might need to be fixed however other characters and do it too so idk what they'll decide on it but basically meaty is the only way to beat it id suggest watching vesper arcade video on it

I think people underestimate how good players like Kobayan really are. Instead of praising the player, people just cry and blame the character. Unfortunately, grapplers are doomed to be low tier in every game because players will complain instead of learning and adapting to their opponent Edit: Damn, people really got salty with this comment lmao. Just to clarify, Zangief IS very strong this patch, his 50/50 game is more dangerous thanks to his drive gauge damage, but it does not take away the fact thay he takes a big risk every time he tries to SPD. Btw, I haven't seen any player dominating at EVO with this "broken" character. You just can't tolerate a grappler being strong, but I guess it's fine having your main or the same characters in top 5 in every game.

Why can't it be both? I don't know whether Gief is Top 1 - but you have to be crazy to think he's not one of the scariest characters in this version of SF6. His ability to generate drive gauge for himself while stripping away his opponents' drive gauge with his normals is really good - to a point where opponents have trouble initiating offense vs Gief without risking burnout. Kobayan/Itazan/Snake Eyez deserve their due, but I don't think it's just pros "crying and blaming" grapplers - Gief's strengths play really well in this patch.

However, we cannot deny that players have complained more about Zangief than other characters that could also be considered top tier such as Rashid, Akuma, Guile, etc. (Or at least that's most of the things I've read about this patch). Grapplers always had zoner characters as bad matchups, in this game zoning as a whole is non-existent or at the least toned down in respect to the gameplay style. The days of 7-3 matchups are gone for gief it seems and I'm not that that unhappy with it even though I don't use him. SF6 might be his time to shine and I'm all for it as long as its not too over the top.

Gief is strong for sure, I notice a big difference in the matchup as a JP main but I like that he's a viable character against all matchups. It's still a volatile matchup for him. And I don't want to hear about any nerfs to Gief before I see actual adjustments to Bison, idc that he lacks certain tools the tools he has are absolutely way too strong. And the fact that all the meta chasers habe moved from JP to Bison and Akuma is enough evidence imo.

Very very dangerous character. 3 to 4 spinning pile drivers and uour dead. He can combo into them. Combo into his level 3 to 5 critical art which will take over half your life. Some of his moves go through fireballs amd he has the most armour on the game.They buffed the crap out of him.

Gief rant incoming so apologies: Gief is very strong, but not close to top 5. He’s a lower A tier grappler man that could probably use some adjustments in his drive gauge damage and gain ever so slightly, but is in a good spot and does not deserve nerfs. His first main issue is his supers are seriously lacking. Level one is useless outside of fringe combos and hard reads, requiring very good reaction time to utilize it. Both level 1 and 2 are not comboable off of lights, you have to spend drive to combo into them off of lights, something few other characters experience. He can’t combo into level 3 of off juggles and he can only combo into level 1 off of juggles, with level 2 being his only decent combo tool. Level 1 is not a reversal, and level 2 is so slow you can do a meaty 6 frame medium and be safe from it. He can’t combo into lariat off of lights unless he is point blank or spends EX and has no way to punish -4 moves as his CL kick isn’t special cancelable and usually can’t reach when gatlinged into CLP into lariat. This makes his defense especially poor outside of Jump cancel SPD which can be hard to pull off and loses to strikes anyway. He struggles to punish moves due to lack of fast long reaching mediums like a cmk and his best move to whiff punish in neutral is a 7 frame light that requires 3 bars of drive for no damage and light scaling. Lariat is still incredibly spotty as an anti air unless you spend EX. His pressure and drive gauge damage/gain gives him close to best in class offense at the expense of many limitations in his combos and defense. Gief might need some adjustments as Grapplers can be unfun to play against when too strong and he is definitely teetering on that line but he is no where close to top 1 and not deserving of the nerfs I know are coming because of Japan.

Snake downplays everything and isn't really a tournament player anymore. Kobayan and Itabashi probably have said something, but they haven't been translated. As Gief main, I think he's really good. Brain dead Luke and Ken players complaining about jump cancel SPDs like it is as easy as their scrubby flowchart combos.😂 They forget so fast they scrubbed their way through in S1 just pressing cr mp / cr mk until it hits and mashing like dogs.
