It will be a more accurate description to call it a US-China Conflict as it is the US who initiated and hype this conflict.

China and US affairs is along history with South China Sea worse. None of the concern Singapore 🇸🇬. Singapore PM are trying theirs best to avoid more misunderstanding.

很多人都从表面上看到是李氏智慧的表现,而本质上是由于新加坡能够做到对东方文化和西方文化充分且深入和真实的观察理解。中美两国目前彼此做到这一点完全不可能,剩下的只有战争边缘的试探。God bless US & CHINA !
I used to think that Lee Kuan Yew - in making his son Lee Hsien Loong, the next Prime Minister - was being dynastic. But listen to Hsien Loong talk and see how he had continued to bring stability and progress to Singapore. History will show that Lee Kuan Yew made the correct and necessary choice.
Much respect to Li, but as an American I think his view of the future of the US is too optimistic. The decline here is real. I don't see any path toward reversal of this decline within the next 20 years. It seems to me that we are more likely to start another large war than green cooperation or the other possibilities Li mentions. But anything can happen, I suppose. Perhaps I am too cynical.

China is not doing much better … cost of zero tolerance is huge, as well Xi is trying to move away from capitalism that was the key success factor of the last 40 years prosperity. Like America, all the social problems becoming more critical when the economy getting worse. Both super powers are indeed like shit after the pandemic. I don’t believe in major war … simply because they can’t afford it financially let alone to rebuilt after tearing everything apart!

There are too many parties that benefit from sabre rattling from both sides. But I can't imagine a time where not starting a war means losing the election. So I won't worry too much about that. It's more of a problem to have the country recognize climate issue, for example, and stop denying it
No big power ever treat tiny and small nation as equal partner in human - nation history, the only difference is which one is less oppressive and harsher to deal with . 😁😁
PM, your contribution to the world peace is very much needed. Please help to pull the USA and China together as friends for the benefit of mankind, continue to prosper and grow, to live peacefully.

When Prime Minister Lee talked that some country is more equal than others, he refers to U.S. However, I see that the interviewer did not get it.

新加坡是实用主义。 I‘d like to use the example of Singapore, a tiny country that went from a third world nation to a first world nation in three decades. It never picks sides between the US and China, but is friendly to both countries. As its founding father Lew Kwan Yew once said: Singapore is so small and open to the outside world and outside forces It's vulnerable. So there’s always to be alert to the forces we work. When the forces are in your favor, use it. Take the wind and sail with it. If it is against you, bring your sails down, and wait for the wind to pass. He only thought about what's good for the country, never risked the country's vulnerable fate.

that's how i see it too. Singaporeans as a whole understands just how little power they have in the grand scheme of things and as such have a strong sense of unity. They completely understand the meaning of 同島一命, and that no matter what decisions are being considered, the singapore people must consider what is best for all of them together as they move forward. a smaller boat must learn to use the wind if it wants to survive through dangerous waters
Joe Biden stated clearly that he would not allow China to surpass the U.S. This is a very serious comment and it definitely triggers more stringent rivalry between the two countries. In effect , government leadership with big hearts is very crucial in maintaining harmonious relationship among the countries ...

Having such BIG hearts to accept other nations' esp from non-western to thrive and grow stronger is one very rare quality ever possible for American politicians throughout.
