Saw Dweezil in 2018. Vai wasn't with him, but the rest of this band was. PHENOMENAL show. One of my top five, well, maybe ten, concert experiences. Dweezil upholds the name "Zappa" like no other child of a famous musician has upheld their parent's name. Fun story on how nice Dweezil is: a friend's ten-year old is a huge new generation Zappa fan, and wrote Dweezil a letter saying he wanted to go to the show. However, as alcohol was served it was an adult only venue. So Dweezil invited the kid and his mother to come to the rehearsal for the show, and after that they didn't bother to make him leave, so he got to see the whole show too. You should watch more of Dweezil. He can execute everything his father played flawlessly. Not even Steve Vai can really do that. And while his energy is way more laid back than his Dad he was absolutely in control of the band and on top of every twist and turn of the music. Also obviously enjoying the f**k out of it. Blessings.

Dweezil spent 2 years learning to play guitar the way his father did before even assembling a band, that speaks louder than anything about his commitment to it. I hear he intends to tour again, and I hope he does, I need a live fix!

I saw this show in Seattle that is on the ZPZ dvd, and saw them in Denver earlier in the tour where I was able to go to the sound check and meet Dweezil, and it was a pretty emotional thing to see. They are all so gracious, Dweezil is a total prince of a guy. Thanks for the reaction.

How does a person write a song like that? How does someone rip a solo like that? How does Napoleon go on forever? Why does Sheila kill everything she plays with apparent ease? And would Frank approve of it all? Is it genius? Questions for the ages.

liked what you said about Dweezil's character. A humble man, not like his dad, lol. Think its a little unfair to expect anyone to have Frank's presence on stage and the main point of ZPZ is to keep Frank's music alive and bring it to new audiences. He does this better than anyone else with love dedication and integrity and he should be applauded for that. This is, AT LEAST, as good as any live version Frank ever did (TBBYNHOIYL is up there) Steve got the plaudits on this one, rightly so, but watch the rest of the video. They did loads of brilliant stuff without Steve too. Dweezil is doing this to bring music to people who might not otherwise hear it. He's toured 8 times I think over here in the UK and have seen him at least 3 times each tour. The first tour was nearly 100% old farts (like me) but that demographic has changed each year until on the last tour, 2019, It was between 40 and 50% under 30's. Almost as heartwarming as the concerts, for me, was watching these younger fans buying Frank's albums before and after the show, that was until his cow of a wife and 2 youngest kids spaffed most of Franks fortune try to stop Dweezil using his own surname. So, Dweezil is doing more to keep Frank's legacy than anyone. Certainly more than the self proclaimed, old fart Zappa know it all's you get commenting on reaction channels like this

Yeah I was suprised that no one had suggested this before. I saw this tour the very next night here in Phoenix so, obviously, the DVD was not out yet so I didn't know what to expect. Terry Bozzio was also part of this tour but tore his bicep the night before so he didn't play but he sang I'm So Cute & Broken Hearts Are For Assholes but I was let down that I couldn't see him play. Then Steve came out and blew me away. I had never seen anything like that before or since. Thanks for the reaction my people. ✌❤🤘

There's another version where Steve and Dweezil trade licks back and forth. And also another one with guest guitarists Mike Keneally (another Zappa guitarist) and Guthrie Govan (of the Aristocrats). Besides having his own band, Keneally has toured with Vai, and Satriani as a guitarist/keyboardist, and there are videos of his own band where he plays both at the same time. Govan is one of Vai and Satriani's favorite guitarists, and he actually has a note by note lesson on line of how to play Vai's "Tender Surrender". Frank had Eddie Van Halen come over and give Dweezil guitar lessons when Dweezil was 12, and a 15 yr old Dweezil has a couple of solos on Frank's Them Or Us album. There is a Y.Tube video of Dweezil talking about Eddie helping him with a school show and tell presentation, and how Eddie was the first person who phoned when Frank died. Then Dweezil plays Eddie's "Eruption".

@@Ferretbomber For one of the best reactions to an extreme Ian Anderson solo, see the oldest video on Finnish flute player Heline's "Heline Reacts" Y.Tube channel (from Tampa Stadium 1976). She had never seen him before, and this is a solo with a lot of vocalizing through the flute. Her reaction is pretty funny, and she grew to like him a lot.

I requested Mike's Kedgeree about 6 months ago. You obviously know the song but if you haven't seen it, Dan and Sifa's reaction is great. I also have an Aristocrats track booked in for March. Saw ZPZ with Guthrie in Manchester about a decade ago. Was such a bonus and, for me Guthrie is supreme, better than Vai.

Dweezil approached Frank's compositions with a serious Reverence, often taking up to 2 years to learn the Solo's of Frank's more difficult pieces. Most Done would not have the Courage, to play their Genius Father's Music, often to Frank's Original Die Hard Fans. He is so Sincere in his Work Ethic, that I had to give him credit, after seeing his Tour! Great Job Dweezil! You can be proud, your Dad Is!

Dweezil did Zappa Plays Zappa from 2006 until 2020 when everything shut down. I was at a show in Tarrytown seeing Dweezil the night they shut everything down. Over the years he grew into the role and became much more relaxed on stage. I am glad he does not try to act like his dad. That would seem cheap and wrong. Yes, he is a very nice and humble dude. This was from 2006, the first year he did Zappa Plays Zappa. Producers made him take Frank Alumni because they were afraid he could not sell it on his own. That lasted one or two more tours. Dweezil is a very technical player. The band are all amazing players who are dedicated to Frank's music. Dweezil took two years off and sequestered himself in a studio to relearn his playing style to be able to sound more like his dad for this project. This band is one of the things the Pandemic took from us that I miss the most

Best electric Rock/pop guitarist of all time. As Zappa considers him his ""little Italian virtuoso"". Frank puts on his credits on albums Steve played in, as "stunt guitarist". In 1981, I already had him rated higher, technically, than Eddie van Halen. He learned tapping from Halen but plays it better.

Dweezil is an amazing guitarist but he's not the showman Frank was. While Dweezil is completely play by the numbers, Frank was an improvisor, putting on a different show everytime. But, like you said Dan, no diss to Dweezil. He definitely has his chops down. I and some friends saw him perform in 2019 and met him and his band after the show. Definitely one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
