Vai is the best guitarist of that style. He has total control. Exceptional.

Awesome! Dwezil does his dad proud. Rest of the concert is amazing too; caught a glimpse of Terry Bozzio's immense drum kit in the front.

I love ZPZ and Dweezil did his father proud Dweezil is a great guitarist in his own right and took years to study his father technique to play his music right I saw ZPZ every time they toured and each line up was amazing Singer in video is Napoleon Murphy Brock This clip is from a DVD Dweezil put out and it was shot and edited beautifully Other great clips from same Peaches En Regalia Black Page 1 and 2 ( With Bozzio playing 1 The Drum Solo and Vai coming on for 2 ) Although the best performance I ever saw live was when they did Cosmic Debis and Dweezil dueled with film footage of Frank , unfortunately there really isn’t any great clip of that available

Had the great fortune to see Dweezil back in about 2016. No Steve Vai at the show, but the incredible honoring of the integrity of Frank's music was evident. And Dweezil owns the name "Zappa". Truly a phenomenal player and just a truly nice guy. A friend's 13 year old kid was a Zappa freak already and wanted to go to the show. Sadly for him it was 21+ as they served alcohol at the venue. Bummed, the kid actually wrote Dweezil a letter. And Dweezil responded, inviting the kid and his mother to attend the rehearsal before the concert itself. Kid ended up staying for the whole show. NICE guy. Get a chance to see him live? Do not...DO NOT miss the opportunity. Blessings.

@@Royale_with_Cheeze Who is going to say not to Frank playing their song?
@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Жыл бұрын
@@Royale_with_Cheeze Correct me if I am wrong, I saw Dweezil play in Australia, under the name of Dweezil plays whatever the fk he wants. That was after he battled with the family. Have things now changed since they sold franks music? And will Dweezil no longer tour playing Franks music? What a bummer.
@Royale_with_Cheeze Жыл бұрын
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 He would have to get license permission from UMG to play the music. When fighting with family over it, they all still owned the rights to the name and the music. I would think that BMG would want to promote properly played music if it would turn into more sales, but for Dweezil, he wouldn't get anything out of it outside of being paid for playing it.

Steve via used to play in Frank's band bro back when he was 18 years old and dweezils guitar playing is criminally underated just like his dad there are so many incredible dweezils solos but check out the 2010 cd of Zappa plays Zappa inca roads

Not quite. 18-year-old Steve Vai auditioned for Frank and passed the grueling audition, but Frank felt that he was too young and inexperienced to handle the rigors of road life. Frank hired Steve to transcribe guitar solos from the albums and that turned into The Frank Zappa Guitar Book. Vai finally did get to tour with Frank and his Rocking Teenage Combo starting with the fall tour '80. True to Frank's expectations, the road did take its toll on (then) 20-year-old Stevie. Suffering from exhaustion and dehydration, Vai describes turning green at one point but kept playing on. That first tour also got Vai introduced to groupie Laurel Fishburn, and that encounter with the hairbrush turned into the song Stevie's Spanking. The stuff of legend.

That's Napoleon Murphy Brock on vocals. He was in Zappa's band from late '73 to mid '76 and again in '84 (for a very short time, I think he got fired for doing coke as drugs was a no-no in FZ's bands, certainly after '71).

many moons ago during your early Rush reactions I mentioned to have a look at STEVE VAI, Steve was voted the 10th greatest guitar player of all time. where to start! Steve appeared in the 1986 movie 'CROSSROADS' have a look at the EPIC GUITAR BATTLE SCENE, Steve the devil's champion up against RALPH MACCHIO, ( remember the karate kid!). good verses evil, who will win Ralph or Steve. Have a look at NOW WE RUN ( SteveVaiHimself) Steve Vai playing with 2 violinists, also keep an eye on the drummer Jeremy colsons great performance during NOW WE RUN it's not a Neil Peart from Rush size drum kit but he can certainly play it. Steve tells the story of his tunes with his facial expressions. Have a look at STEVE VAI INCREDIBLE GUITAR PERFORMANCE HD video with a great line up of guitar player's and his old friend on bass from back in the 80's BILLY SHEEHAN, Billy one of the greatest bassists I ever saw. you will enjoy the unusual guitar playing in the middle section of the tune.. I was at a show many years ago Steve played a beautiful tune WHISPERING A PRAYER LIVE AT THE ASTORIA LONDON. great facial expressions great performance, the only problem with this show was the poor camera work. Steve also appears with other artists POLYPHIA EGO DEATH feat STEVE VAI. 12 million views in only 4 months, he also has a cameo solo with unbelievable Swedish singer from the trio DIRTY LOOPS, JONAH NILSSON, on JONAH NILSSON- DIAMOND RING, also during this video and at the end is a cameo appearance from QUINCY JONES, who looks after DIRTY LOOPS, you've got to check out dirty loops version of Michael Jackson's THRILLER, a collaboration with guitar player CORY WONG and his musicians , this one will get you dancing in your seat, dirty loops are FIRE! I call their music happy feel good music, you could be having a shit day put on a dirty loops video and you feel good, speaking of shit, a great dirty loops song WORK SHIT OUT, this video is amazing, three classically trained musicians, jonah nilsson vocals and keyboards, HENRIK LINDER one of today's amazing bass players and AARON MELLERGARD on drums . back to Steve Vai playing a triple neck guitar TEETH OF THE HYDRA. just a few to get you going. best wishes from the north east coast of England. ps I forgot about the ultimate guitar and bass video BILLY SHEEHAN and STEVE VAI "SHYBOY (Zawzaw Zaw) video on KZbin. a song from back in the day 1986 with David Lee Roth.

@Philip Short - At the beginning of your post you asked, "where to start?" I think the best place to start is Steve's beginning as a professional musician. Vai got his start with Frank Zappa and has thanked him for over 40 years. He did phenomenal work with Zappa. You didn't mention that for some reason.

Wow. I never knew Steve Vai played guitar on that. I really enjoyed that song way back then. I found it quite a departure from Sex Pistols. Just looking that song up now on Wiki, I see that L. Shankar played violin on it. Two Zappa-related artists playing on Rise. Must've been why I enjoyed it so much.
