Virgin Wiseman - everybody follows trigger despite him being a squardron leader - treats count like a newbie despite count's experience in the penal unit - make trigger do all the work, just like any other npcs in the game - his sense of humor is overshadowed by his food loving AWACS - discount swordsman from AC5 - his sacrifice go to waste because mihaly's plot armor Chad Chopper - disses his AWACS for how stupid he is - calls blaze kid despite blaze's superiority - doesn't care grimm is a newbie - his jokes other than to lighten the tense situation represents the player's and the team's dissatisfaction for all the bullshit they've been through - actually shoots down enemy - his sacrifice saved many lives on the stadium and made the rest of the wardog soon to be razgriz squardron can withstand 1000 G's to outmaneuver his killers

man. i remember just putting on autopilot and just sat there quietly for so long right after chopper died. i didn't engage at all. enemies were swarming me but i just flew like they weren't there while the music grew quiet. my heart just dropped and i completely lost motivation in fighting off enemies. it really felt like i lost someone. this was a very unexpected part for a game like ace combat. what an absolute masterpiece.

This still hurts. I remember the first time I finished this, I had to stop. Hearing Chopper sacrifice himself then your squadmates crying and raging after and fighting harder really messed me up. I've played a lot of games, many with very low points, but this one is the one that's stuck with me.

I was panicking like a wimp since I didn't do any prep trainning and just have a mission to fly and looked good when flying. Lost like a tourist, I just stay glued on Edge's ass. Sweatin like a swine. Then broke down losing Chopper, and going berzrk shoting down Yukes. Damn the mental gymnast.

I broke down sobbing my first runthru on this. And mid sob when they said "more bogies" it immediately switched to rage. How dare they interrupt my time to grieve. The voice lines were perfect "wha...theyre flying like demons what the hell!"

If you consider how badly damaged his plane was from the missile and whatever else hitting him, if he said the electronics were bugged out, it was only a matter of time before the planes main systems, like the engines, cut out, and his plane nose-dived anyways. Given how far away November City is SUPPOSED to be from the ocean, and how precise he'd have to be at controlling it, he probably just COULDN'T manage it, not because of skill, but because of the plane itself. Keep in mind, when the electronics of the plane go out completely, you can't steer the plane AT ALL. So as devastating as it is to say it, Chopper DID make a good decision, despite it sucking absolutely. Don't worry...Getting vengeance for his death was just as satisfying as hearing he survived would have been.

@David Price First of all, we don't know WHERE he was hit. Bartlett's plane took a near-miss to its left wingtip, which meant it had limited mobility, but could still fly fine. From the sounds of the battle chatter, which you clearly ignored in your attempt to bully your point into validity, Chopper took a more substantial hit, because the ELECTRONICS in his plane were shutting down one after the other. And guess what the plane needs to keep from jsut dropping out of the sky?

@Potato King I doubt he had a choice in the matter. By the time he even GOT to that point, if the canopy wasn't blowing and his instruments were having issues, that meant his engines had probably given out as well. Which meant maneuvering his plane wasn't an option either.

Just finished this mission. Soon as I heard Chopper got hit by a missile, my heart just fucking dropped. I knew what was coming, and I was just internally screaming for him to eject, even though I knew it wasn't gonna happen (I had an idea of what was going to happen due to some spoilers). Even with all that, it was fucking heartbreaking seeing him crash into that stadium just like that. I had no idea a fucking flight sim could make me feel like this

One thing that's inaccurate: the F-14's canopy and ejection systems use ballistics, with small explosions jettisoning the canopy and then the RIO's seat and then the pilot's.

It still requires an Electronic Signal to detonate the canopy and the RIO and Pilot seat in the correct order... otherwise, you end up with the same situation as Goose from Top Gun, where an electrical fault caused the Explosive Bolts in the Canopy to detonate improperly and resulted in Goose breaking his neck when the RIO seat tried to launch while the Canopy was still attached. What is more, some data seems to imply Chopper had become Suicidal after the War took its toll on him.

I believe the headcanon that while not planned beforehand, he intentionally didn't eject when the opportunity presented itself, unlike how Nagase did in mission 14 despite the conditions. He was already complaining about the state of the war for some time, and I imagine as well Thunderhead and Nagase starting to get annoyed at him during missions had also got to him over time, as well as jet lag from numerous hours-long flights between Sand Island and Yuktobania, and to eastern Osea as well at least 2 times
