About her little bum swing, I have seen similar moves in my geldings when they fight over their fence, but I think it was confusion. My gelding can get really confused and even very frustrated when I'm trying to teach him something. He does weird moves like that when he's flustered. I've been trying to teach him "hugs" but all he thinks to do is back up lol!

She really is a beautiful horse, you’ve done so well training her. She’s so sweet, just like you, and you two (and zin) are such a good group. Obviously it’s hard to train, especially a mustang- but it’s equally fun and enjoyable. Most of the time!

You’ve done such a great job on her. I admire your patience, not everyone has enough horsemanship to take it slow and train a horse right. Blessings from another Texas horseman!
@varanaj15392 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate the updates! They help remind me that taking it slow is OK, and I can see how much happier Zara is than many horses I see that are being trained without positive reinforcement. Keep it up!

I’m so glad that she is back to her normal self! She has made so much wonderful progress!! I know it’s such a relief when our furry friends are back to themselves! You did a great job finding the solution to her problems! Have a wonderful day, I’m praying for you and your journey with the horses! 💛

I’m so glad Zara is doing better! She’s so precious. It’s always concerning whenever the vet has to come, but I would be especially panicked if I found out my horse had worms. You should very proud of Zara, and yourself, with all the progress it seems to be going VERY well with her!

Watching this is so great. I've watched your videos for quite some time now and you are truly inspiring. It's great to see how you don't lose faith in your mustangs even when you have some downs. I recently started to work with a seven year old gelding who has never really been trained. He spooks a lot and only feels safe in his paddock, so bringing him outside or even riding him isn't possible at the moment. Since the beginning of February, I tried to teach him how to bow. Yesterday was his first time actually doing it properly. I'm so proud of him. Liberty training is fine to him, but leading is difficult. We're taking small steps, but I'm sure with a lot of patience and love we'll work it out! (Sorry for my English btw, I'm not a native speaker..)

She looks completely different! Her carriage is much calmer and she's not holding as much tension in her body and doesn't look as rigid. Also her movement! She's free flowing from poll to tail when working with you and looks like she's super bodily engaged but relaxed. At first glance, the side passing could be her confusing the cue. To me, it looks like she's totally cued into you and is asking/ready for more. With my girls I cue them for "behind" whenever I'm near their butt or "under" when I go under their neck and "side" for side passing, and it took just adding the word to the action in the right tone of energy with a reward and they picked it up really quickly and it reinforced our communication and their trust in me. This was after I had started them and their behaviors were "asking" me to operate using certain cues and I call it their "terms and conditions" for interaction. With her, I would say it's very similar where shes' not confused per say but is giving you a behavior partly shaped for you to continue shaping. I see it as a golden opportunity to start lateral work with her! When a horse does a thing and it's a behavior I know I want to install for later for whatever purpose I just shape it positively from where it started. TBH this is how my two OTTBs learned a lot of their behaviors, just by experience and learning from interaction. Obviously not every moment is perfect, but they are all learning moments. Why I feel like positive assocation and rewards work so well is because it takes the pressure away from the act itself and into the connection and tuning into your horse and how they are communicating with you, and leaving room for the horse to make mistakes and learn from them, safely and positively. I did this with my girls about stepping on leads. We worked in a controlled enviroment with pressure but ocassionally they would catch themselves and were super explosive at first. But once they realized they weren't going to be punished and could move their bodies after it happened a couple of times it became no big deal and they also became more in tune with me when they had an oopsie. Because I stayed calm but supportive, consistently, they developed a sense of comfort from my prsence. You're doing amazing and this journey is so NOT linear. She is coming along so well and you are doing an outstanding job of giving her a solid foundation and she is clearly thriving. She looks great aand keep up the amaing work! ❤❤

I love your view on training I am trying to become a Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, and one of the biggest things we are supposed to teach is viewing our horse as a partner vs a tool. This has been very hard for me because I am a very affectionate person, and my horse is not. I have to learn to respect his boundaries. I also understand the frustrations of regression and just feeling like the horse is doing everything but what you want. I am learning to cope with PTSD and anxiety, and I have had to learn how to leave my feeling of frustrations out of the arena. I have noticed when I dont our horses are a lot more pushy and get on my nerves. I even had a rider nearly fall off a couple months ago, and had another horse buck with a different rider. Its times like these I just have to remember even the best trained horses aren't perfect and neither are we. Be kind to yourself I have so enjoyed watching you work with Zara.

Wow, that backup was superb! 👏she is so in tune with you! And that idea of drawing the rope behind for leading omg! So clever, I'm taking note of that one 🤩 You know what, I think the health condition had to be a great part of it, I mean just imagine how draining must be for the body to deal with, we have to give it to her the right to feel unsettled... I wanted to suggest if you don't mind me, I was struggling a bit with the nose in the halter with Marley, and what I end up finding out is that my position was part of the confusion, and when I started to stand next to his shoulder kinda tilted facing him, holding the noseband open about belly high, he started to just put his nose in by lowering his head very easily and happily, however, when I stud ahead of him, on the front or holding the halter high he will struggle and get frustrated, so I thought maybe my experience could help 🙃 Also, I kinda feel you when you had your "bad" stage, sometimes we do amazing, and all of the sudden at some stages we backtrack and felt a little frustrated or upset... then I came across this podcast called " In the Spirit of the Horse" and it was in the episode " Un-breaking a Horse - When all they say is "No" " and omg, that was so profound, I totally understood why he was saying No, and how much they playing up or saying No actually improves and deepens the relationship! So I thought I'll share... I felt so upset about your previous video, that somebody could make you feel that way when you're doing an exceptional job! I mean, you can simply tell by how upset Zini got when you ask her to get in the trailer for the first time at home! ( baring in mind her association to the trailer at that time was going to live somewhere else and never come back) however, as soon she realized she didn't have to go anywhere, she was more than happy to hop on and off haha Which just shows how much she loves being there! 😍 Sorry rant over 😆😘

Hi! Wow she has improved so much and it’s been wonderful to watch your progress. I am in a similar situation (not with a mustang but with a rescue horse that was barely handled). Some days she is amazing, and others she has big spooks and I feel like we take 10 steps backwards. The bum thing was interesting, and in the past it used to concern me to have any horse bum that close, but this horse I have now will back into me and fall asleep. I wonder if it’s like dogs in that they have the utmost trust in you when they sit their bums on you. Zara didn’t seem aggressive, her ears were not pinned so I’m wondering if she’s beginning to feel comfortable with you. Anyway, great video! Keep it up!

Dude, she follows your lead and goes backwards. We train with Lipizzan mares and in many classes when you give the "go back" command they ignore you. XD To me, this is AMAZING! Tho, I understand it is a bit different with school horses because they have to work with all of us "morons" and it can be confusing. XD
