It’s not body weight in pounds that equates to how many gms of protein you need a day. It’s in kilos, which makes much more sense. Same with the chicken. There are many options for cooked chicken that you can eat right from the fridge. Buy a whole cooked rotisserie chicken and eat it cold or warmed up. Not time consuming. You don’t need to get that processed cured deli chicken that’s full of preservatives, nitrates and salt.

In India, you also have cartpullers carrying lots of fruits and a grinder to squeeze fresh juice which does not have any additive sugar. I used to drink a whole glass everyday while growing up.

Whole Fruit >>> fresh fruit juice for sure, but that it's all sugar is wrong. It's fructose which contains all the vitamins and miberals just not the fiber ( the fiber is important ). Not everything that Indians do is wrong. Parents feed juice to young ones only when they refuse to eat the limes abd oranges. Otherwise everyone knows that fruits are better and encourage kids to eat the whole fruit

I enjoy coffee in the morning. Depending on my mood, I may have black coffee, black coffee with 2 tsp of sugar, and weekend a cup of loaded coffee cream and sugar. But coffee and Ginger ale are my favorite two.

wow i thought this would be a comedy podcast but I like the fact they are having a real family discussion here. Let me tell you Indians have big family discussions all the time at home. We love to badger and challenge each other on multitudes of topics. Right from food to global politics and even technology. Great so see a respresntation of Intelligent Indian family peoeple. I love Zoya she is opinionated but also agrees and thinks the other person too can be right.

Coming from India, I still eat fruits not drinking juice( even home made.with or without pulp) A small glass of orange juice is at least 3 oranges. That’s the issue. Nobody eats three oranges in one sitting. Also carbonated water, you can’t consume much. The gas in it makes you feel full. We can gulp down water 8 ounces, just like that. Water is available easily. All I know is stay as close as possible to natural way of consuming food, you can’t go wrong.

Really thank you so much Shalabh uncle because you told us that not only the canned drinks but also fruit juices are surgery drinks which in India nobody talks about and also thank you for stating this fact that teenagers and adults should stop drinking that. That 7 spoon of sugar concept was amazing now I am pretty sure I am not gonna drink any canned drinks.

To me coke is the best drink in the world. But it’s very bad for you. So, as much as I love it, I don’t drink it all that much. Maybe once every 3 months. Coffee is sooo delicious and smells so good but my body can’t handle it so I’m missing out. I can’t drink it at all. I love Pina Colada but that’s a treat very rarely. I’m stuck with water which I don’t mind since it is the healthiest drink anyway.

The thing about carbonated water. It’s acidic so you lose tooth enamel (like acid rain on the marbled Taj Mahal). Also, this constant acidic environment in the tummy spoils the ability to metabolize food. There is no research on this but it seems like plain biochemistry to my simple mind. This constant acidity created also by coffee and tea as the first drink on an empty tummy may be causing silent GERD. Synthetic protein has been known to damage kidneys. Please read about it. Just using almonds, eggs, bananas, almond butter etc. are great natural protein sources whether in liquid or solid form… Stick with water. Brij full marks. I also shame (inadvertently) all my friends when at parties. I dont drink because it doesnt do ANYTHING for me. Im so fun with just water. Ask anybody!

Protein requirement is generally .35 to .4 grams of protein per pound of body weight. So for example, generally a 165 lb person needs 60 grams protein per Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics . More importantly, people are not getting enough fiber, which should be 25 to 45 grams fiber per day.

I don't drink anything except 2/3 cup of tea. For proteins, i eat dal with different types of lentils, for fat, desi ghee 1 spoon, carb chapathi/paratha/rice. Non veg folks can develop taste for bioled egg and chicken and fish. We should develop habit of eating fruits. That should be sufficient for whole of life. For social drinks, pick anything just don't overdo or make it part of your daily life.

6:02 Regular water or seltzer? Let “hear” from charGPT: about Hydration Efficacy Both regular water and carbonated water are effective at hydrating the body. The primary purpose of hydration is to replenish fluids, and both types of water achieve this. Studies have shown that the body’s hydration response to carbonated water is comparable to that of regular water. Absorption and Hydration Speed Carbonated water may be absorbed slightly more slowly than regular water due to the presence of carbon dioxide, which can create a sensation of fullness or bloating in some individuals. However, this difference is typically minimal and does not significantly impact overall hydration status.

The milk in starbucks is bad. Probably Not stored hygenically. Use powder milk instead in your coffee instead. They overcharge you too. Learn to make your own coffee, and experiment with various brands and flavours. For iced coffee get a good blender. The ice ruins the blades. Buy an expensive japanese flask, the coffee will stay cold all day. Monin syrup needs just a spoonful to flavour water, their fruit flavours are delicious. In carbonated water, it tastes even bettet. Red bull sugar free also has taurine, also good for the heart. Coconut water helps to clear the bowels, some have raw coconut bits which are yum. Protein shakes are poison. Ruins your kidneys. Milk is better anyday, even better is lassi with monin syrup.

Zarna, I wish you would call a nutritionist or someone actually knowledgeable when you do episodes like these. I understand that these are your family's personal takes, but I think episodes such as these also become an avenue for misinformation and for reinforcement of biases that members of your family have. There is misinformation about coffee on the podcast for example that newer scientific research does not support. Please refer to scientific works like this one for your reference, Poole R, Kennedy OJ, Roderick P, Fallowfield JA, Hayes PC, Parkes J. Coffee consumption and health: umbrella review of meta-analyses of multiple health outcomes. BMJ. 2017 Nov 22;359:j5024. doi: 10.1136/bmj.j5024. Erratum in: BMJ. 2018 Jan 12;360:k194.
