In beer leagues around here, it's almost universal for the D to take the slot-side hash mark in front of the goalie and the winger right behind him/her to shoot out and cover that center opponent D. But moving the wall-side players around is too confusing. We've usually got spare players, etc, that aren't in the loop on that. It's a good compromise.

Thats what we do in beer league as well, the problem is the strong side winger is picked by the opponent's winger, the other team's strong side D has a ton of time and space because nobody on your team can get at them easily. I might have to suggest this to our team....

@@Thumper1986 Makes sense. Although when our strong side winger lines up behind our D at the hash marks, the opposing winger is a bit off the path and facing the wrong way to catch me. I haven't had much trouble getting out to the center D to check/block in time unless the puck comes straight to him, but that's not too often. Caveat: we're not a very high level team.
