Never was a center, played wing my whole life until a buddy of mine kept asking me to take face offs during a game. Always come back to this video after I lose a few. Even wingers need practice with face offs, you just never know. Thanks for the great tips, Jeremy!

Love the videos man, I just switched to center because no one else likes to play it but I love it, so much more freedom on the ice and you're the "go to" guy. I read your article on your main website and can't thank you enough Jeremy, I'm still working on my faceoffs but you've helped point me in the right direction. The transition I've made from last year has gotten my coaches attention and he likes throwing me out there in key moments, so thanks again and keep it going :)

I always watch the puck coming out of the refs hand and react immediately. I see a lot of people just stare at the dot waiting for the puck to hit it. You're too late if you are reacting when the puck is hitting the ice.

Alright now here's a question that I have, I am also a center men for my team and I seem to have an issue with getting that opposing center tied up right off the draw. I normally do win the face off but he seems to get through quite often. How can I interfere with his movement without getting called?
@howtohockeytraining
@howtohockeytraining 12 жыл бұрын
@jdilla21 If you are going high you from a distance you need to roll your wrists over more to keep the toe of the blade pointed down, you should also follow through lower. If you follow through high it goes high, follow through low it goes low. Rolling the wrists helps keep the puck down.

I played a lot of hockey in my younger years, and was quite good at winning faceoffs. I liked a lot of the techniques you have shown. Maybe you are just assuming everyone knows this, but there is something you have not shown and I think is the most important thing in winning faceoffs. The first lesson I ever learned in taking faceoffs is to always keep your eye on the puck in the referees hand. Every ref will drop the puck differently and with different speed. If your not watching the puck and just watching the ice, all you're doing is guessing when the puck is coming down. Watch the puck and your winning % will improve with it.

No the puck has to touch the ice first before you can touch it. After the puck touches the ice you can win it however you want. You can even win it with your hand if you are in your own end (defensive zone), but not in the offensive zone.

When I was younger there was this kid who kept spearing me and giving me a cup check on the face offs. I was so mad, so I rented the movie face off to get ideas. Well, turns out that movie has nothing to do with hockey, but did give me ideas, so I cut his moms brakes to her mini van, she crashed into a tree. I cut her face off and put it on mine, went to his house as his mom and grounded him. Only for about two weeks though, because I got over it, and turns out he was a good kid, fast forward to 12 years later and he just graduated med school, I couldn’t be more proud of him. I guess you can say, we both won that final face off. His father and I are so proud of him.
