That "bad" grouping is the result of multiple factors: - the 4x scope is far from what we would today consider a quality optic - PPU "match" ammo is nowhere near the quality of proper match ammo for modern calibers - the AK long stroke piston is less accurate than other modern systems used in DMRs This rifle is plagued by the same problems as the M76 but it's far from a bad rifle. It's robust, very reliable and can make reliable hits on a man sized target up to 600 meters. It does exactly what it was designed for.

4:04 a minor correction: the POSP series is manufactured by Zenit-BelOMO in Belarus, with the Serbian military using the Zrak ON 6X42 made in Bosnia-Herzegovina. EDIT: I have been informed/reminded by a Mr. Mirko Jovanović below that there are indeed two 'Zrak' factories; the one in Teslić, Serbia is the one supplying the Serbian army and mounted on their M91. The Teslić factory was renamed to PEMA, though is colloquially still referred to as 'Zrak'. The full designation of the optic is ON M93 6x42, not to be confused with the Zastava M93 'Black Arrow' optic, which is designated ON M94 8x56. EDIT 2: My life is a sham; I thought I was familiar enough with the various entities, national boundaries, and cities of the former Yugoslavia to affirmatively state that Teslić is in Serbia (it isn't). Teslić, Republika Srbska, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Hopefully that is the last of the incorrect information.

By our doctrine, at up to 200m you are not suppose to use optics. Iron sights give you better field of vision and it is considered that optic sights are not necessary at those ranges.

At distances up to 200m you are better off using iron sites and maintaining your situational awareness, plus it's easier to follow fast moving targets and just to remind you, you are not firing at static targets.

When doing the service, the shootings with Rk 62 were done with iron sights to 150 metres. Maximum points on ten shots was 100, majority getting 70 or over. The "bullseye" was around size of the palm, fingers excluded.

Hey Ian, you can adjust the POSP scope in smaller increments than the turret clicks. Loosen (don't remove) the silver screws on the turret, and rotate the top black ring relative to the silver ring.

Parallax ? There's a LOT of it about. Many commercial optics have parallax adjustment "rings" often at the objective end of the scope. This becomes more necessary as the "zoom" range and magnification increase. However, it can be found in much simpler, low-power optics. Back in the day, when I was a military armourer, it was discovered in random examples of the scope tubes on our F-88 rifle (OZ-built AUG). One soldier was pretty miffed about it. At a major competition, he had a correctly-located, very small group after a pre-match confirmations shoot. The first match the next day was 300m rapid. His two "sighters" plonked right into the centre. Part of the "conditions" for this shoot are that the firer , after those "sighters', MUST break aim. The rifle butt can stay in the shoulder, but held muzzle canted down. When the targets appear, it's off to the races. Ten rounds later, targets down and insert markers, hoist targets. This bloke had shot a group that could easily be covered by a small hand. BUT, it was displaced low and right, all in a "scoring" area, but pretty dismal numbers. When we got the beast back to the bench, it was clamped in a fixture on a heavy bench a, and aimed, through the big door, onto a convenient mark on a building about 200metres away.. If you moved your head, the point of aim "shifted", despite the rifle being locked down. The position of his head on the stock changed when he broke aim after his "sighters" and then, a minute or so later, launched into the timed firing string. Parallax!. In a 1.5 X scope? Yep! One of Murphy's iron laws of combat operations is: "Never forget that all of your equipment was supplied by the lowest bidder" Not in that game anymore; all I have is the Jim Croce collection: "Photographs and Memories". 11:05 you are referring to parallax error, this is not necessarily an issue with the scope just a factory that needs to be mitigated. Best way to avoid parallax error is to have a good consistent check wield, which is the reason for the cheek riser. If you can't use the installed riser you may need to bubba something up to get a consistent cheek/head/eye position.

Tale of two Zastavas: My custom .243 Win built on a beautiful Mark X Mauser action and Shaw bull barrel cuts cloverleaf groups with minimal load work-up and no fancy case prep. My former Zastava CZ999 pistol was junk. Nearly new from the box where pulling the trigger would not allow the hammer to fall, just a 'click'. Also some of the worst ergonomics I have experienced, despite looking like a P226. My high hopes were severely dashed. Zastava also made the "The YUGO" vehicle too.

The offset has never been a problem; it's no different than taking into account the height of the scope above the bore if your zero at 100 yds takes into account the slight offset (I believe it's .6") and at combat ranges, it won't make a difference, anyway. The reason for the offset is, yes, originally, stripper clips were intended to be used; military doctrines of the '50s and '60s didn't include issuing large numbers of magazines to individual soldiers. Also, it makes using the irons considerably easier, which their military trains for as it was found that irons were the better way to go for targets under 200 meters if one takes into account faster target acquisition and maintenance of situational awareness. Yeah, it would probably be better if they had centered optics, but, at this point, I think it's become a (former) East bloc tradition. You'll find that the Russians and other Slavic militaries are quite pragmatic; if these things were issues, they would have been done away with. Such things only seem to bother civilian armchair soldiers who have seen all their combat in war movies and fantasy range drills.

They give him a "new" AK and he was fobbiden to tuch sights. This AK had sights with bad 0 and barrel was beat to death. And after this he had trouble to hit a target. No consistant grouping and with distance more than 100m there was almost impossible to hit anything. And he could do nothing about this. Not even complain. As civilian if i get bad eq i just fix or return to seller/manufacturer.

Think you're right with that assessment, the fact that the last 2 groups seemed to form a circle with no "center hits". It reminds me of inconsistent eye placement on some Marines had with ACOGs on annual qual who were usually to far back and the reticle was "hovering"

If a scope has unadjustable parallax, you can try grouping the rifle by fitting a rear cap with a 1/4” hole in the centre. Keeping a central sight picture is much easier and will eliminate the parallax.

The poor results are because of the ammo. I have fired numerous Dragunovs, M76 and FPKs and they perform poorly with everything except Soviet 7N1 Sniper Ammo. With that ammo and that ammo only they are all pretty accurate. I think they were designed for that ammo which is too bad, it is damn expensive fodder but it does work well.

With this ammunition other non famous M-91 shooters are reporting 1 MOA groups. Rob Ski reported a sub MOA group.

The adjustment is likely mils. .1 mil at 100yds equals .36" . And 1 mil equals 3.6" at 100yds. A mil is 1/1000th of something. So 1 yard at 1,000 yards....or 36" at 1,000 yards. Move the decimal place for both....you get 3.6" at 100yds. One turret click is 1/10th that... so move the decimal place over again.....3.6 becomes. .36" at 100yds.

Ohio Ordnance made some really fine M76's from these kits back in the day. Most were chambered for 30 06. The reason for "Century's" name was that was how long it took you to make their shit reliable. I've owned a couple of their guns (CETME, C93) and had to rebuild them from the ground up. On the bright side, I became really good at working on roller delayed stuff.

The way these rufles are set up you still use iron sights at a close range and at distances you use the optics. This is still an influence from the Soviet Mosin-Nagant era. Everything has a purpose.

Very inaccurate rifle. I used M77 (Ooops I meant M76 in 7.92x57mm Mauser) with the same optics during Yugoslavian civil war when serving in JNA (Yugoslav People Army). I shoot M76 with 196 grain "sniper ammo" (I think it was 196 grain) a lot during my sniper course in JNA. The best I would ever get was 3 inch at 100 meters 10 rounds group. And that was rare. I later used it during civil war in Croatia. Heavy, not ergonomic and inaccurate. I did own and shoot VEPR with 23.2 inch barrel in 7.62x54R here in USA. I was getting worse than 3 inch at 100 yards 10 rounds. I used various match ammo. The barrel quality on Serbian and Russian rifles is quite bad. As soon as the barrel heats up it becomes very inaccurate. Finnish Mosin Nagant runs circles around this rifle (and VEPR). I own 2 of them. Long stroke AK system is pretty much garbage when it comes to accuracy especially when you combine it with poor quality barrel. I do lots of long range shooting here in USA (old habits die hard). I own Savage 10 FCP-SR is 308. It is amazing to me that $475 rifle can be SO much better than M77 (Ooops I meant M76), M91 or VEPR. Even regular AR-10 is leaps and bounds better. Nice video.

I have Zastava M2010 .243win and I shot 1" or 3cm 3 round groups with iron sights all day when I take my time and shoting fast it spreads to 3" at 100m. I like my ak garbage lol Comparing M2010 or M77 to M91 is funny and tells me how you have no idea about rifles nor Zastava.

@@turbografx16 . I have done similar comparisons in the past. I have been building and accurizing rifles for over 10 years (glass bedding, trigger polishing etc..). Up to ~1000 yards you will not see much difference. I just got back from the shooting range. A guy that I know brought his 300 Win Mag. His barrel was built for a specific bullet weight, the stocks was fit to the barrel (they did a very nice job free floating) and the action is custom built for the barrel. He has muzzle brake and silencer. Whole 9 yards. Beautiful rifle. Very expensive, did not want to tell me the price but I am guessing around $3k-$4k. He had $2k Nightforce optics. I had Savage 308 FCR-SR with SWFA 10x42mm scope. I shoot good ammo. I had Federal Gold Medal loaded with 185 grain Berger bullet. BC(G1) for my ammo is 0.552. Up to 750 to 800 yards there was no difference. I am slightly better shooter and have better eyes, so I was able to keep up with him at 1,000 yards. After that there was no competition. He ran up to 1 mile without much problem. It was 25F with RH=65%. The wind was between 2 and 6 mph coming at ~90 degrees. Savage in my opinion is the best bang for the buck if you don't want to go to custom expensive rifles. Remington 700 was good but they have too many quality control issues. The guy that shoot with me today is taking his rifle to Texas for pig hunt and he will try to shoot at 3,300 yards. He promised me some video of his groups. We will see.

@@turbografx16. It is a very nice rifle. Very adjustable and surprisingly light taking into account it has chassis. The only "negative" that some people don't like is that the barrel use to be made out of 4140 Steel Alloy (not sure what they do now). But who cares it is not a machine gun. There are videos of people hitting targets at 1 mile with the rifle. I am biased to Savage because I like my 308 to have at least 22-24 inch barrel. If you shoot 6.5 Creed than 24 inch barrel is standard across the industry. Also, AccuTrigger on my Savage is set at 1.5lb. I like it, some people that shot my rifle hate it. They like more resistance. You should try and decide for yourself. I am pretty sure you will not be disappointed in Ruger or Savage.

I think both Atlantic and Zastava were surprised by how fast the first batch of these actually sold. I've been eyeing an M76 for a while, since no mortal will be able to afford a real SVD anymore and I have a soft spot for the 8mm, I'd be interested to see how these compare. I would put ( if you can ) a Leupold 3x9 x 40 or a good 6 X scope , leave the scope on 4 or 6 X and shoot a 5 shot group and see if the group size is caused by the scope .... I tend to shoot 5 shot groups as sometimes a 10 shot group the rifle heats up or you get tired

Fairly decent waterline group right there! Might be an artefact of the uncomfortable shooting position , reticle movement or receiver movement. Practically impossible to get a good cheek-weld with that setup for a left-hander. Still shows potential.

Dave Johnson I really think you are on to something there, along with the scope mount could be working loose. This right handed M-91 shooter is getting consistent 1 MOA groups out of his. But I have a lot of experience shooting side mounts and the cousins of the M-91 (PSL, M-76 and Tabuk Sniper clone).

When I was building precision rifles , the customers scope was frequently the cause of problems. Apart from piss-poor handloads and shooting skills - not to mention the local expert “helping”. I built a jig with QD mounts and a collimator and this often revealed reticle movement or erector-tube issues. Even dry firing can reveal reticle jump . But just looking at Ian shooting , he has to make considerable effort to line up in an unnatural position and as he gets more fatigued the consistency suffers. That would be my #1 take out on this. You know yourself : a ten round match requires a lot of concentration and effort and if things bug you at the start they generally don’t shift toward the better. That’s why we have those days where the safest place is the centre bull . Maybe not for you , but I’ve had plenty . 😂 Can’t really do it anymore : my eyes just don’t allow it. But I think with some tweaking that rifle could shoot better than it has a right to. That first flat waterline tells the story. Even placing the bipod on a flat smooth surface may help because there’s a lot going on there under recoil and cycling? Bodging up a cheek adapter or maybe trying to set up a decent sling : very dynamic rifles often shoot better when locked into one in preference to off a bipod or rest? Maybe a scope with 8x and a reticle lock like the IOR’s from Romania?

The first few shots with a cold barrel were fantastic. After that many my Tikka T3x would open up as well, maybe not that much but a fair bit. So I guess it would make a much better sniper rifle than a DMR. And the scope problem if that you're shooting it left handed, you can clearly see you cheek weld is really low.

if you may notice, this sight lacks rubber eyepiece from SVD, which should, in theory, not only protect your eye from hitting by scope on recoil, but also helps to your eye's position uniformity through the shots.

I bought 2 CAI M76's from J&G several years ago for $1000 each and they came with the original scope of course. To date I have only fired one and it has been 100% reliable. The lowest gas setting throws brass 30 feet. I modified the follower by welding a tab on the rear so that it cannot tip forward. Before that I used a Snap Cap as my last round so the follower wouldn't tip. I think this rifle was a bargain for $1000. Just don't expect AR-10 accuracy from it. You will probably get 3" group at 100 yards like I have. I keep meaning to try a better scope, but I don't think it will make a difference. I would like to get a M91, but $3150 is too much for a rifle with average at best accuracy.
