You are 100% right brother! He and Calvin Keys (who played with my dear Uncle Jamal) were the reason I started playing jazz guitar! As such it was indeed such a privilege to play Breezin' in front of GB. (The full performance was of course cut down by the tv programme edit). He is really a refined gentleman, a truly very nice man, on top of being the musical master he is. It's such an honour and joy to play music when you know that someone is not just hearing what you play, but really and truly listening. GB was truly listening to my humble attempt at some dulcet sounds, but in his presence it was more than just playing guitar, as an experience - it was surreal ! Thank you for watching man! - ZM

@@troysanders7775 wow a Fanboy, who would have thought. You are aware Joe was one of George's biggest influences along with Wes Montgomery? Listen to 'A foxy chick and a cool cat' if you wanna hear smooth, or his solo 'What are you doing the rest of your life?' Contrary to what you might think, guitar playing is NOT a competition, it's a performative art form. Such a shallow and narcissistic question George Benson is literally on record, talking with Jody Fisher, singing the praises of Joe Pass. You're a goose. 🤣 Moreover, if you seriously consider 'smooth' a legitimate and career defining Jazz genre I suggest you stick to Kenny G. Benson's bop, blues, and even some of his pop are superb, he's peerless at what he does. So too was Joe. I'm not going to validate you.

The best out and out Jazz guitar player is Ernest Ranglin. He is on a different level completely. He is in his 90s now and can still hold his own.

You’re entitled to your opinion but while I love Joe you have to be willfully blind to deny the fact that no other guitarist including Joe has proven that he can transition between traditional jazz and smooth or pop jazz like George has. If I’m wrong then please share with me here links of Joe playing smooth jazz tunes comparable to any of George’s smooth jazz instrumental recordings or live performances.

Sorry not my type of music ,I prefer Country Music melodic and beautiful, words with feeling ,but I appreciate George’s voice and playing.
