@@chainamarie03 I started hearing them on the radio in 1957 and always thought they had the best harmony I have ever heard. And still think so until this day. The only group that could come close to the quality of their music was The Platters. But their sound was mostly Tony Williams doing the singing and the others singing backup. But it worked and it was also wonderful.

To me, the Everly Brothers' harmony is supernatural. I have watched this video over and over again to observe even the synchrony in their movements. On the word, "leave," their heads suddenly assume exactly the same position. They are not watching each other. It just happens. Two voices, one soul.

A sweet and simple lesson in how to fill out an accompaniment to a song with two acoustics in regular tuning. Phil is playing straight E to A changes in the verse whereas Don has a capo on 2 and is playing a D shape with alternating G# and C# in the bottom. Of course it sounds brilliant played on those fabulous big Gibsons.

Had the pleasure of hearing the brothers play live in the 1980’s touring Australia. A gorgeous evening of evergreen songs, new songs & harmonies as good as ever. A friend was their Tour Manager & I was able to go backstage after their Concert. I was standing quietly in a passageway when Don came out of their Dressing Room, flashed me a smile, came up and asked if I’d enjoyed the Show. Friendly, relaxed , outreaching.; we had a short chat. I was more than a little surprised. I watched as the Stage Door opened so they could get to their Limo. The sudden rush of fans that surged forwards gave me a sudden sharp insight into what “ the successful, the famous, the celebrity” must face up to & deal with on a regular basis. Yes, graciously they signed autographs , accepted cameras flashing etc. It never crossed my mind to ask Don for anything similar. 🙂

intense and heartbreaking memories from my early childhood. In those days, I was only 8, and the only singers we could ear on french radio networks were tacky crooners ! Fortunately I came thru the American AFB radio station in Kaiserslautern (germany) on the middle waves .
