I know Z-Dogg hates anti-vaxxers with a passion…. But bodily autonomy is important. The CDC presented papers to back perspectives that don’t make sense… like that the vaccine was better than natural immunity, which flies in the face of what we have learned so far about immunology. The CDC would make pronouncements and then go in after the fact and support these pronouncements with low quality evidence and for people like me who actually follow this, it erodes faith. Only 15 minutes in and while I deeply respect you both, I have some critiques. My understanding is that RFK Jr never claimed that HIV doesn't cause AIDS. It's definitely inaccurate to state he claimed that covid was engineered to spare certain ethnicities. He was literally discussing the findings of a study about genetic variances and statistical impact of covid based on variations in ACE-2 receptors. He stated that "there's a theory" that the virus was engineered. Furthermore, it's at least as likely at this point that covid came from a lab as opposed to natural animal spillover. I thought you were aware of this, Z? Are you not pushing back harder out of deference, or have you really not read the non-conspiracy-based deeper discussions of all of this? Maybe Dr. Offit was too busy reading the vaccine studies and just went with the false MSM accounts of what RFK Jr purportedly claimed? I'm not a fan of RFK Jr for a few reasons, chiefly his backing of Israel as it commits genocide of Palestinians. Yet we need to at least get the facts correct regarding what RFK Jr did or did not claim. Regarding his suspicions about several vaccines, I have heard him admit that he doesn't know all the answers and that he favors better studies. Also, wondering what Dr. Offit thinks of the law exempting pharmaceutical companies from liability for harm caused by vaccines. Necessary to incentivize vaccine development?
@GoSolar3 күн бұрын
there's literally video of RFKjr saying that HIV is merely a passenger virus, but that it's not a cause of AIDS. And that the people who died of AIDS died because they were "addicted to poppers" and part of a "gay lifestyle." He said Fauci said it was an infectious disease because he won a "power struggle" over that question, which allowed Fauci to "take control." So..how do you think people who have AIDS, who have *managed* it with anti-viral medications/protocols..would react to this theory? RFK jr does not care about the truth. He consistently gravitates towards any theory that says the real truth is being hidden; but he is not engaged in an honest good faith discussion about what the truth actually is. (I would put the link to the video here, but I think youtube doesn't always allow links in comments. Google the Advocate magazine article on RFK jr and AIDS. They link to the video.) And, as for SARS cov 2 being engineered -- yes, there are people out there saying that's what happened (there was even a NYT op-ed on this), but there are also many experts in the field who have responded to each of the claims behind the engineering theory, many, many times. While I myself am not an expert, I've seen and read enough to see that evidence for the lab-leak/engineered theory has been responded to; while the evidence behind the Wuhan Market (including that there were two separate lineages) has *not* been responded to by lab-leak proponents.

I had always believed in vaccines, and had both of my sons vaccinated fully. When the vaccine came out I wanted nothing to do with it, the thought of putting anything relating to covid virus in my body felt deeply wrong to me. A few people , including Dr. Monica Ghandi, took the stance of natural immunity, but family denounced me as an "anti vaxxer ", and continued to push me to get the vaccine. I just needed more time to recover , but because so many people in the mainstream did not speak up publicly, I was more or less disowned by my family. Why not in the same sentence talk about what’s causing the cavities. It’s not water without fluoride, it’s processed food. It’s sugar, bread products, sweet treats. Breakfast cereal! I think the bias of personal opinions comes through on this. It doesn't feel like this was a truly honest conversation, that said, we are all human and I can understand why it would be so difficult to remove the personal feelings of previous bad interactions with a person. But the really concerning part is that these 2 placed a lot of trust in the media reporting of RFK Jr, and not a lot of source information was brought in. After listening, the conversation actually made me distrust Zubin and Offit because it felt so personal. Actual verbatim quote from RFK Jr? "People say I am anti-vaccine because they don't want to have the argument with me about how to improve vaccines. I'm not anti-vaccine, I believe we should have safe vaccines and I believe we should have robust science. and I believe we should have independent regulators who are not financially tied to the companies that are making our vaccines." He went on to critique the amount and scheduling of the vaccines, which, when the US doesn't have robust evidence to support our own vaccine schedule, that's NOT a wildly inflammatory stance. Developed countries all over the world give far fewer vaccines than the US, no one seems to question their "anti-vax" status. His stance appears to be that no one has done the due diligence to prove safety, if safety hasn't been proved then they can't be deemed "safe". I am sure there are plenty of critiques of RFK Jr, but I didn't hear any good ones in this episode, sadly.

Then there is the 2013 gain-of-function paper using the same virus and the leaked emails that no one denied when questioned by the Senate. There was that very public shutdown of the Wuhan lab citing inadequate safety. We know the US has been involved in bioweapon research in labs abroad, and everybody except US mainstream media is reporting on the 24 bioweapon labs in Ukraine right now. No way was I going to that, and no way was I going to give it to my 6 month old when that was also recommended. Sometimes, you just need to go with your gut. I read a lot, and I also work in healthcare statistics. That was my research, and I am glad I stayed the course. Also, to be clear. Thats just being real and I think a lot of us would benefit from this; seeking truths outside of our silo. Our at least, seeing the opposing arguments for what they are, in strengthening your own. I think a lot of this "science denial" accusation is short-sighted, negligent and only fuel for more agitated populism. I think what you all are missing is this premise: INDEED, science is data-driven and then should withstand ANY criticism if it's concrete. The push-back is a result of a) "the science" has been colluding and financed so often with corporatist business interests. And b) "the science" has essentially tried to eradicate ALL criticism or questioning rather than be confident and address the public. The censorship during Covid was jaw-dropping. A third caveat is c) "the science" has become increasingly political. This immediatley marginalizes a middle ground, default acceptance from most Americans now. (Great article from 2017 in Scientific American on this.) For evidence of data-skewing and fraud from the alphabet agencies and their links to Big Pharma, just Google any branch and any Pharma conglomerate along with lawsuit, deception, whistle-blower and fraud. "Flawed process at the heart of science and journals"- 2006, JRSM "One third of new drugs had safety problems"- 2017, NPR "How independent is the FDA?"- FRONTLINE, PBS 2003 "Medical errors: 3rd leading cause of death in America"- NPR 2016 "COLLUSION (the sugar industry and science)"- NPR 2016 "Offical Inaction (a scathing criticism of FDA oversight on clinical trials)- Science-dot-org, 2020 The list goes on and on. Like it or not, you can "talk down to us troglodytes" all you want and spin any high-ranking challenge to the system as "conspiracy theory", but it doesnt cover up the massive collusion. deception and fraud that us prevalent in much of the scientific community. It remains to be seen BUT what RFK has said is that he will not stop people from taking vaccines. He will focus on healthy foods. He will make data on the c shot technology available and risk factors will be made public. Other vaccines will have more studies to investigate efficacy and risks. I’m not sure who will be doing those studies. Mandated vaccines will likely be sidelined while allowing those who want them to get them - unless they call into a risk category, I suppose. Transparency will be the strategy.

There problem is that the anti-vaccine activists exaggerate every mistake and twist good communication into a bad interpretation. The other problem is that 50% of Americans have a libertarian tendency and many of those react aggressively to any government decisions that they perceive as being against their personal liberty. In Australia we did not have those problems at least to the same degree. We have a rather ineffective anti-vaccine influence, and we have a collectivist tendency, meaning we have no real issue with cooperating with the government that has no problem listening to the public health experts. As a result, we did not have the problem you had with communication or getting the public to cooperate. As a result, we had a COVID-19 mortality rate since the start of the pandemic that was about 1/4 that of the US and our health care system never became overwhelmed.

Many who’ve studied medical science knew from Day One that an intramuscular injection would not be effective for a respiratory viral disease. Great discussion, and I get Paul’s concern about hospitals being overwhelmed, but mandates are just wrong. You have to start with ethics and work within that framework. If you’re honest about the risks-like explaining how hospitals could reach capacity and what that means-people will adjust their behavior on their own. Some might get vaccinated, others might wear N95s, stay home more, or take other precautions. The point is, you don’t need to force people when you give them clear information and trust them to make their own decisions. That approach respects individual freedom and still addresses the problem.

I agree, specially if the vaccine itself was almost as new as the virus itself. People didn't know the risks of the new drug or vaccine. They were discovered later, like myocarditis, in some groups after many people were coerced into getting it.

As a practicing pediatrician who has worked in the public health advocacy space for my entire career, I can see that we are entering truly dark times. Of course, there are external events such as the confluence of the pandemic, social media, and political division that have occurred. So many opportunists (RFK, Mercola, Oz, etc.) have seized the moment to elevate themselves to acquire greater power and influence for their own sakes. But, I have concluded that what will be actually central to our collective failure to protect my patients is the loss of facts and evidence as the foundation of what we consider to be the truth. The substitution of what we believe (no matter how passionately) for what can be supported by actual facts and evidence will ultimately doom my efforts to serve my patients interests by protecting them from preventable disease. And when measles comes back (and it will), the obfuscation of truth will prevent us from learning and repeating the same mistakes again. My conscience will be clear though. I have done my best and that is all I can do. Thank you Drs. Damania and Offit for using your influence beneficently and in service to our patients.

The US had some of the worst outcomes from COVID-19 among all industrialized countries. (14th highest death rate among all countries) 2.) The US ranks very low among the industrialized nation in education in both math and science. 3.) The US. has the highest rate of people with multiple chronic conditions. 4.) The US is the highest spending country worldwide when it comes to health care. 5.) The US is ranked at 48th in the world in life expectancy, just above Estonia. 6.) This would have been great if RFKJ had been part of the conversation. And you don't need to debate him... Interview him with Paul and when he cites studies that you don't like, go through them in real time with him. Go through the reasons you believe it is wrong- have Vinay there! Have a 4 hour interview if needed or longer. Instead of calling him a liar without letting him respond, have a conversation and maybe we can all benefit from your collaborated views! This is the whole point. This is the way to regain trust- if smart educated people from both sides can come together and discuss different perspectives and learn from one another to improve medicine, everybody wins. There are so many of us right now who don't know who to believe anymore. This is why Joe Rogan is so popular- he doesn't have skin in the game and he takes the time to do these long form interviews and truly just wants to learn and we are all seeking honesty and transparency (as Dr. Offit states). Nuance is important. I agree with you both on many things, but I would love to hear you discuss all of the claims made in The Real Anthony Fauci with RFKJ in real time. That would be so great!
