The last time I played Sunday league the ref wasn’t giving us anything all game. Finally in the end of the second half we get a penalty to hopefully even it up, it’s a definite penalty also. I so I turn to my best mate and say (just between the two of us) “We finally got a decision “. Ref hears me say that, books me and then takes away the penalty and gives them a free kick where the goalkeeper brought down our striker. I watched my manager chase that ref halfway around the pitch before we all stop him from giving him a hiding. It wouldn't surprise me if this ref was the same ref that day!

A man seeking a non-significant position of power (over women) to stroke his own ego gets called out for his impotence by... a feeemale? Of course he gave her a red card. No cards for the brutality on the field - it's violence against women, he must be super turned on by that. But talking confidently in the direction of an alpha-man? Must be punished harshly! So says the book of Tate. I'm pretty sure he would have gone straight home to beat his wife and yell at the kids to celebrate his accomplishments here. But I'm confident no woman ever let him near her. Local judges must hand-out restraining orders against him like he hands out red cards. God, seriously, if this guy wasn't paid to fix the match, I think someone needs to look more into him. His computer must be full of illegal stuff and he certainly is a danger to society. That man's ego is as fragile as his masculinity is toxic. Mark my words: He will commit (more?) crimes eventually...

Even if refs get things wrong, you still can't say what you want. And the other player just got a yellow, not a red. Yellow for diving: Is it the wrong call? Probably, but I can see why he saw it as diving. It didn't look clear. 2nd red card: I can only assume that she said something, but I don't know.

How is the FA still hiring this guy. He obviously doesn’t know how to ref and has a hint of sexism too. Also if I was a Lewes player I’d be like ‘ref like take our keeper off this is utterly stupid and wasting our time’. Also ‘you don’t know what you doing’ - is such a polite chant in this sort of scenario. If this was a male non-league game - the amount of swearing and cursing would be unbelievable!
@HollieandThomas21 сағат бұрын
As a referee myself. The first “incident” could easily be perfectly fair, smashing the ball just to complain to the ref is easily dissent (a yellow card offence) however, if she said something that the ref would deem as foul or abusive language, then it’s a fair red card. Second sending of again, could’ve said something that classes as dissent, just depends on what was said but as mentioned she did seem calm and relaxed so perhaps a VERY harsh sending off Goalkeeper tripping that player is definitely a red card for me! The ball is going wide of the goal but it wasn’t really still moving fast and a clear sight of goal by the time she got back up and almost got to it again, defender was too far away The 2nd lewes goal is legit for me, defender blocks the path and slows herself down therefore no foul given. The corner flag HAS to be on the field and CANNOT be removed. If a player deliberately removes or significantly displaces a corner flag during play, the referee will typically award an indirect free kick to the opposing team from the point where the infraction occurred, usually near the corner flag area; this is considered a minor infringement, and depending on the severity of the action, a caution (yellow card) might also be issued to the offending player Absolutely no clue why he gave a red card
@djsaidez27120 сағат бұрын
Maybe more dissent/abusive language for that last red card? I’m still stunned since even though it’s been a few years since I officiated, I don’t remember angry language being a straight red, I thought abusive language covered unsportsmanlike stuff like racism

The first red card could have been offensive & abusive language which is a red card. Dissent is a yellow but if what she said was aggressive he's well within the laws to send her off. This is the women's 3rd tier and so the next yellow card is not her 2nd as he never shows the red, but a use of the sin bin for dissent. The yellow for the keeper isn't so cut and dry because it's gone so wide so he could quite easily argue that to his observer. The foul for the goal is a clear error and he would get pulled up for that. A player can't move the flag, again if he's getting observed and he doesn't stop her doing that then he'd get marked down. Admittedly that game should be getting called off as you said. The final red card is almost certainly the same as the first. You haven't heard what she said. For all you know, she said "I hope you family dies" and I can't imagine you'd think that's acceptable. Clearly the red is for what she's said not what she's done. A quote from the match report on Watford's website "Drè Georgiou was dismissed for alleged foul language and captain Megan Chandler was sin-binned for dissent." The mad thing about people commenting on refs is that they have no idea what they're talking about and yet you're putting this guy down like you know better when you don't. You've made several errors in your understanding just watching this clip and now you're making awful comments about a guy in front of your thousands of viewers for knowing the laws better than you.

For context, our team was made up of pretty well off white kids from the Walmart home town of Bentonville. Fouls were invented or ignored as deemed fit, goals were disallowed, coaches were red carded and so on. It got so bad that the ref was sending off players parents from the stands and getting police to take them out. A complete farce, and as I am English I found it a complete abomination of the game.

1) Law 12 - Fouls & Misconduct - "using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or action(s)" (You hear her call the ref a fucking idiot) is grounds for a straight red. 2) Law 5 - The Referee - "The decisions of the referee, and all other match officials, must always be respected." The card was given, he's not going to overturn it, so leave the pitch. Their captain doesn't accept the decision and keeps hounding the ref. A captain can converse with the ref but if they're told you no then it's a no. 3) Ref obviously already annoyed with the Watford players but to give the benefit of doubt, he had to have thought it was a dive otherwise that's a red to the opposing keeper. Lino should have had a view too and at least influence the decision. 4) Law 17 - The Corner Kick - "The corner flag post must not be moved" She gets more than one warning and more than likely says something under her breath as the ref walks away otherwise he'd not turn. 5) Law 12 - Fouls & Misconduct - Lewes player is actually impeded by the Watford player play continues with advantage to Lewes. "moving into the opponent's path to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player." You could argue here that the ball was still in playing distance with a super outstretched leg but at match speed it'd be hard to catch 6) Absolute foul with shoulder and arm going into the Lewes players back. Can see why it's not given though if officials thought the contact was shoulder to shoulder or the Watford player got her body infront. Ref clearly was unhappy with the Watford players and a little card happy when he could have diverted from the direct ruling and given warnings but seems to me he just played too much by the book. The nearside lino needs to give their head a wobble though or pull out her FA handbook. She even enters the pitch to avoid running through mud which is a big nono. Groundskeeper might want to actually do some work.

The funniest part about this to me is that it ends 2-3 lol. All of that chaos, referee that is blatantly incompetent, man obviously hates Watford/women or both, and you still manage to almost get a draw lmao

Did Lewes bribed the ref or the ref just hates Watford?

Couldn't hear what the player said to get sent off but foul or abusive language is a straight red.
@Moleoflands8 сағат бұрын
No it's not. Dissent is a yellow unless they were racist or suchlike, or threatened the ref. Just calling a decision bad, or insulting the ref is a yellow

the fact they didnt refuse to continue playing may mean this isn't too unusual at this level as well...

A lot of comments on reddit say both straight reds are specifically for verbal abuse; for example, in the first instance she allegedly called the ref a "fuckin' idiot". If true, kinda rough how the dude's clips spread over the web like wildfire without the context.
@djsaidez27120 сағат бұрын
I think also the confusion is that you don’t see that much in top flight games, so when a straight red is given for verbal insults towards the ref (barring stuff like racism) it seems like a very excessive response, and I say that myself as a former youth ref

The way betting companies are taking over football, someone bet there was going to be 3 red cards to watford and paid the referee.

In his defence, he’s only level 5 so isn’t particularly qualified (level 7 is newly qualified), and this is far from the worst refereeing performance you’ll see. The kick of the ball away was already a yellow for unsportsmanlike behaviour and we don’t know what she said, if she’d called him a stupid c*** that is a straight red card and he made the absolute correct decision. The second we also don’t know what she said, but she was talking a long time and may have been warned to leave the situation, but you do not touch the referee. It does seem over officious, but he’s fully within his rights to give this second yellow. The keeper is a clear red card, but probably what he’s thinking is it’s a heavy touch and the ball is running away from goal with the possibility of the defender covering. I think he’s wrong but I’ve definitely seen worse decisions. There’s actually nothing in the rules about puddles. It just has to be not dangerous and he’s judged it not to be. There is a rule about the flag being in the ground. It’s actually a bookable offence to take the flag out of the ground and he’s using good common sense to not book her, sympathising with the conditions. Again we don’t know what she said to him but clearly he felt it was a straight red which abusing an official is a red card offence. Yeah that’s a clear foul for the Watford goal. I guess he saw it as shoulder to shoulder but it’s clearly in the back. Small miss with big consequences. Overall he didn’t have his best game and it looks bad, but it’s very likely he has a 0 tolerance policy to abuse which is to be commended. No one deserves to be abused at their job, and refs at this level regularly travel hours to matches on their own dime, work for the best part of 4 hours (they have to be there an hour minimum before the match and then deal with admin after) then travel home for £150.

I think some of the interpretations aren't right. The first Red might be in line with the current FA rules if the player was deemed to have said something offensive. Watford confirmed the "alleged foul language", second yellow given to Chandler used the new sin bin rule, so they were down to 9 players for 10 minutes, back up to 10, a then a different player, Rossiter was sent off. A dissent yellow for removing a corner flag, followed by a straight red again for it appears to be for language. So, the ref doesn't seem completely out of order on these, and well within the rules. The Lewes goalkeeper absolutely needs to be sent off, he got that one wrong. The Lewes goal where the Watford player cuts in front and both players tumble causing the Watford defender to go down. That's not a foul, if that central defender hadn't been there, the Lewes playing running through is arguably fouled by the Watford player cutting in front of her. I've not watched the rest but the referee needs some slack here. It's hard enough to referee a game, you can't see everything, you don't have the benefit of video replay or individual frames to check. At this level of the game it would be better for you to be defending him or football refereeing will get worse. If no one wants to do it, you have to start lowering your standards and that only leads one way. Referee shortages, cancelled matches and less football. But, I might change my mind a little depending on what happens next.

Yeah, that shoulder in the back is a foul. The argument about puddles in the corner and not having games as a result, same thing for treatment of refs. All refs are different, there are things I'd let go, and generally in the first instance of dissent, I'd have the conversation first and try to diffuse. This ref had a different approach and he definitely needed help from his linesmen. Also, for all the he could have just let them play without the flag on e.t.c. It is also true that Watford could have recognised the issue and had a left footed player take the corner, or have a player pass it short to a less puddly part of the pitch and then whip it in. They did have 10 players on the pitch at this point (sin bin rule meant Chandler was back on) so a short corner may not have been the best solution. Getting yourself sent off when you know how this ref is with dissent was a mistake, an understandable one.
