Zebco 33 Stripped Gear Fix

i got few of these j 33 reels i see a lot of time when people use these reel they will tighten drag to the maxs and try to pull the line trough the reel to snap off snags like you said that will strip the flimsy gears thats why for years now i have been taking a glove of rap my hand with a towel or shirt on my hand then rapping the line around that to pop off snags to save the gears in my reels great video and advice as always mat

Andrew, that is a good tip. I often wrap some line around the front of my pole grips to get a snag off.

Matthew, you can buy shim washers in various materials. You can also buy shim stock and cut your own. Another great video.

I wondered if there is something like that. I was going to use a little brass grommet yu see on the table, but I didn't want to trip it down. Where can I find a little set?

Customizing the lash to a minimum very well might create gear engagement on a deeper larger part of the gears and make it stronger. This is another super tune on std. 33's I would think.

Matthew, Because the pinyon gear is spiral it takes lube to save it from wear now as you know the white medial it's very soft so it wears fast when it is not lubed just a footnote I hope it helps anyone who reads this Matt. Ed.

Not that I am aware of. The only other option is a donor/parts reel. It is sad, because the rest of the reel will be in great shape. It would be cool if that little gear could be 3D printed with something tougher.

They can be a little rougher, but properly cared for they will run smooth and give you years of service.
