I think you would need those washers down below, probably as shims. The entire white hex plastic piece rotates under drag, so there's some rotating friction down at the base of the white hex piece, even if it's not under upward pressure from the pressure plate. I'd probably lube the Teflon washers a bit down there and see if the drag works ok. I dunno weird design

Thanks. That makes sense. It looks like the whole design is for the sole purpose of being able to pop off the spool with no tools. Personally, I'd prefer an e-clip which isn't that hard to remove. Some day those little nylon catches are probably going to break when removing the spool (due to age & wear).

Good video. I can't help but think at least one of those two bottom washers were a replacement for a metal one? Or a metal one in between.////bill

Thanks. I bet you're right. It doesn't seem to make any sense to have two Teflon washers there.
