You don't need much and good design helps. This is a nice little reel and doesn't cost but a few dollars. Perfect for ponds - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Oh just reminds of my 1st spinning reel. Wish I still had that one.

I think I decided very early that I did not want a reel that did not have a line roller. I think I do have one and I don’t know where I got it. It’s a beautiful little reel with the brand name of Jaguar. I actually fished with it once. I think I would have done better with a hand line. I only have one Zebco reel - a saltwater 6050 spinning reel. As a kid my first reel was a plastic Zebco 202. It was a lot of fun. I think this must be the simplest reel you’ve ever done on this channel.

I think it may be!

This is not a bad little reel. Its cute. I would use to fish for tilapia and oscars. Would not use on amberjack. If you want a unique fishing experience and you can find one try an Airex Vic.

Dennis I think the Alvey side cast reels would be just as simple . 😉👍

Yes - center pin reels are also easy

My first open face spinning reel. It features an automatic brake-anti reverse. Except this feature breaks right away. Sent it back to the company for repair twice. Gave up on it staying fixed. Mine had a cast metal case. Found a 777 years later, you can turn the brake on with a lever. Otherwise fish can get off the hook with no working brake, unless you catch the bail from turning right away, or sit there holding it!!

made in early 60's to about 1970, when it wasn't in their catalog any more. I'm surprised I never saw one. Of course all my group new at that time was the 202

Hi Dennis. I recently bought a Penn Jigmaster (made in China) on Ebay. The seller advertised it as "never been used" and "immaculate condition". I received it today and I will say it is in perfect condition. Super smooth function too. The handle has a little play in it though. I read that can happen from a worn gear sleeve which. But again, this reel is virtually brand new. Is that normal for these models and is it something I can modify or just live with? Thank you and appreciate any suggestions.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Little is a relative term, so I am not sure what little play you have. It is normal to have in and out movement, so if it does not appear to be excessive, just live with it. The movement is actually causes by the groove on the gear shaft widening over time because the pin that holds the gear sleeve on wears the channel. If it is new or near new, that would not be a cause for concern now - Dennis

In reference to the Zebco 707, does less moving parts make this reel an effficient reel? Is there less to go wrong because of less moving parts?
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Less moving parts makes it simple and less will break as a result. As for efficient, that can be measured differently - there is more resistance and force needed to drive the reel. Ball bearing would make that more efficient. There is no anti-reverse, so that could be less efficient. etc. Thanks for the note - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Just cleaned and lubed my old 707 reel. The reel is going between $25 - $40 on eBay and it does have anti reverse, mine works. I have the manual and it states it has anti-reverse. Have to be careful when you separate the housing - anti/reverse consist of a very small spring with a cap that sits in a tiny recessed hole next to and engages with the flat part of the gear shaft. Plant to have a lot of fun with this reel.
