Very helpful, thank you! I seemed to have corrosion around the tension wheel which meant I couldn’t turn it. Pulling it apart and grinding away the corroded metal around it fixed it entirely!

Nicely done. Since watching your videos l bought a box of older zebco reels and cleaned them up along with the reels that l have owned for years. Thanks for the technical info.

Hey, so glad I could help. I love hearing stories about all the guys who are getting old boxes of reels out and putting them back to use. It is amazing how well they work with a little cleaning and new oil and grease!

I had to sand about 1/16 of all 3 pickup pins as when i would "clutch" they would still be out of their housing ( about 1/16) wich was grabing on my line when it would free fall or cast. I first tought it was my rod's guides that had grooves but when i put the reel on a brand new rod i had , it did the same. The problem had to come from the reel. Changed line size and type . Went 8lb 10lb and 12lb , mono , hybrid , fluoro and even tried braid (just for the test, not to fish ). Yet , sure enough , every line did the same thing but i finally put the finger on the problem because of the braid. On the braid, it was very clear that the line was getting tore every inch and a half or so. The exact measure between the pickup pins. Sanded then flush to the housing when "clutched" and smoothen their tip as it was super sharp before. Did the same test with the different lines and even the braid again and VOILA. No more chewed line every inch and a half and the best , it now free falls completely freely and cast smooth as silk.

My 2 year old Z03 Pro is now slipping gears on retrieval of about any size bass. The handle slips when attempting retrieval and I can hear a loud grinding/slipping sound as I attempt to turn the handle. I'm not sure if the problem is the drive gears or the crank rod nut assembly. The drive gears appear to be fine. The problem feels like it's in the handle assembly. I've tried replacing the handle with the extra dual handle it came with but same issue. Any suggestions? Thank you!
@OutFishing13Matthew
@OutFishing13Matthew Жыл бұрын
The handle has a V-shape that fits into a slot. It needs to be snug or it slips. I wonder it one or both are worn out.

@@OutFishing13Matthew , it definitely feels like a handle assembly problem. What parts would you suggest replacing, if cost is feasible? Thanks again.

So, you are mainly doing light casting. A 5.5 foot two piece casting rod, with a 1/8 to 3/8 ounce casting weight. Zebco makes some good rods. Check out the Rhino.

@@OutFishing13Matthew I live in Australia. Zebco parts are more difficult to get. Not sure even a 33 Gold asit does have that plastic bearing retainer or a K series Platinum. I do reel service part time so the maintenance aspects of reel weigh heavily on a purchase. Looking to do more freshwater fishing in a year's time when I retire. Mainly saltwater stuff now. I just bought a 33 Micro Gold and will be doing a pre-fish service on it. Do you like the K or the N series better?

@@davidlove7825 I like the K series better. That's too bad about the cost of parts. They need a Zebco Australia.

Hey fella I have a zebco 33 combo rod n reel I bought from canadian tire. Worked great for first three casts then spring came off inside. I've put back on and reassembled but now when go to cast as soon as the button is depressed it free falls does not lock there for cannot cast as it just drops.. I've tore apart many times now everything seems to be there as I've checked multiple diagrams on internet. What could be the cause?

Matthew, I would like to know what the real advent of having this reel over the old 33 of the 80,s is, please
@OutFishing13Matthew
@OutFishing13Matthew 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question I bet others are thinking too. This reel has a total of 7 bearings in it. Two on the handle shaft. Two ball bearing on the main pinion shaft, plus a roller bearing for the anti-reverse. Then it has 2 ball bearings on the handle grips, making them smooth and very long lasting! The reel has the Omega Mach 3 gear system which was used on the first Omega Zebcos starting back in the 1970s. It is a very smooth durable gear system. There are some drawbacks though. For example the rubber/plastic button is prone to wear out and crack.
