This stream put a massive smile on my face. I'm almost convinced that the random treasure that appeared is due to a contamination between the clank blocked line and the treasure line, in a lot of cases when clank was blocked, treasure would increase by 2. Is it due to some redstone that gets powered where it shouldn't. Or is there a card that adds treasure for every clank that is blocked and if there is, is that card permanently on? It happened at 21:40. 1:24:29 is one instance. 1:31:45 is another time, closely followed by 1:32:15. At 1:29:15, every clank blocked seems to add 2 treasure for several clank in a row and when the artefact was obtained 3 clank was blocked and 5 or 6 treasure added. (I don't know the cards that well so I'm unsure if Chill step adds treasure). 1:33:21, another stumble that added 2 treasure. Another instance at 2:20:55. 2:35:45. This was also a problem once in yesterdays stream as well. The card call-outs reached the lobby, seen on Zed's side after he died. The reckless charge at 1:15:49, a shrieker was triggered after 9 seconds, my guess is that the signal took too long to reach the card to count. If I'm correct the reckless charge card will give 11 embers instead of 10 when it is triggered right now. Remember that there is an off by one error in the comparator subtraction as the observer registers the increase in signal strength as well as the decrease. For the correct amount the book should be set to 6. The blue coloured cards on the map need to be another colour as there were tons of viewers that mistook them for missing cards. This would probably be the thing with the other hermits viewers as well. 38:40, I did not hear the artefact sound. An artefact station that wasn't wired up? Love that the trapped chest worked as intended. Zed running in a wild panic from the spiders was glorious, followed by his refusal to face them again. Remove the red concrete box outside the citadel for the opening? It sticks out a lot against the snow. In the dead end room just north from the stairs in the crypt there is a block missing, in case you have time to fix it. The chairs in the lower crypt made it difficult for Pumpkin to give chase, it got hindered by the chairs, this might be okay as the room is very open. Is the fluffy bunny slipper card limited so that it only gives it's boost once per staircase, so that no hermit thinks that they can throw several keys at the same door to get the bonus several times.

That dead end room you're thinking of opening up around the 1:45:00 mark... you could make it a jump boost shortcut instead of a hazard door. You were looking for places in level 1 to add jump boost, plus I feel like having that route be open 75% of the time when it's not hazardificated would be too easy of a route to the throne room.

A few quick notes: - There was a hole in the wall on the room where you exit the game (before dropping to the artifact processor and the shop). - Another hole near the entrance to the dripleaf trap. This one, you can even walk and exit the game to the redstone. - Based on Zed's reaction, "Relinquish your artifact" isn't clear enough (shouldn't be an issue after the hermits watch the how to play video?). - "Take your items or I'll feed them...." needs to draw more atention or be louder. It took Zed 3 times before he heard it at all. Yes, he was talking, but hermits will probably be talking too, if they are recording or streaming. - Hazard kicks in too fast. Somebody suggested adding a delay at the beginning, so you won't even try to increase hazard for the first couple minutes or so (instead of tweaking it to just be slower or less frequent). - Need to remove the banners in the 2x2 ice square treasure drop corner thingie, and in the TNT area. If it were me, I'd leave them, they fit very well and level 1 is where the players are learning the game. But you say you wanted to remove those too, so... - When Zed asked about adding lore to the cards, I think he meant "lore text" to the item, so you can read "blocks 3 clank" or whatever just by hovering the card. Like Beef did with his TCG cards. It would make it easier, but it would also detract from the amazing artwork, and prevent you from tweaking the cards just by updating the images. - You said you should add signs to the tutorial room stairs, to the drop from the exit room, and to the shop reminding them that any purchases will be placed with their deck. Anyway... that was awesome. Can't wait for saturday!!!!

I agree about the items warning. I think it's a fun thing to say, but I personally think it should be more explicitly stated that you left items in the chests. Maybe even add some sort of warning blare (or just a 'WARNING' before the warning)? As for the lore text, Tango is aware of this; he doesn't want to have mechanical info in lore because then he can't push updates to existing cards (whereas resource pack updates can happen seamlessly). So if he does use lore the plan is to use them for fun flavor text.

I did really like that Zed sneaking a bunch does helped him quite a bit. Make it feel like that any number of deck style as well as playstyle (sneak or run, etc) can be viable. I do think a quick explanation to how treasure and ember is distributed would be really helpful to the hermit (maybe in the video if it isn't already in it) because it is one of the few mechincas of the game that is not immediately intuitive to players and a player's understanding of it can drastically alter how they perceive each card in the early game. For example, A "Treasure Hunter" card doesn't literally mean there are 4 more treasure item on the ground across the entire dungeon now but instead your chance to encounter treasure has been increase by 4 instance.

This made me realise that clank block cards indirectly also help you with hazard, because they allow you to run through the dungeon without ruining your chances of escaping. If you don't need to sneak around you take less time going through the dungeon which means there's less time for hazard to build up

I was watching Zedaph's side of this while live, so ignore me if it got brought up on stream, but I saw 2 accessible holes in the dungeon. There's one in the exit room right before dropping down. The right side is open. The other one was by the dripleaf parkour. On the left when facing into the dungeon, there's a few blocks missing. The runs were super fun to watch. Overall the game feels like it works while playing, even if some bits don't actually work. I love how impactful cards feel. Not having much in the way of passive treasure and ember drops was a great decision, so you need cards that do it. Hazard is so impactful, which is great. I'm still not sure about clank balance, but it's so variable depending on how passive people play and what cards they have that it's hard to say without more people playing the game. Can't wait for the general release, and just want to affirm that it had to release some time, there's less bugs in it than most AAA game releases so you may as well get it out there

Final random thoughts and ideas watching this last pre-launch stream (twice): Zed's times from putting the Frozen Shard in the barrel to hitting the pressure plate starting the game (the 7 times when there were no delays) range from 43 seconds to 53 seconds. That's with no gear dropping off or difficulty re-selecting. Adding another 5 or so seconds to grab the map and compass, and run through the door and into the dungeon, you could easily lower the reset time by 50 seconds with no issues. By the time you delay the cart for another 2-3 seconds like you mentioned (to give time for Porkchop drops), you could realistically make the reset time a full minute shorter, and someone would have to purposely rush through every step to even have an extremely slim chance of picking up anything from the previous round - and that would have to be right at the entrance and have dropped right as that previous round ended. I know you have a lot of counters for cards played, games played/won/lost, etc. Maybe it could help to add a counter to each of the five difficulties so you can at least have an idea of the success/fail ratio might have something to do with the difficulty people are running. You've said you were hoping for 60-70% success, but I think right now the Easy difficulty is going to be more like 40-50% at open. (And, even with larger decks of cards, that is probably at least 10% harder per dungeon level lower you have to go just because of RNG getting keys.) Considering the players can't get any cards or crowns unless the run is successful, that means with only five runs, the average player is only going to be able to get maybe 2 new cards in a week. That means it will be about a month of runs before people have the approximately 10 cards you've estimated are needed to reliably have a chance of completing a Level 2 run. I feel like players are going to need 10-15 shards per week in order to succeed enough to continue progressing before things get stale and/or frustrating. I know you'll gauge these things as time goes on anyway, though, and it's easy enough to change later and just give them more. Maybe selectively place one or two lights in the spider area to make them spawn a little less/slower, so people will be more inclined to at least attempt that path. As you and Zed have both shown, most people are just going to avoid it at all costs as is. He preferred to "dance on lava" as you put it. You could even hook the lights up to the hazard to "turn off" during runs (like you were thinking about early on in Level 2 development) so it would be more dangerous as the hazard increases. I may be wrong, but it feels to me like it would be easier to connect the two staircases between levels 1 and 2 rather than extending platforms at the bottoms of each one. At the top, they are on the same level and not that far apart to connect, and it would waste the player's time to run almost all the way back up and through that connection. You also already have the build palette for those corridors, so I would imagine you could knock out connecting them in under an hour. Connecting those two rooms on the right-hand side of the crypt's top floor - even if it's a hazard door - should also help with player and ravager flow problems caused by the zone barrier right at the top of those stairs. EDIT: I actually agree that the jump boost connection between these rooms (as mentioned in another comment) would be even better. I didn't see you ever go back and repair the hole you made at 2:12:00 when you went in to relocate a ravager on level 2, but you may have already taken care of it after stream obviously. Everything looks great! I can't wait to see more hermits running it and all of their reactions!

The delay could also be shortened by factoring in when a player dies in level 2+, since items don't drop in levels the player isn't on. Could be implemented by starting a timer when a player enters a level, indicating the latest than an item could despawn on the previous level (and when a player could get to it). So if you die in level 3, when the timer finishes it is impossible for anyone to reach level 3 (even if you had keys) before the items there despawn (and obviously the higher items will have already despawned). There'd need to be some more logic to deal with people on their way out, but it shouldn't be too complex. This would probably help a lot when people start making longer, deeper runs (and dying a lot).

@@rheklr3195 That may indeed be possible, but it has a large diminishing returns factor when you look at the amount of time it would take to develop, build, troubleshoot, and implement such a system versus the relatively minor payoff in the end. As @ebboplayer said, no point in suggesting anything that would increase the workload at this point - or really even after unless something turns out to be a truly major problem. Fixes should be small and quick to implement with little to no testing needed afterwards.

How about putting a bed right outside in the common area, so when they exit the locker room they can set their spawn immidiately, so they at least spawn in the lobby and don't disturb the other players. :)

@entereloaded to play repeatedly they need to leave the locker room anyway though?? so they can put a frozen shard in to open the iron door. people forgetting to set spawn in the locker room is going to be an occasional problem no matter what. i dont think i really get what youre saying? tbc i am agreeing with the original poster of this comment thread

The bed is in its location because a player needs to press a button to end the game, and the end game button can’t just be in the locker room or great hall area outside, as just about anyone could end the game prematurely. The bed only becomes an issue if a hermit forgets to sleep, and then dies and respawns inside decked out, an event that will likely happen only a few times compared to the number of times DO will be run. Tango had a big thing for a while about this, I don’t think there is a perfect solution if nobody could come up with one in the past several months, plus the game launches in like 36 hours so I doubt such a change can be made

For the cards on the map, I would change the colour of groups of 5 cards to make it really easy to read like a tally. Doing 5 White cards and 5 grey cards alternating would make counting your cards on the map much more intuitive.

2:38:20 I think Zedaph might not be aware of how wardens work. The way he said "I didn't even see him he just appeared," maybe he thought the warden was next to him. Also how he just ran around without sneaking. Either he doesn't know that they find players through sound, and that they have a range attack that goes through blocks, or he was too stressed to think about it.

Possible ways to shorten the timer: - use a pressure plate on the respawn point (that unlocks AFTER pushing the minecart button) so there is no pause after they die since players might delay hitting the button - Set the timer for the minecart, not the locker room, so that the next player can use the reset time preparing and getting ready - all Zeds ideas about timing out the time to get into the dungeon Love the content! Watching this come together is the highlight of the season

Amazing runs, very hyped for Saturday! I think you're kidding yourself a bit if you think a player will have a deck like that in 20 runs though; I'm going to say that's a 100+ runs deck. Heck, Zed did about 10 runs and could have bought a single green card, and that was with a good deck already.

Tango I just gotta give you a huge congrats even before the official launch - this is probably one of the greatest minigames ever created in Minecraft, let alone survival. You should be so proud of what you've accomplished here 😁

I think it would be a nice tweak to enable any keys collected to be treated as coins in the Crown converter - that way there is still a point to picking up duplicates/all items on the way out, plus my perception is that Crowns are going to feel in short supply so anything that gives a little more access to them will be welcomed by the players.

@TangoTek2 in the first run Zedaph triggered 15 shriekers. I think the clank system is working very well, it was just a run without enough clank protection and careless to clank. The only issue perhaps due to Zedaph's sound settings, was that it was very hard to hear the shriekers, their sound mixed totally with the ambience sounds. Saturday will be great, don' t worry, you already succeded! ;)

​@@Speedster___should it? zed only got max clank-ed once or twice, once with a two-card deck. i didnt really see any balancing issues clank-wise in this stream at all honestly. (also, i dont take tango's previously done runs as very emblematic of clank balance, given that he is REALLY bad about not triggering clank and just sits over shriekers sometimes) i could definitely be missing something, but it seemed fairly balanced to me?

This was so amazing to watch! 😂❤ Something occured to me though. Zed took a long time in the Ember Shop, and the game turns off the moment they go through the exit door. So is it possible for someone to still be in the Ember Shop making decisions and purchaces when the game becomes "Available", and someone else might start a run? That feels like that could be an issue, especially on their first few runs when everything is new and they're talking to chat, and other Hermits will be waiting right outside to get in ASAP. Might want to check into that and make sure the next Hermit can't start the next game before the previous Hermit is fully finished and out.

There needs to be two parallel systems: one item timer that is timed to 5 minutes minus the minecart time and can start as soon as the player leaves the active dungeon area; and a second switch that prevents the game becoming available until the player has done something to indicate that they have cleared the entrance area out (like pressing the exit button or taking their stuff, not exactly sure what).

Springboarding off that, it could be as simple as tapping off the comparitor that checks if anything is in the barrel because the shulker is garaunteed to be there before the 5 minute timer runs out and should be removed before the next run. Pseudo code would be: IF ( (DespawnTimer > 0) OR (Barrel contains Deck) ): GameState = Resetting ELSE: GameState = Available

Commenting this as many times as i can! To fix the shuffler, when an ethereal card is drawn, have it add a placeholder item when the ethereal card is drawn. Then a card counter will work, and you can filter the extra item out at the end.

I don't think the shop or death room return lines are dependent on the game being running or not so the items will still get back to the barrel. The shulker of cards returns right when the game ends, so everything should get back for the first hermit to pick up once they day due regardless of whether someone else is already in the game. The only concern would be that the shop might reset when the game turns back on so if they haven't finished making purchases they might not be able to finish that. It shouldn't be too devastating if that happens though since the game should still start fine for the second hermit. They'd also see the previous stuff in the chest above the bed and know the previous person isn't finished yet

One suggestion I'm seeing often is that there should be a "coins for a key" exchange on each level. Congrats on a working game :)

An idea I had to improve the "reset" timer, what about dropping an item through cobwebs that takes roughly 4'30". If these cobwebs are visible behind glass next to the indicator lights, hermits can physically see the timer moving.

I'll get home from a music gig around 1am Sunday morning (Australia). 10am Saturday PST (Arizona) is 4am Sunday here....... I think I'm not going to bed tonight! I can't wait to watch hermits playing DO for real. Watching Zed play was such fun. Congratulations Tango! You deserve every accolade people give you.

I think it would be cool if the artifact pickup sound could be heard by the waiting hermits in the hall, gives them something to be excited about

For key distribution, if you're camera account renders it in, have a 24 hour timer to dispense keys in every hermits black box, so the hermits can play once per day, or save keys and then they can do a few runs at once. This also makes it so you dont have to manually give everyone keys.

Zed did something really interesting, he learned from his mistakes. He dies to clank, so he shifts, plays it slow, and gets out alive. I think that’s going ti define the best players at this game

Hi Tango, in the main room where you enter your decked out key it looks like you could have the same issue with the flaming bats and the snow pillars. However, the flames might be protected by the pillar. If so, you could possibly replicate that design in the final card room so that you can still have flames there.

Hey Tango! Massive props to you for pulling this off. DO2 is going to be incredible. I was there during the livestream and took some notes for you on a couple things I didn't see mentioned. You might wanna double-check these before release if you haven't already! 1. On the run where Zed wins level 2, the last card purchase didn't make a sound... I know it's possible it was just the game music disc limit but perhaps it's worth double checking there isn't anything wrong there. It was one of the common cards. 2. The moment of clarity cards in the ember shop don't appear to be formatted consistent with the ones you were giving out to people's starting decks. Specifically, they were missing the yellow color in the item name. 3. I'm not sure about the specifics of when the game marks itself as available in the case of a win (is it just 5 minutes after the player exits the dungeon) or does it also consider whether they have left the ember shop. The reason being, if it's the former, what happens to the shop if someone is still in there when the next person finishes their run? Perhaps worth checking to make sure the dungeon isn't made available until 5 minutes have passed AND the player has left the shop. I had others but I think you were already made aware of most of them. Nice work again, looking forward to Saturday! :D

For the speedrunner card, an alternate functionality if it’s too difficult to unlock both doors to levels 2 and 3 for a reward could be that it unlocks the door to level 3 for 5 minutes. This means a player has to speed run at least level 1 and can mostly skip level 2. Perhaps a shorter time is necessary

I hope cards aren't too expensive given the same currency is used to buy victory tomes. Zed's "successful" runs were with 25 cards. Say 15 common cards were purchased at an average 7 embers. 105 embers is 4 or 5 wins at easy/medium? That's not counting the other more impactful cards. His hard run artifact was 25 embers, I think? I obviously don't know the value of all the artifacts, but at 5 runs a week, 3 wins if you're good... I know Tango wants the game to be hard, but is there a point where it's demoralizing?

@@benhuntsman6753 That's how the game is supposed to work. Don't you remember decked out 1? You never or almost never got level 3 cards from just the completion, that took strategy, luck, and punching out soul flames, meaning that to get better cards, you needed a healthy amount of soul seeker in your deck. Frost embers are the replacement for soul flames in 2, and likewise, they're not meant to be something primarily gained from completion, but from prioritizing them in the dungeon. On runs like Zed's where he wasn't prioritizing progression because he was just testing, he's not gonna always get tons of embers, but there are so many cards that give so many embers that when players like Etho start playing, they'll understand those are what to prioritize, so that they can make their runs count

My perspective is coming from the casual player that could tap out after a couple weeks because they're not seeing progression. Again, if that's the intent, success. I wouldn't want after months of work for hermits to not play or include DO2 content through all the phases. There was a huge deck buff from 2 cards to 25 cards during Zed's testing. He was still struggling immensely with level 2 runs.

The flaming bat problem could also be a problem on the scoreboard, if snowlayers can melt. I don't know about that tbh. Maybe cover the flames with glass if it doesn't mess up the optics. Can't wait for the release, keep up the great work and positivity

Just finished Zed's stream vid and am starting this one. What you have created here is unparalleled. As a longtime enthusiast of all kinds of games and technical feats in Minecraft, I really can't think of anything that comes close.

I am going to try to drop in on any stream you do today (Friday) with this suggestion, but figured dropping it here may get it to you… The ready to play lockout should be an extra 30 seconds short (so 4 minutes) and start a supplemental 30 second timer that blocks the start of the minecart so people can get into the locker room and put away stuff, select difficulty, submit their deck, but on their game face and then go… but they can’t rush through all that and find leftover treasure… most people will use that 30 seconds so it will reduce wait time by you taking advantage of it too. This would NOT be 30 seconds from when the frozen shard goes in, just from when the ready to play light comes on. Also be prepared for extremely short runs… a hopper clock that needs to drain back and takes 4 minutes to do so may not finish draining before an unlucky soul dies in decked out… Well done Tango, looking forward to the plays… (Also you just finished building the ultimate chunk loader… throw a basic iron farm in a tower or something!) and I still say a 30 minute timer that starts when the game goes ready and resets when the game is played and gives out a free key would help the hermits play more if they want to play more but self throttle…

In terms of "keys per week", I think you want to target at LEAST 3 wins per week, Baseline. At current rate of about 20% success, that means 15 keys per week baseline, plus extra for the tome winners and shop buyers and etc. I do also think 2-3 runs per day feels pretty fair, or 3 days of "5-run" goes. If you increase it to 70% success, then the 5 keys per week baseline may work, but you're not at that balance point yet. It feels super unsatisfying to have Less Than 1 run per day and those 1 runs are 3 mins and dead except for 1 lucky day.

if you delay how quick the bottom dungeon doors slide open (the ones after the cart ride) that could give you more time for the game to get started fully before players enter. you could also delay the compass and map so that theyre given to the player at the same time pork chop power at the bottom of a full 40 card deck would be given

@@nobodyimportant8778 players arent going to realize that for awhile. just seeing it closed in front of them will likely slow them down for just long enough for the game to really get going. even if they figure out they can walk through it they might even choose not to as it breaks immersion

Hey tango, just gonna write this all as one big comment to summarise everything i found. So first off, chillstep is busted for two major reasons: 1)It doesnt give 2 treasure for a sneak card, it gives 2 treasure PER CLANK BLOCKED after a sneak card has been played. 2)It doesnt seem to reset between rounds. Evidence for 1): -At 1:24:20 ish zed blocks two clank in a row, and gains 4 treasure (2 treasure twice) -this happens a lot more in runs after, even when chill step hadnt been played yet (2) -sneak cards are played with no treasure added (1:23:30 ish) Evidence for 2: -After you realised chill step was busted and removed it, at about 1:44:00 the same issues happened again in the deck - in the first point of previous evidence, no chill step card had been played in that run Overall conclusion; Chillstep busted af My assumption for the problem is that you have the chillstep output connected to the sneak output for one reason or another. But, it should be chillstep output connected to sneak input. Im not sure about the not resetting between runs, but maybe check its connected and ejecting properly? And not running through the system one more time before leaving. Also, the stumble issue is likely due to a similar issue of the dungeon not being turned off fully, if its left on, stumble cards will slowly be fed into the deck. That in turn fills the next deck coming in, and only affects that one deck. (Hence the issue last stream, where there was TONNES of extra stumbles) and you couldnt replicate it. Hopefully this helps! Your streams are always great and i love watching them ^^

@1:45:00 - You have a lot of hazard in that area already. Zed ran into that room as both of the other hazard's were already triggered. Relying on a card to escape doom on level 1 is a cruel, I'd just open the passage and make it an always open route. The other levels you can be a bit more cruel. :)

Tango, you never cease to amaze me, and Decked Out is mindblowing, but these Zedaph runs might just be the best thing ever! I cannot WAIT for the Hermits to get eaten alive inside DO2!!!! ALSO, you HAVE to teach some other people to be Dungeon Master so you can go play hockey and SLEEP!!!!

Instead of slowing the minecart or speeding the pork chops, just divert them into a crate inside the early cave. Put a sign over it that says 'pork chops' By the time people are able to get the card, they will be very familiar with that crate and will already have put together that that's where they pork chop pick up is.

A thought I had for a card to potentially more consistently help with both food (seems to be a very constant issue on the deeper runs and will only get worse as you need to go deeper [3-4]) and early treasure to assist with getting to the lower floors. Luck of the Rabbit (permanent) Start with 1-2 carrots Add 2 Treasure Generate 2 Hazard/Clank (Either or both, this is the main balancing out point I could think of since it would need to be a permanent card) Just something to maybe consider. Could also potentially use a card to offer raw cod/rabbit. It would be an ok couple pieces of food or the clever among them could use any campfires that may be in the dungeon to cook them. This requires using the time to cook which will be generating hazard/clank. Could also generate some from the card. You could also intentionally place campfires in some of the dead end areas to entice people to go there as a result. Either way, thank you for all the amazing content and super excited to see what comes out of this :)

I loved this stream! DO2 still has a few (tiny) hickups, but the gameplay is there! Loved how the traps work, mobs doing their thing AND how quick a player realises it's all about the cards :) Looking forward to grand opening! Grts N3rdy77

Congrats Tango! What a major accomplishment! Today's runs felt like a pretty much polished product for us viewers. It was so much fun to watch from both your and Zed's perspectives. I can't wait to play myself on the world download (and on TC with TOLS :p). I'm curious though. Since the reset timer is running while the hermit is in the ember shop, could there be a potential edge case bug if a player takes long enough in the shop for another hermit to start a run? Would that mess anything up for either the shopper or the active runner?
