@@londy3127 I don't like categorising Grian as chaotic evil (CE) - I think they're both CN, but Grian moreso, whereas Zed has (more of) a CG lean. None of the hermits ever mean to be mean to each other even when they do prank them. They're all having fun and helping each other have fun, so that exempts any hermit from an evil alignment. @@londy3127 fair enough. I overreacted a little to the use of "Evil", i guess. Idk if invoking murder is very Evil in terms of minecraft, where life and death are as fleeting as night and day - both moreso when you have a bed. Demise is probably the most "evil" you can get, though - the amount of people who lost their items to lava during that is probably high. And, yes, I'm still overthinking this.

It should also be noted that if there's weather (rain, etc.) that will affect the light levels your sun system will see. On a rainy day the daylight sensor's output will never reach 15. For a system like this, to deal with things like the "sunset" light staying on when someone sleeps through the night: I think the way I would deal with that would be to have each sun position activated by a transition between light levels (i.e the third sun position is activated by the daylight sensor transitioning from power level 2 to power level 3 - regardless of which sun position was previously lit), and any time a sun position is activated, it de-activates all the other ones. The clock system might then lag a bit if it's been unloaded, but as soon as it gets a new transition it would snap to the correct position. (Right now it seems each sun position is triggered by the current signal strength, and the prior sun position, rather than the current signal strength, and the prior signal strength.) Though due to the weather issues, it might be better to use a daylight sensor to tell you when sunrise or sunset occurs, and then a hopper clock or something to get you the sun positions in between sunrise and sunset. That way the clock would perform (almost) the same regardless of weather. But then it would need to be re-synchronized when it gets out of sync... That could be complicated.

To fix the last lamp staying on after people sleep you could hook up a reset line from the morning lamp that that will not only turn on that lamp but turn off the one that's not supposed to be on. it would also not be a problem if the night went through.

14:26 - I made something (somewhat) similar in my world, I call it the "signal tuning guide". On Bedrock a book like this needs 30 pages instead of 15, though, or else you can't get all 15 signal levels from it. Also instead of writing a story each page just lists the signal strength, and other methods of producing the same signal strength using hoppers or barrels or whatever. So a little more mundane but still useful.

I took some time to try and build a system to address some of the problems you discussed at the end and I came up with this: imgur.com/gallery/KnqAuFC Still can momentarily be confused after a time jump, but it is designed to correct itself as soon as it can and for most jumps (those that don't look like valid changes) it will turn everything off until it figures out what's going on.

Since you can reset the system with a button you could take a second output on whatever signal strength is output at the Suns position after someone sleeps. Run it through a monostable circuit to convert it to a pulse and feed it into where you would have pressed the button. From how you were showcasing it I'm pretty sure that would function as an auto debug for the clock. Also I am loving the Cave of Contraptions! Convoluted questionably useful redstone is best redstone!
@Krixwell
@Krixwell 4 жыл бұрын
I think the easiest way to deal with the sleep issue is to hook up the first sun that lights up in the morning to the lagging sun at the other end so that the morning sun automatically disables the evening sun. Might need to dig a redstone line under the main base area.
@confused47
@confused47 4 жыл бұрын
Great episode again, Zed! You could add a reset signal from all the modules to all the others which will pulse when one of the lights turns on. You'd obviously need to block the "current" module from getting a reset signal from itself so that it doesn't immediately turn off! That way, you'd only have one of the modules out of sync for a short period of time. However, that wouldn't be terribly inefficient, so maybe a manual button you have to press every time might be the better choice!

In the center. Hook a daylight sensor to a signal strength selector circuit (usually used with item frames) and run redstone to each lamp. Only one will be on at a time and it will jump to the appropriate one in spite of chunk loading.

hey, i have a really good idea for when you guys update the nether. once the shopping district is all full and you need more room to build shops or if you just want to build in the nether then have another “shopping district” but in the nether. have the center of the shopping district in the nether the same as the center of the shopping district in the over world. or sense there is going to be a lot of portals next to each other have a type of elevator going up to the top of the nether next to the shopping district portal and have the nether shopping district up there

I'm pretty sure there is some sort of redstone latch that allows you to store a signal strength value. You can detect the signal strength changing with an observer --> current value becomes previous value, then update the current value. You could then compare[ator] the current signal strength against the previous one and determine if the sun is rising or falling (a > b or a < b). That way even if your sun does break, it will correct itself within a minecraft "hour"

You could make a mechanism that kills the villager with a zombie so you can save it making the villagers trades go really far down

You could talk to Impulse or Tango for more bells if you need them since they have villagers of their own already. I think switching the daylight sensor to and from the night setting should work. Alternatively, a single button that overrides all of the subtracting comparators which should reset each of them.

Turning your entire base into a giant unnecessary clock? Exactly what I subscribed for. PS It looked like at least one of your comparators was sitting on a grass block, but I couldn't tell for sure. There's a slight chance that an Enderman will take that block and break the circuit.

you need a reset line coming from the one sun that does light after sleep so it will auto press the button you plan on putting in this would fix that one light that stays on when it shouldnt

Great videos! Just a to for your clock, when the first sun powered up, it can send the signal to the dropper that get broken when someone sleeps. Hope this helps :D

The easier way for a rising/sinking sun detector would be to activate an rs flipflop when the sun reaches its zenith with a power of 15. all redstone lamps until then need 2 conditions: 1 that this rs flipflop must be off and 2 the signal from the sun detector panel. and the lamps for the sinking sun would need as a second condition that the rs is on. that activated flipflop can be reset by the output of a solar panel, which has its highest output at midnight. (which would be 11) so when the sun rises again, the system is back again in its normal state. but nevertheless it is a genius contraption and idea zedaph made there. :)

Many of your fellow hermits have converted the bell selling villagers, so the bells would be exceedingly cheap, also emeralds are sold in the cowmercial district. That being said I enjoyed the bell hunt :D

11:00 your circuit here is essentially an RS-NOR latch, reset with a monostable pulse.

If you can design something that elaborate, compact and complicated just take these mechanics to make it more durable: composters can be pushed by pistons and can give the 1-15 pulse from a comparator. And you can invert the nighttime chain and add a t flip flop to the nighttime circuit which will make sure it doesn’t need to fire

That's pretty dope. Idea for the moon version: Why not place the lamp behind some grey glass? This will make it more dim then the sun version. Hopefully making it more obvious at a glance. Great work. Peace.

Zed, I know you love red stone, but you can also add a giant glass semi circle strip, so you can literally see the sun and moon rise and set (since it’s always in the same place)

I'm glad I started watching straight from the hermitcraft website because KZbin hadn't recommended Zedaph to me. Love the videos and the cave of contraptions. I know it a little thing too, but this is easily the best intro of all the Hermits. Not that its a competition...right?

Even if villagers demand a large number of emeralds for a bell - there is a shop in the shopping district that sells emeralds for pretty cheap. Might be worth considering if you need something from villagers in the future.

There are a few problems with detecting the moon aswell. Because the night sensor is stuck at signal strength 11 for about 90% of the night. Also the power of the moon increases and decreases simultaneously with the sunrise and sunset. I have actually build a clock detecting the sun myself^^' but it works a little differently, without the bugs that your clock has. My clock reads the daylight sensor and puts out a signal for each signal strengh (total of 15). Also it seperates morning and afternoon. So it has 30 different outputs, always detecting the path of the sun :D but its a rather large redstone build^^

You could send an underground signal from the rising sun module that would trigger the dropper on the last falling sun module to force a reset of it when the rising one turns on.
