Man its so cool seeing items moving and being flung around, love it. For the randomiser you could use the storage system idea spit one of every item out into a bubble column to shuffle the items and then run hopper minecarts through it to pick up 5 (one extra for safe keeping/ could be handled easily with an extra line or unloader). Then the minecart gets loaded into a dispenser that will shoot out four of those items in a random order for the lanes, these are run through a hopper chain with crafters with only 1 slot available below to take one item for each lane. I think that would work or that's just me overengineering it :).

I suggest two Droppers per lane, use a Dropper-Hopper randomizer to select which to fire. To sort the items back, just have 1-2 Hoppers per Dropper and fill every slot the with the different ingredients. The hoppers will pick the returning items from a water stream whenever they fit. You have refill regularly to make sure no stack runs empty, though.
@steindavidbАй бұрын
To get a uniform random larger than nine, think module arithmetic! Lots of cool options: If you don’t care about space: you can generate a random n-digit number in base 9 (or smaller) using N dispensers. Put nine differently-full shulkers in each dispenser, each dispenser picks one “digit.” Eg. You have 20 items, arrange them in a 4x5 grid of hoppers. Dispenser 1 unlocks a random row, dispensor 2 unlocks a random column. Easy to debug, can pick an item every 5 redstone ticks. If you need to compact: multiple dispensers fire once into a central dispenser. At least two redstone ticks later fire the central dispenser. Uniform random because dispensers each pick a candidate “digit” in the one’s place, central dispenser picks the higher-order digit. Important to wait before firing central dispenser or else update order messes with randomness. Or mix and match: e.g., dispenser with (sword, pearl, stick) picks one of three dispensers at random.

You could build a station that loads a shulker that holds one of each item then move that shulker to a chamber to unload the items and used droppers to randomly drop items into the water streams. This way you could guarantee every item every X items so you don’t have to wait forever. This way you can also change the the ratios of each item in each lane so in red lane you could have a chance of getting red stone more often or something like that. I would also add a screen or something that gives you a hint on how to make a certain potion is brewed so you don’t have to remember all the recipes.

@pinaz993Ай бұрын
Two stage randomizer. First. you start by randomizing which ingredients make it to the second stage; each ingredient has a certain chance to be picked. Sometimes, you may have more than 9 contenders, so you'll need an overflow system for that. Then, of the 9 or less (possibly less than four) choices you get for ingredients, you just use a dropper to randomly choose 4 ingredients (now guaranteed to all be different, because you dispensed either 0 or 1 of each possible ingredient), and send them one each to the streams. This approach has the additional benefit of making the chance of an ingredient appearing configurable for each ingredient. You may want, for example, redstone, glowstone, and gunpowder to be more common than rabbit's foot.
@honeydaisiesАй бұрын
This is looking so incredible!! I imagine there could be a way to designate lanes to certain parts of the brewing process and make a selection interface that changes out what materials are loaded into the lanes. Perhaps this could be done using hopper minecarts that operate during game set-up, or shulker unloaders? Maybe even to really game-ify it, having a couple items in one lane, such as having redstone dust and glowstone within the same lane so you can really mess up what you're going for!

If you just default to nether wart, you can brew all potions with the exception of weakness iirc. Then, a player can select whatever ingredients they like without worrying about warting it up first, or maybe even just default to the potions with nether wart already brewed in. Also, you could dispense an item to the viewing lanes while at the same time dispensing an item to the launchers, making it so that they both show at the same time so you can have that gaming reflex experience. Finally, maybe make three or so lanes for ingredients and one lane for modifiers? make it a different colour glass to distinguish it from the regular lanes. You'll only have to shoot gunpowder, redstone, glowstone, spider eyes and dragon's breath through these which makes the randomizing a lot easier if nothing else and people will know where to look when they have their ingredients and just wish to modify the end product.

I was intrigued by the problem of randomising the output of the items, so I looked at it as a mathematical problem. Looking at the Minecraft wiki, I saw that, if you disregard blaze powder and water bottles, as these will be input automatically into the system, there are 19 brewing ingredients that will need to be dispensed randomly into batches of 9 items (to account for the dropper inventory) across 4 lanes of the game. I'm struggling to think of how these could be randomised into batches of 9 items as there are so many variables but I'm sure it would involve randomly sorting the items into shulker boxes and having them unloaded into the droppers. Hope this helps.
@weaselgamertv9904Ай бұрын
Thinking further on this if you had 19 chests (1 for each item) feeding a series of 4 droppers, as each dropper can be fed from 5 sides and still allow the front face to be clear. That in turn randomly fills a shulker box with 9 items, which can be unloaded into the droppers for each lane.
@sibylline2172Ай бұрын
I love the Combrewters, glad to see they're back! I wonder if the best way to randomly select an item for each stream would be via shulker box? Pack them up and when you turn it on, it randomly grabs a box for each channel - not sure about the build of that, but I think it could work!
@MajesticMemeticАй бұрын
Droppers to randomise, the items in cobwebs so you can slowly see them falling (like Tetris in where you know the next block coming), but that won't help you... as they fall onto trap doors/blocks which open/retract at random times and is hidden from view. or all the items are flowing around on an ice track and hoppers randomly unlocks to take an item if more than one item is selected the additional items are tossed back onto the track.
@amaryllis0Ай бұрын

@SkirakzalusАй бұрын
I just had a go at the randomiser/distribotorificator and have to say that's a tough nut to crack. The storage system isn't the big problem, just some item sorters and a row of chests for every ingredient. It's easy to pull out one of each at a time by having hoppers below each chest and unblocking them when the main part of the system is empty (also makes sure that you get each item an equal amount). From there I have two sets of droppers. The single main one will determine where each item lands, but there's 3 before that to randomise when they each go into the main one. After that I use a chest minecart to split the items between the lanes, but to do so equally I need to fill in exactly 8 at a time, and sometimes I get 9 for some reason. I tried using a crafter as a container, blocking a slot and taking the output when it's full, but sometimes another item still enters when it shouldn't. Besides that the whole thing isn't fast enough right now, but that can hopefully be helped.
@ICCDZАй бұрын
Use the randomizer in the first phase of Cleo's game. You use a dropper in series (2 times or more) to surpass the 9 limit, and then just fill them up to capacity. For the 3 lane, any extra lane would be cucumbersome. So just map a max of 16 ingredientes divided by 4 lanes, 4 ingredientes in each lane. The extra part would be forcing each lane to have "different ingredients", I mean... if you don't want to have repeated ingredients in more than one lane. I haven't thought that far ahead.
@ryanchasen5419Ай бұрын
if you want to have all the potion ingredients, there are 18 of them, which is a multiple of 9, which could be helpful: Blaze Powder Dragon's Breath Fermented Spider Eye Ghast Tear Glistering Melon Glowstone Dust Golden Carrot Gunpowder Magma Cream Nether Wart Phantom Membane Pufferfish Rabbit's Foot Redstone Dust Spider Eye Sugar Turtle Shell Helmet Water Bottle
@DuskkitАй бұрын
Stone, slimeballs, and cobwebs are now potion ingredients too. So 21, which splits evenly into but does not fill 3 dispensers. Shears to fill the last slots, and then ingredient refill can be done easily enough with hoppers, as long as the water bottle and turtle helmet don't go in the same dispenser. Just lock the other inputs for a second after each dispensing so the unstackable gets the first chance to fill back in. Or it might be fun to not have an equal chance of every ingredient.
@malusdraco3793Ай бұрын
okay so some thoughts: - the ~3 seconds lag between when you see things and when they actually get shot out is a big deal, i think it would probably be way too hard to keep track of when the next item you'd need is actually coming, which i'd think would be more frustrating than fun -having EVERYTHING go through all lanes worsens problem #1 (and also makes it a lot harder on you) consider instead breaking up the items into four groups and assigning each group a lane- an easy example is anything that will modify a potion in one group, things that can be used as secondary ingredients in another group, etc. an analog to rhythm games would be like, different instrument voices being on different lanes. if you keep the groups to 9 or fewer items, you could just use the dropper and call it a day. plus, then the items WOULD still be randomized, while not being all the way randomized OR you could have everything be in a set order, so someone would need to be familiar with WHEN certain items show up in the pattern in order to actually brew the right potion. this to me sounds MUCH harder to do, but also tracks much more with a rhythm game if you want to push it that route. a last thought- since you already have the floor plates, you could have the floor plates control it directly as the items get to a certain spot. (think the end of the lane in guitar hero) also, you need a song! it's not really a rhythm game without a song! even if it's not on beat i think it'd be a nice touch.
@zeekjones1Ай бұрын
To have more random items, just have multiple droppers feed in to the one below. Two upper droppers would hold 18 items randomized, each takes turns firing after the bottom one fires. Bottom>top 1>bottom>top 2>bottom>top 1... A copper bulb, or flip-flop could switch the top ones back and forth You could in theory have several more on the upper row, switching would need to get more complicated though.

For the randomizing of the items, you could run the collecting area to 1 boat with a chest that sits on top of 4 hoppers that go to the 4 different dispensers.
@Razsiel89Ай бұрын
For the randomizer/mixificator; why not use a chain-loop of dispensers (like the old-school transfer lines) that get quickly pulsed a few times between each "hajah!" (or maybe even constantly) and the lanes have locked hoppers that get unlocked for just a single item every 'beat'. The hoppers will obviously take the first available item in the dropper above it, but it should constantly randomize everything. Just based on intuitive timing I think you can get 6, maybe 7 pulses between each hajah
@moontravellerjulАй бұрын
a system similar to your create series factory loop might work well for combrewter randomisation! my idea is that there would be a bank of item filters, and each time an ingredient is collected in the filter, a new one is dispensed into circulation, then a pulse extender for that filter is powered. while the pulse extender is powered, it stops new copies of the item from being dispensed, to regulate the amount of that item currently in the system. (so if the pulse extender is still powered when another copy of that item enters the filter, it won't dispense a new one, since the system detected that item recently passing through, and thus assumes there is enough in the loop.) this system should take care of regulating and replenishing ingredients, and then you just need a randomiser before the ingredients get put through the flinger!

About how you would randomise more than 9 items. My immediate thought was have the items split between two droppers and have another randomiser decide between those two droppers. The other randomiser could be a dropper that can either dispense a stackable or nonstackable item and a comparator reads the output, because I believe comparators read different signal strengths depending on whether the block its reading has a full stack or not, and nonstackables are a full stack.
@iamsushi1056Ай бұрын
My idea for the randomizer would be an allay for each item, and then you dispense an item and then fire one of four note blocks to send the allays there. That way you can have as many droppers as you want to randomly select the next ingredient, and then just fire those off.

This is noticeably more complex, but I had the idea that you tell the system what you want to brew (just like in the previous versions). Then, preferably the necessary ingredients, but still randomly, are thrown across the room. However, the trapdoor is smart enough that only the correct ingredients in the right order are allowed. If, in theory, a wrong item is grabbed from the air, you lose points or something like that - this brings it a bit closer to Guitar Hero, where you also have to hit the correct "notes," but can't really make mistakes.

I have an idea for how you could set up the randomisation, I can't get on rn to prototype it, but it should be functional. There are (as of the latest update) 21 different items that you can use for brewing potions. Splitting off Nether Wart, Redstone Dust, and Glowstone dust for the moment (I will come back to that for a reason) leaves 18 items, perfect for a 2 dropper system. Taking the flung items as the input and funnel them into a hopper minecart that positioned on top of 2 droppers that are filled with the 18 different items. This will be the main randomiser. Make the two droppers in the main randomiser be powered by a 50/50 randomiser (whatever design works in the space) giving all 18 items an equal chance to be picked. The 4 items will be sent down a water stream to the lanes, have hoppers under the water stream that will lock while an item is in it's hopper so that each lane gets only 1 of the 4 items. When that batch of 4 is sent, 4 more random items will be requested. As for the other 3 items, I chose to separate because it means the main randomiser can be much more simple, and because those would the most commonly needed items for a potion (or maybe gunpowder?), so by placing them in their own dropper you can use another 50/50 randomiser (or any ratio you like) so that for each of the 4 pulses that select items it can either select something from the main randomiser, or this side one. This lets you set how often you see those few important items and avoid standing around for 10 minutes while you wait for the nether wart you need to actually show up and start the brewing. Hope that helps and feel free to ask questions if anything I said was unclear :D

The game can then dispense a shulker when ever it needs more items and never need to wait for the randomiser. edit: The jumble box of shulkers could work like an older brewing-on-demand system: the jumbler system would activate and start "brewing" new sets of jumbled items when ever the barrel of jumbled items is not "full". You will need ~2 shulkers to start the system another 2 to have a chance to brew one potion and so while you probably wont need 27 shulkers of pre-jumbled items it wouldn't hurt to have that many so the comBREWter game can be played longer.

Well. thinking about it. Sorting would probobly end up involving a full scale sorting system I can't really think of a way around that. For randomizing I think the way to do things would be to have items that are coming out of the sorting system to be less that 1 stack of each in the system to avoid issues then you could output the sorting system to 2 water streams that would lead into 2 droppers that drop into a hopper that then goes and puts the items in your weird guitar hero style sytem. Then you just have to work out a varietion that let's the 1 channel system I have described go to 4 channels without weird bottlenecks. Further note you are now going to have to use this system while playing minecraft on a guitar hero controller at some point.

How random is random enough? And do you even need to sort the items? And here are three random ideas: 1. You could use a loop of rail with chest minecarts to pitck up incoming items and deposit them into randomizers 2. You could give each item unique names so that they don't clutter up into stacks 3. You could use randomly ordered chest minecarts each full of a specific item

RE: The Randomiser - speak to Tango, he had similar concepts during Decked Out 2 last season! Great episode Z.

the s8 combrewter was the reason i started watching zedaph, so im so excited to see it return!

For the randomizer: you should ask X. He helped Tango last season for the Decked out with a randomizer that can go through more than 10 items with hopper minecarts.

I don't know how to sort the items but this DOES make me think a bit of Mumbo's dance dance revolution game and wonder if you could build something like that with this 🤔

I like how in hermitcraft you have people who are builders, and people who do redstone, and then you have people who have mastered the craft of pure Minecraft entertainment like zed

Seems to me like you'll have to make the preview and the actual fling two different sets of items so that the player can actually prepare. Asking for memorization of three rows seems like a lot, plus they wouldn't know which items are coming for several rows that got previewed while they were looking up to catch the flung ones
