This song always reminds me of the girl I loved. We started off as friends for about a year or so, and eventually started dating. I remember we connected over our love for music, particularly when it came to Paramore. If you met her, it wouldn't be hard to see that she was a genuinely kind, loving, and funny person with a heart that cared so much about people, that I still, to this day, believe that the world does not deserve a wonderful person like her. This song came out around the same time we started to date, and we'd play this on our car rides going pretty much wherever we wanted. Some days we'd belt it out in the car, and laugh at our bad singing. Other days, some times on our not-so-great days, we'd still play the song on those car rides home in silence. Either way, it became one of those things that just, without thinking, became a part of our normal routine. The first time I heard it though, I knew I loved her. There weren't a lot of things I was sure or solidified on, in my convictions, but I knew that I did feel a great love for someone that I never had felt before that moment. On some of those car rides, we'd stop to eat at a fast food restaurant or a place we've heard about and wanted to visit. Usually if they gave straws for our drinks, she would carefully extract the straw out of the paper wrapper and fold the wrapper into a three dimensional star and give them to me. I kept them in my glove compartment to remember the number of dates we've been on. Eventually, she saw where I kept them, and by this time, I had accumulated enough that it would just spill out. She bought a jar for me to keep them all, and after awhile it started getting close to being halfway full. A year into our relationship, I already knew how I wanted to eventually propose to her. On some anniversary, when the jar will, at some point, be too full to hold any more of these paper stars, I'd count them with her to see how many memories we've made, even if we may not remember all the places we've been. Towards the bottom of the jar would be the ring and I would have proposed right then and there. It's corny, cheesy, I get it. Most romantic things are. There are memories you can make with people even if they may not have been particularly remarkable or memorable, and I believe that over time in a relationship, they start to blend in and not matter as much as when you first begin getting to know one another. It's not to say that we love anyone less, but the security in knowing that the love is present, makes us blind to understand that without maintenance and attention, that love won't be around forever. Words were exchanged, and eventually things dwindled away. Still, I've always wanted the best for her, because her happiness means that she can find a love in her life that I wasn't able to give. She's engaged now, and in retrospect, I'm just happy that we were able to be in each others' lives at the time that we met. Still, this song instantly takes me back to those long car rides, and the best and worst memories to come with that.

Crazy how they nailed the aesthetics of this version as well as the original. The contrast of the black and white and the concert scenes fit so well with the acoustic version of the song. Also, I like how there are very subtle "mistakes" in the song, such as hitting the wrong note in the piano, or in the singing. Very small mistakes, but it really makes the song "human" and much more relatable.
