I got sick with COVID a bit over a year ago. It affected me neurologically in a pretty severe way where I was left unable to think, speak, read, or remember anything for at least 9 months. I am now much improved but still struggling to navigate this new world of diminished cognitive ability I find myself in. As I am finally, slowly re-entering my PhD program (in a social science) and having to re-learn all my statistics, I am constantly running into the limitations of these new cognitive disabilities. Nothing, and I truly mean nothing, has worked for me until I found these videos. I can't thank you enough for making them. It feels like I can finally hold on to these concepts for the first time in a long time. Thank you so much for making me feel like I can actually manage to re-learn statistics and finish my PhD. It is a gift.

It would be nice if the trainer also explains that many professors call what the trainer calls here as SSR as SSE and vice versa. In those cases, SSE is the Explained Sum of Squares and SSR is the Residual Sum of Squares.

@@ashishk81 The statement can still be true. In 2 minutes, they understood what took the teacher over a week. Say it was exactly one week as an easier example: Then in 4 minutes it would be the equivalent of 2 weeks with their teacher. In 8 minutes it would equate to 4 weeks. As "Vis o length is 15 min" it means it would have taken their teacher over 7.5 weeks. Maybe you should learn statistics ;) lol
@EmilParkour3 жыл бұрын
@@ashishk81 Also, just for lolz, I watch tutorials at 2 times speed and i skip to the next part when I've understood the current concept, since there is often repetition or examples. Thanks heaps for this series mate. I'm taking a course (Data Analysis for social scientists) from MIT and it's so bad that I'd almost given up. I usually write down the concepts in a notebook and try to make sense of things. But it wasn't working for that course. This has helped a lot more than those taught by Nobel prize winning instructors! No offense to them but your content is a lot easier to follow and understand the intuition behind it all. I'll attempt that course again after going through your material. I can never thank you enough. Hope things are better in Sydney. We're under stage 4 curfew here in Melbourne. Good time to gain some knowledge. Hopefully I can contribute to the community in future. Cheers mate.

Hey I came across your comment and was just curious. How did the rest of the class go?
@jaypod2 жыл бұрын
@@PunmasterSTP hey.. yeah, the course was okayish. I was probably a bit too harsh in my original comment. But given a chance I wouldn't do it again. If someone is a complete beginner the course is going to be overwhelming as it covers a lot of stuff but only at a very shallow level. If someone already knows these stuff then they might gain some value out of it. It doesn't teach R either and expects students to know how to program in R before starting the course. Depends on what you're trying to achieve. I liked the Machine Learning course. The Probability and the Statistics courses are amazing. But they're very theoretical and teach the mathematics and intuition behind those formulae and even derive many of those. I'm looking forward to the Python Data Analysis course this May. It's replacing the Data Analysis for social scientists course!

Hey SSaB, thanks for the comment. Check my reply to Sachin's comment below (as he had the same problem). It might be an Australian/American difference, but depending on what E and R stand for, the meanings might be reversed. My advice? Never just write SSE and SSR. It's one of the more annoying inconsistencies in stats - so always take pains to explicitly what the letters stand for (in someone elses explanation, as with your own work!). Hope that clears it up!
