Leo Lembo I’m using a bit of an older build, I can shoot 2240 x 1080 10bit raw continuous as much as I want with no problem. I can shoot 2560 x 1080 10bit raw for about 30 seconds which enough for the shots I do. And I can shoot 3008 x 1080 10bit raw for about 13 seconds. The CF I’m using is a 64gb Lexar 1066x 160MB/s

Great video. I did some work with ML and its various versions. The thing is there are so many settings that I doubt I ever got them correct. Thanks for this video, maybe I will try it again with hopefully better results. One really great thing about the 5DII is that the focus screen can be changed. I know I can zoom in using 'liveview,' but it is hard to see out in the sun. I prefer to manually focus using the viewfinder. And I like using vintage lenses like the Minolta Rokkors. ANYWAY, thanks for this video. Great job.

Hey, yeah it's continuous. You can record for as long as the battery lasts or the CF Card @10/12 Bit. 14 Bit, it's about 20 seconds.

Depends how long you record. 400mbs for about 15 or so seconds. Once you upscale in post it will be more. But I just use HDD or SSD Drives to export them to, so it's peanuts. My BMPCC 4K is much worse.

Cheaper, gets the job done. I prefer the Eos m body type and compactness. I sold the 5D3 a while back in favour of the M. I then wanted to taste full frame again and so I got the 5D2, which looks the same as the 5D3 apart from the minor aliasing.

My build is in the description on my Google Drive available for Download :) The ML Website ain't the best, developers use separate repository's sometimes to update the builds before they become nightly builds. For the Builds to playback in camera, I believe it is in the ML Website for the 5D2 and you need to download older builds e.g. 2017/2018 for the 5D2 which should have playback. Hey Zeek, awesome development of your channel! Congrats! I´m also thinking about backing up the EOS M with a 5D MKII or III for ML. I read that the picture is pretty much identical on MK II in comparison to MK III if you are using a VAF anti-aliasing filter on the mk II. If not you would encounter aliasing and moire... can you confirm that? Do you have a filter installed on the mk II? Thanks a lot for your opinion on that. If not true the MKII of course seems like a pretty good bargain... All the best.

Hey, cheers! It's pretty much identical maybe the colour science is a little different as well as the little bit of extra resolution. I have never used a VAF before with the 5D2. It will create slightly softer looking image, but it's still very good. The 5D3 has higher fps modes if that's an interest to you. Otherwise, I reckon the 5D2 is awesome, and I'm still currently using it alongside my other cameras.

Hey Zeek, have been following your channel for a while and your contents are great! I found a 5Dii for a good price and am considering buying it as apposed to an EOS M; my main worry is Moire/Aliasing in 5Dii's full-sensor 3x3 mode as I was not too thrilled of it on the 50D when I had it last year. Also low light performance is crucial but I wonder how much can be offset by a SpeedBooster on the M (Wasn't happy with 50D's noise performance either). Would you please provide some insight on the pros and cons? Thanks! Also would love to see your take on 5Dii's 3K crop or 4K 3x1 mode and the quality advantages over 3x3 1044p :)

Hey, cheers! The Aliasing in the 5D II is a little better than the Eos m. You also get the option of a VAF Filter if needs be. The EOS M with a speedbooster is very close to the look of the 5DII, but not exactly. The 5DII will have more a of a pop. The speedbooster does help with low light, but the 5SIai will still be better. The 5Ds 3K mode is great and more detailed, though it has about a 2x crop and can get a bit jittery handheld. The 5DII with vintage glass will have good performance when it comes to aliasing compared to the M.

You could use the 5D2 for video though which is good. The EOS M is a good portable choice for raw video. The 5D2 would do just fine in these scenarios.

Yes they are. But no problem. I use a 128GB CF card which can fit heaps with 10/12bit. I then export to a 1TB HDD or SSD.

I never wasted a thought on buying the MkIII or MkIV, since the prices are ridiculous compared to this camera. So, I have plenty experience with photography, but almost zero with filming... NOW I also want to go into video recordings (indoor, reviews etc.) and I bought a rhode Video Micro for the audio recordings (mounted on camera hotshoe) and I have a lot of background noise, despite adjusting the canon original software manually. Can I expect a reduced background noise after installing magic lantern? Do the extra settings help me to solve this problem or do you think I made a wrong choice with this microphone and should record the audio seperately? Hi Jan, no problem. Fantastic camera, still have it. I don't normally record audio with it. I too have a rode videomicro, only tested it on an Eos m and Sony camera though. What are you recording mainly? Dialogue? The mic doesn't have external gain, so it's what is left from the camera unlike the other rode mics with + DB etc.. I think it's a nice mic and you should be having a lot of noise despite the 5D2 being an old camera. Recording audio seperately will always sound better. It should sound decent +4/5 from the lowest setting.

But if you say it is not possible to have great audio quality with a mic mounted to the camera, I guess I have to change my mind about that!

I use a juicedlink with XLR inputs, with 3.5mm straight into the camera, then place a shotgun mic on a boom stand. Magic lantern could possibly help with audio gain functions, it's worth a try.

Both good options. I haven't used the 6D in a while. I can see it has become more developed with ML. The colour science was my favourite on that camera. I have some raw video samples of the 6D Raw in the early vids of the channel. Honestly both good options. The 6D can use smartphones as monitors.

Is it worth upgrading to this build? What are the extra functions? I use the build: 2018-07-02 and can shoot raw in 1856x790 (2.35:1) at 25 fps, so actually the same resolution and I have replay mode, plus can choose to keep ML on the card when formatting. Could not find the option though in the raw video menu for Bit Depth. It's 14 bit as a default for me. Nice shots and great video!

Yes focus peaking is enabled, not worth it though, LV Digic Peaking is better. Yes, because those builds are limited to 14 Bit only. There is a new build though, with playback available. Will have to look into it. You can find it in the ML Forum. - Yes, No Crop I'm RAW 1056x1044. 😎👍

Never used premiere Pro. Use MLV app to convert the raw files and export as DNG, mp4 or ProRes.

You can do 5.6K @3.6fps or something...good for time-lapse. But that's in another build in the ML Forum. I can get about 2.8-3K Max with this build with a 1.85-2x Crop Factor. I usually just shoot 1856x1040 and then upscale in post.

No problem at all! The highest resolution in 1:2 aspect ratio is like 1856x1244 but you will need to use 10/12bit to get continuous. Downloading a new build should retain the features, if not, you can always fall back to the one i'm using here.

Hey Zeek, I would love to see a follow up video with your work flow for the raw footage. I have had my 5Dmkii for prob 9 years, loved it, upgraded it to a 1Dxmkii, then broke that now have a C100mkii for video and a eos R for video. However would love to play more with my 5Dmkii and RAW. In the past the work flow for me was too painful (only used it on one comerical project) but if you have a slick way... I would love to learn it. Great video, hope to enjoy more!

Hey there Zeek, Hope you're good. I have had my 5D Mk 2 for about nine years and have shot several feature films for tv and a crap-load of commercials and music videos etc with it over those years. Now nearing on 70 years young, not wanting to spend on an upgrade and not wanting to rack focus especially with the 5D mounted on my gimbal I'd love auto focus so therefore I'm enquiring from you whether there's a way of obtaining a method to do this to my camera perhaps? Unfortunately not. You're best bet is to focus on your subject and maintain that distance, or focus to infinity.

I paid exactly $500 for this off ebay. 14K Shutter count so plenty of life left. 3. I always use this skin to protect and preserve the body of the camera. 6D Better Dynamic Range & Low-light, plus wi-fi for smartphone video monitoring. I don't own the 6D Anymore, but I remember the resolution looked quite identical to the EOS M, so I was like what the heck, and sold it. It was my favourite camera back in the day, it had a lot of aliasing. Now it seems it's improved with ML Updates so I don't know now. Either option would be a good option. The 5DII shoots higher resolution and continuous RAW at higher bit depths. It is also hopefully soon going to get lossless options for small raw file sizes and hopefully higher fps & resolution fps.

this camera came out back when i was finishing film school. I would have killed to have the money for one back then. I am pretty sure my mac book back then would have exploded if i tried to put 12 bit raw footage on it. But man the still off this thing were legendary and its applications for gorilla film making where all anyone was talking about in my last semester of school. Might be your settings in Premiere Pro. MLV App exports won't have any influence like these. Check your settings in-camera, shooting 1/50 of a shutter.

When magic lantern is installed on the Eos m or M2, no additional crop is added. Its the original 1.6x Apsc crop only. If you use different modes such as 2.5K Mode then it's about 2.9x crop.

I actually haven't used those modes before on the 5D2, I believe the 5.6K is low fps like around 2 or something. The only one I have been using recently is 2.7K RAW which I find to be amazing on the 5D2. I will check them out and see what I can do. The builds for the 5D2 feel a bit over the place. I'll give them a go and see how it turns out. Really enjoy the 5D2.

A little more detail with the 5D2, more dynamic range, good lowlight, full frame look. These are the reasons to upgrade. But honestly, I do enjoy taking out the Eos m a little more. There is audio input for the 5D2.

@@ZeekEOSZ I've bought a 7D as well. I'll be returning either the EOS-M or the 7D. I just want the most cinematic image in 1080p. Not really bothered about 4K been there bought the T-Shirt. My goal is to be able to get a heavy grade image without it just falling apart. I want to be able to correct white balance without it distorting colours out of all recognition. I shot a girl wearing a khaki green cardigan one angle and forgot to white balance. In the next shot different angle the cardigan was grey. I want to be able to shoot in a car or next to a window without it just blowing out to white. And if i can do that with audio and get a reasonably detailed sharp image, that's all I want. I'm prepared to sacrifice auto focus, IBIS, Bluetooth, 4K, 120fps ... all of it. I just want a great looking image that doesn't look like cheap video. 😊I am hoping that the EOS-M shoots as good RAW video as the 7D just because the form factor is more pleasing. Small and light and half the price.

@@JWS1968 I've had the 7D before and preferred the Eos m. The 7D had aliasing like a candy store. My whole button shirt was ruined from aliasing with the 7D. The image is on par to the Eos m, except the Eos m wins when paired with a speedbooster. The low light of the 7D wasn't good. From your description it sounds like you can't go wrong with the Eos m, 5D II or 5DIII. 6D is another option.
