It's 2024 and the soulsborne community is still hating on casuals, like let people just enjoy a game without having to sink 2000 hours into it
@victorcoffin26386 ай бұрын
Mate…the souls-like community is very toxic in my opinion. They are the biggest gatekeepers and haters regarding casual single player games. I am very sure this will not change at it is an established standard. Remember how all of them hated for: using summons; using coop, using rivers of blood, using blood in general, farming until u over levelled,… So nope, this is not going to change as it is a general thing…a shared identity of them so to speak.
@DebasedAnon6 ай бұрын
@@victorcoffin2638 Theres a reason they gatekeep, cause if they didnt the games would turn into the western 0 gameplay movie game garbage aimed entirely at casual audiences. Gatekeeping is essential, to pretend like its a bad word is the height of idiocy. As for the overpowered weapons and summons you can do what you want, people will tell you not to use them cause you'll rob yourself of some of the best experiences in from soft games: overcoming a tough obstacle after many tries. If you're fully aware of what you're doing and you want to then go ahead knock yourself out but those things are rightfully looked down upon.
@victorcoffin26386 ай бұрын
@@DebasedAnon I do not share your view at all, to be honest. Let me share my take on each of your sentences or “points” u are making. So you are telling me they are gatekeeping in order to assure the quality of the FromSoftware titles? I highly doubt that, as I think that you greatly overestimate the influence you are having on the masterminds at FromSoftware and other studios making Souls-like games. Such game genres are not becoming more popular and are of higher quality by having a player base that “bullies” other players for their respective play styles, but instead by selling a high quality game. Elden Ring was bought by a sea of new players who had never stepped into the waters of OG Dark Souls, yet they loved it. It is their most sold game ever, and people played it in their style. So in summarization, I do not see any truthfulness behind that claim of urs that u need to gatekeep in order to assure quality. From a logical point of view, having access to a bigger market while keeping ur identity assures you of increased profits, hence making the development of high quality games easier. A good example of this is Baldurs Gate 3. No one (besides a few lost ones) was gatekeeping there and making claims on how to play the game, yet it is of incredible quality, winning more awards and making more sales than most games ever. Simply saying that people are idiots for using “gatekeeping” (keeping others away from having their personal approach towards a game) as a negative term is very rude and not helpful in any way to have a clear and objective discussion. List good reasons and arguments for your cause instead of calling people idiots. The next part is quite interesting for me. U say that using overpowered weapons, strong summons, and stuff like that will be a bad experience for me, especially as it robs me of the “overcoming a challenge” experience. I think it’s incredibly presumptuous of you to think that you now how someone else will enjoy playing a video game, knowing nothing about their personal approach to video games. In fact, I think it’s an act of sheer audacity to tell any gamer how they are supposed to play a game in order for them to have fun. Imagine for a second that you are watching a movie made and produced in Spanish. Now, you sit there and casually watch it in English, and you love it. You post online, writing a review, for example, and then people start telling you that whatever you experienced was not the right way to enjoy it because you need to watch it in Spanish. Now you might say that you don't speak Spanish and that putting on subtitles whilst watching makes it hard to focus on what actually happens on screen, hence decreasing your experience of watching or enjoying the movie. Their response: Well, then you have not enjoyed the movie properly. They have the audacity to tell you that you dont even know what you like and that your experience is therefore fully void and simply not good. That right there is gatekeeping, and I see not how it is of any advantage for the creative minds behind the created piece of art that you are receiving hate for enjoying it with the tools provided to you by the artist. How can you say “those things are rightfully looked down upon” when you play the game with the tools provided for playing it? Elden Ring has summons, even with a full levelling system for them. There are multiplayer options in all the Dark Souls and Bloodborn games for a reason, as there are no summoning/ multiplayer options in Sekiro. Dont you think that's for a reason too? Miyazaki enjoys toying with his audience as much as any artist might, but he never claims that there is a wrong way to play his games. In total summarization, I view gatekeeping as an incredibly bad way of treating players and the artist behind the product, and your “arguments” could definitely not convince me otherwise. Claiming that you know one’s personal taste and style of playing video games better than they know themselves is very audacious of you. Something that I view as particularly interesting is that you mention the importance of gatekeeping in order to preserve the quality of the game, yet FromSoftware itself does provide those tools (summons, weapons, multiplayer) for the players to enjoy their piece of art. So do you think you know better than the actual creators by disrespecting their product and telling them how others should enjoy their work? At the end, it comes down to one simple answer for me: Just let people enjoy themselves and the incredible product in front of them.
@StrawberryCalcite6 ай бұрын
@@DebasedAnonthere’s literally no sense in gatekeeping this genre, there’s literally 1m+ fans out there who are they gatekeeping from? Just because the games are getting popular doesn’t mean they’re going to get “ruined” 💀

@@StrawberryCalcite Yeah there's absolutely no precedent for games becoming too mainstream and becoming utter garbage... except the entire Western industry, yup you sure got me there you're a genius. Do you even realise how many clowns who had never played a From Soft game in their lives there was around the Elden Ring launch screeching about wanting to be spoon fed the story, wanting to be guided to the quests and a billion other things? I'd rather a handful of easily offended clowns get easily offended cause people tell them they're dumb than let these parasites in so they can destroy From Soft like they've destroyed every western studio.

A week ago, you would've caught me saying all sorts of negative things regarding the boss design in Elden Ring, but now I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it's simply just me and the mentality I've set for this game the first time going through and stuck with it for the rest of my time ingame. I knew I had to be mistaken on something a little after finishing the DLC, as I watched LMSH no-hit Messmer. Now, I never thought I'd manage a no-hit to any boss, however, I decided after watching that and reminding myself about the many challenge players that exist within game, to undertake some exploration with my perspective. I went to yours and another's video regarding the boss designs, and decided to undertake a challenge for myself using the advice present in those videos; I took up a standard longsword, namely the Lordsworn's for its crit, and I fought the bosses. When I've gotten to Godrick... I died; I died a lot. Too many times. However, I managed to learn the boss by stepping outside of my mentality and I've learned him for the first time. Only having to get hit once while always being beside him. My proudest lesson was learning his ground aoe attack, of which I figured out that I can punish him my using a jump r1 attack compared to a jump r2 attack while simultaneously jumping and still avoiding the attack consistently. It may not be much for some players, since Godrick is not complex like the others, but I found myself enjoying a mediocre boss while also learning to be patient with the game. That being said, I'm still going through the game with the longsword, but I've enjoyed every bit of it thus far, and I thank you for proving that my perspective was wrong.

Elden Ring is one of my favorite games of all time, pre-ordered it and played it consistently for two years. YET, I only played it for about 200 hours. 2000 is just bonkers, insane

Casual did a lot better than me. I wouldn’t have been able to get to that area in the first place 💀

You make an excellent point Rowling not being like other girls. She isn’t. She’s more “pick me” where other girls are “pick each other up”

Both beat the game. The casual actually has a life. The pro has nothing else.

The casual player is obviously trolling

@@30000beesinatrenchcoat I reckon pro in this context is just another term for "experienced/seasoned/skilled" players. Real pro means you're competing in a legal competition(s) with other professional players. Like those guys competing in global e-competition. If you're into sports, it could be a League, Olympics, and so on.
