Tenia un defecto, que en muchos momentos no vocalizaba bien y se equivocó cantando papeles como Traviata y Trovador que no era para su voz. Ella era la reina del bel canto (Donizetti y Bellini).

Terrance - Her recordings from 59-60 ( her first recital discs) are great by any standards but later, even by 61, her voice had gained a substantial amount of depth, richness, and color and I prefer them to her earliest recordings.

I agree! I love the coda with the C major scales and arpeggios included in the 61 recording (and this one)! I prefer the tempi and overall phrasing in general (we're talking *minor* differences) in the 61 recording.

According to her autobiography she learned as a child. Her mother was a mezzosoprano who had been trained by a great teacher (who himself had been trained by Marchesi). She kept her voice in shape doing exercises every day, so as a child Joan would sit on the floor, listening and imitating her mother.

@@rakellcolotta3675 presumably :) I would think a trill would be an integrated part of the Marchesi method, but I don't know for sure. Sutherland used to say that her mother's voice reminded her of Ebe Stignani, so she must have been a heavy mezzo.

@belcunto -I was fortunate enough to hear her live on two occasions! Unforgettable in Anna Bolena. I was in 7th row center and the finale was one of the greatest performances of operatic perfection anyone can imagine! I also met her and got a personal autograph. She was very down-to-earth and gracious as well. There will never be another Sutherland. She was truly the Voice of the Century!

Her 1959 debut album is still the best. This is droopy, covered, with none of the gothic color I'd like to hear in Lucia's voice. Scotto's early Lucias were perfection in that way. Of course the cabaletta is miraculous and brilliant, but it leaves a big hole for the drama that never is really expressed as well as the stunning voice.

@@jesusmunoz2400 jajaja si, es que este perfil de KZbin dice muchísimas tonterías, pero porque admira a una cantante que tuvo la suerte de hacerse famosa Gracias a su marido, pero no vale para nada. Hay muchas mejores que ella, solo sabía hacer coloratura rápido con agudos y nada más. Ni tenia buena pronunciación, pero en ningún idioma, ni entendía lo que cantaba y por tanto era una actriz horrible, no tenía una voz con peso ni oscuridad, su centro y sus graves eran casi inexistentes. Nadie podrá quitarle a Callas su puesto en la ópera, a Sutherland no la recuerda casi nadie, a Callas no hay nadie que no la conozca.
