The Sony A7R III is truly a beast of a camera. But imagine what you can do with the ZEISS Camera Lenses Batis, Milvus and Otus lenses. Oh wait, you don't have to, because Bobby Tonelli took these three lenses out for a spin and they blew his mind.

The Japanese word "bokeh" is pronounced "bo keh" by the JAPANESE, and since it's their word maybe we can pronounce it their way. It's not a French word for wine. There's no "a" in it. Kids these days: gotta make everything seem fancy. LOL.

The pronunciation is one that gets a lot of photographers. Understand the origins but based on where you are from some will say it differently. Meaning is all the same though :)

The colours and saturation looks aweful... if doing lens reviews then shouldn't use any such effects

I concur: the skin tones are waaaay over-processed in some of the photos. I think someone was having fun with the sliders in LR or PS.

I have the Zeiss Batis 18mm and really like it. The other two are likely very nice, but I don't like having to use a lense adapter. If Milvus and Otus ever come out with an Emount lense I would love to purchase one.

Hi Bobby, I am looking for a new set up and I am looking for new body. I am using Zeiss Milvus zf.2 lenses and I am interested in the focussing process. Is there any sort of focus confirmation when using those MIlvus with Sony bodies?

Nice review but disappointing to see that there are no sample images shown for each lens, there are a few thrown around but they were the same images shown in the Sony a7r3 review!

Voyager Adventurer in the A7RIII review review, the majority of photos shown were shot with the Zeiss lenses in this video. We wanted to highlight differences between the Milvus And Otus more, but with the video compression and image compression it’s hard to see much difference on KZbin. If there are any questions I can help answer though feel free to ask.

But why they filter effects on the photos while talking about how clear, contrasty, sharp these lenses are??? If anyone would take this review to decide, they would go with a coke bottle instead 🙂

One of the most expensive lenses on Earth is still manual focus! Really, Zeiss?!

Well when you have some of the best glass a lens could have and it’s already this big, putting motors in the lens would make it even bigger.

Hahaha understand. Perhaps in the future they will do one that is autofocus. For me I’m used to manual focus as I shoot with rangefinders in my off time so it’s not an issue for me, but can see how some will view it differently. - Bobby

The 55 mm Otus is distagon and the 85 mm Otus is Planar, any difference in the quality of images? I know you tried the 85 Otus.

Hello. Congratulations for review. I wanted to ask, I own Milvus 50mm for Canon, and I would like to mount it on a7R iii. What adapter would you recommend to me that it does not cost much .. Thanks
@Festvangelist
@Festvangelist 5 жыл бұрын
That is an extraordinarily high price tag on that lens, not sure if would drop that kind of cash on a lens with other top notch alternatives price under $2000.

Between the Milvus 50 1.4 and Otus 55 1.4 there is basically no difference or the difference is minimal.... apart from the price tag.

Hey Sam, could you share more information regarding the Sigma MC 11 with Otus lens? I'm planning to get an Otus to work on A7R4. Will that work ?
@marc6652
@marc6652 6 жыл бұрын
Sadly, the Otus is not AF and heavy. And focusing at 1,4 is not that easy (I had a 50 summilux...). A pity you didn't test the Batis 55 f:1,8 instead of the Batis 18mm. It's extremely sharp, light, and not very expensive.

Marc M240 with the Sony's focus magnification it makes shooting at 1.4 much easier than on other cameras I even tried the Leica 75 1.4 and could nail focus on the Sony. Yes I heard about the Batis 55, perhaps if I review the A7III I can try out that lens as well ;)

How do you feel the milvus and otus balance out on the A7RIII? How (un)comfortable it is to be hand holding and manual focusing? I have the Milvus 50mm and am planning on getting a sony A7RIII. Hence my questions. Thanks in advance.
@btonelli
@btonelli 6 жыл бұрын
Erick Yáñez hi Erick the Milvus paired with the A7RIII is actually quite comfortable. The lens is lighter than the Otus and slightly shorter in length. If you want to shoot with one hand for a long period of time you might need to do some forearm exercises haha, but overall it’s pretty well balanced and the image quality more than makes up for the extra size and weight.

Thanks for the response Bobby. Appreciate your advice, I'm thinking on getting the grip. Maybe that will help balance things out. Gotta say, that Milvus line is very addictive.
