The Otus lenses have always been special. I couldn't afford them, but I do have Milvus lenses. I have shot videos with my Fuji GFX100/NinjaV using the 85mm Milvus and the 50mm Milvus. The results are amazing. With that huge sensor and fast Milvus lenses, the video is as good as it gets. If I were getting paid the big bucks for video productions, then I would probably buy Otus lenses.

I actually prefer the Milvus lenses as they have smoother bokeh (the Otus has onion rings). But in all other respects they're fantastic lenses.

How does the otus lens compare to the cp2 super speeds? I'm trying to decide whether to get more cp2 glass or switch to the otus. I'm shooting on a red Scarlet.

Hello, the Otus lenses come with the more modern and much more complex optical design compared to the Compact Prime CP.2 Super Speed lenses. When used wide open, the Otus lenses with deliver more contrast, less chromatic aberrations and more overall performance. Like all photo lenses, the mechanics of Otus lenses is optimized for still photo applications, whereas cine lenses like the CP.2 type lenses were optimized for cinematography applications. That RED camera you are show casing in the video does not shoot "full frame" as you say. It is a S35 sensor

Hi Fabricio, This is a video from Jem Schofield about the OTUS lenses, he tells that they cover all sizes of sensors up to full frame format (24x36mm). The Red Dragon Sensor (30,7x15,8mm) is sometimes called "6K FF" by RED or by cinematographers, although it's about the normal 35mm size, this is what Jem mentions in this video. Hello! Happy New Year and thank you for your message! :-) The SLR lenses of the Otus lens family are one of the best performing photo lenses on the market. They were developed to show nearly no aberrations, even at f/1.4. You can find their performance data in the technical data sheets (www.zeiss.com/consumer-products/int/service/download-center/photography/datasheets-photography.html ). Their performance level is similar to those of the Master Prime and Supreme Prime cine lenses. The Compact Prime CP.3 lenses come with the same optical design as the corresponding Classic or Milvus still photo lenses. For the best possible optical performance, without noticeable aberrations, they should be stopped down moderately. Have a nice day!

It depends on the camera if an adapter is needed or which one is needed. ZEISS Otus lenses are available with E-Mount or EF-Mount.

Hi Daniel, All of our Classic, Milvus and Otus lens families are available in ZF.2 (Nikon F-) or ZE (Canon EF-) mount. They accord to the Nikon F-mount standards or the Canon EF-mount standards. The Nikon F-mount system with the mechanical aperture control from the camera allows a manual aperture ring on the lens, whereas the Canon EF-mount standard with the aperture motor in the lens does not allow any mechanical aperture feedback from the lens. So the functionality of ZF.2 lenses on Nikon bodies is the same like with Nikkor AI-P lenses, and the functionality of ZE mount lenses on a Canon EOS body is the same like with a Canon EF mount lens (e.g. in terms of aperture control, exposure modes, exif data...). The direction of the focusing ring also accords to the corresponding standard (Nikon F-mount: turning the ring couterclockwise to infinity; Canon EF-mount: turning the ring clockwise to infinity - looking from the front).
