Hello Dean, There is a rectangle part, 4x2x1. Datum-A is a top surface, datum-B is cylinder (at left of a long side) and datum-C is a cylinder at right. Why a trihegon shows differently when a cylinder-C is chosen and when a point of intersection between A and C ? Thank you!

I also think that setting Symmetry1 as a Z Origin is not an optimal choice, it should be Cylinder3.
@JC-zv3bb5 ай бұрын
I agree, and I would create a 3D line between the two cylinders to create a better lock on the X Axis. The symmetry has too much rotational drift because there isn't a true 6 degree of freedom lock.
@Go5lincz2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I was just thinking, why would you use symmetry as a Z origin? I would use Cylinder3.

I really like your videos and am a CMM tech myself. I juggle with Accura, Micura, and the Duramax. Im hoping you might be able to know about a problem we are having with the Vast XXT head on the Duramax. Sometimes when checking a part the probe stalls and stops. It doesn't show it has wrecked ( the stop light stays green), it just stops. It only happens on the Duramax. Do you know what causes this and hopefully.....a fix?... Thanks in advance for your time and again for the great videos.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I have had issues with programs running correctly if the alignment is not “just right”. If I have a probe go off into space, or stop, I go in and erase the alignment and select the features for the alignment again. I hope this helps.

Hello , i really loved your videos , i am learning cmm and your videos helped a lot, can you make an video on concentricity and perpendicularity where you have measure any perpendicularity on center axis of Diameter to another center axis of Diameter and also concentricity as well .

Hi! I am currently measuring a cylinder part, and confused on how to set up the alignment. One of the datum is a plane at the end of the cylinder, and another is the cylinder itself. What would I use for the spatial, planar, x, and y origin?
@RDeanOdell2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would use the largest feature for the spatial, and choose a feature perpendicular to that for the planar rotation. You may need another feature to establish the “z” depending on the configuration of the part.
@cncdude96802 жыл бұрын
How would you do that alignment without the two cylinders? Say you had a hollow rod and you wanted to check the straightness. No plane, no cylinders, just a hollow rod.
@RDeanOdell2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I would put the part in a V block and use the surfaces of the V block for alignment.

@@RDeanOdell For the planar rotation?
@RDeanOdell2 жыл бұрын
@@cncdude9680 Yes. I would use the axis of the cylinder for the spatial and a plane on the v-block for planar rotation. X,Y,Z origins shouldn’t matter much to check straightness or length.

@@RDeanOdell So everything worked great on Monday when I used the v-block for the planar rotation, but today when I came in and tried to check an identical part using the same alignment, the part was flipped 180 deg. The first feature probed exactly where it should, then the probe went in the opposite direction it should. Any suggestions of what I may be doing wrong?

When do you use radial distance vs caliper distance?
@RDeanOdell Жыл бұрын
I like caliper distance for just about everything that isn’t a GD&T specification.

MR. Odell when you choose the origin how come you use just a symmetry if this is a line, so we need a Z value then it will make a unique point(origin). the Z value should come from the theoretical cylinder3 (horizontal cylinder). thanks for your hard work teaching for free.

Mr. Odell, How were you able to get the probe to just sweep the arc? When I probe 3 points I still get it wanting to sweep a full circle! Thanks in advance!

Adust the start angle and the angle range to 180 so half a circle, start angle will show you where you want it. Hope this helps.

Sir Can u please tell What is 'rotation in space ' & 'Planar rotation'?
@TheGuyWho888 Жыл бұрын
Rotation in space is for placing your Trihedron, use your top plane preferably. Planar rotation is to set the orientation of your primary origin.

@@SevenTimes249 I’ve worked extensively with PC-DMIS for years, and while it is a very good software, Calypso is so much more powerful, especially when it comes to large projects. But that’s my opinion, PC-DMIS might be better suited for you. I’ve also worked with MCOSMOS from Mitutoyo, U-Soft Solid and WM Quartis with 17 years of experience, so I know my way around.
