I believe it was explained as “I have to have fun in what I do. I’m not like my father.” Even then his true emotion slipped through at times like when he crushed the boulder thinking about what King Reiss did and the second time when he got pissed when the Scouts kept charging at him because he felt it was a pointless thing. He even said, “What a waste”. I think it’s a coping mechanism rather than genuine enjoyment. At most he’d feel detached from them. Everything for his grand plan that he believes will end the tragedy of Eldian existence in a way he thinks is most suitable. (Peaceful extinction via being unable to reproduce. But the living ones get to live out the rest of their days without fear of being invaded by the rest of the world.)

people who were saying he didn’t care about eren is untrue. he literally told eren he would save him multiple times. he knew eren was raised by grisha and because of zeke’s experience, he thought eren was brainwashed. yeah he ultimately used eren to get to the founder, but both were using each other and not killing each other. even after zeke got into the paths he still wanted to save eren. eren also cared for zeke seeing how grisha used and pressured zeke at a young age to do something he didn’t want to do. i feel like eren manipulated his dad as a way to teach him a lesson by making Grisha do what he almost made zeke do. eren even let grisha see zeke and apologize to him, while zeke finally got the relief of never having a caring dad.

What’s really sad is that Zeke has spent most of his life believing that it would have been better if he had never been born, so he sees Eren not only as a someone who was a victim because Grisha passed on his mission to him, but because he was born into a world at all. I'm a bit surprised by all the "Zeke is a good brother, Eren didn't care about him" comments. Zeke loves the concept of being an older brother; he loves the idea of having family. But that doesn't mean he's good at doing those things. He projects all his childhood trauma, worldview, etc. onto someone younger than himself, and elevates himself to the White Knight who will "correct" poor Eren's erroneous worldview. Eren isn't a human person to Zeke, he 's just a representtion of Zeke's childhood self. Zeke wants to "save Eren from the legacy of their father" because it will make him feel like he saved his childhood self from the legacy of Grisha. Eren makes it very clear he needs zero saving, but Zeke doesn't care about that. He decides before he ever MEETS Eren that Eren is brainwashed and a victim. Eren is WAY too proud of his indepdence and freedom to be okay with being seen that way. A good older brother would actually get to know who Eren is as a person, without projecting, as an equal not a preacher. Since Zeke never bothered to do that, and it was obvious to Eren that Zeke was just projecting, plus they had no shared life experiences and were on opposite sides of a bloody battle....why would Eren be obligated to care about this dude? it was criminally easy for Eren to manipulate him, and so he does. Reiner knew Eren WAY better than Zeke ever did -- and so Eren is willing to be honest with Reiner in a way he never bothers to with Zeke.

I Agree 100% with all of this. I just want to add that I feel that Zeke did get genuinely excited at the IDEA of being an older brother, having more family other than his grandparents was probably something he really wished for, knowing everyone he considered as such died. However, he had a highly idealized version of what being an older brother is and couldn't build a proper relationship not only because of time restraints but because his social capabilities are stunted to some degree, having been a child soldier and seemingly having no social interactions outside of the military and the other titan shifters (we all know that he can be sadistic with his enemies, and I think is because of this lack of interactions, making him unable to see those he kills as humans like himself, paired up with Marleys intense dehumanization process of course) things like him empathizing with Colt, who is an incredible older brother willing to die for his baby brother and saying that he has a little brother to look after as well or giving Eren dating advice. But yes. I think he liked the idea of Eren being his little brother and living with him in Marley, but had no clue as to how start building a relationship with him. It blinded him to the point of not seeing Eren's true intentions.

i really love zeke he is really good man tho he wanted to save entire world from titan domination so he wanted to kill all "subject of ymir". if we sees from his perspective his plan is really great. even he also subject of ymir but he also ready to sacrifice himself after all and not getting married too. and he is good brother too even he know eran try to betrays him he still did not want to leave eran and still want to help him. i still can't digest how eran can betrays this man.

What I really like about this story is that there is no bad guy here. Everyone having a reason that forced them to take a side. But noone had a bad feelings towards the other. I still remember the last words of bertholdt before being eaten by Armin “You are not a devil. You are beloved friends but you all have to die. Now I can accept whatever it happens. Noone is wrong and we can do nothing for it. The thing is the world we live in is just too cruel”. That time I thought he’s saying crape as his role in the story, but after knowing the truth, I knew how considerate he was about his friends and people behind the wall that he is ready to kill them to protect them from cruelty he and his race is facing for centuries.
