If you read the comic-adaption from Valiant Comics, there's actually a pretty good ending in this continuity - essentially, Link is tricked into getting the Triforce of Power, and use it to destroy Ganon, however, he of course becomes corrupted by it, and starts BECOMING a Ganon! However, Zelda saves him by getting him to realize what's happening, and he rejects the Power, overcoming the greed and actual weakness which makes Ganon crave Power so much. Link throws the Tri-force of Power into a bottomless well and Ganon of course jumps in after it - essentially falling for all eternity, chasing the Power...

It's probably pretty easy when you consider that there were only thirteen episodes. He wouldn't be able to do this is he were talking about the Super Show itself, since it was 65 episodes (52 Mario, 13 Zelda).

I managed to get the complete series of The Legend of Zelda cartoons and every episode of Super Mario Brothers from The Super Mario Brothers Super Show. Mario ones they included a live action segment with Mario and Luigi in every episode except four. Zelda they included four live action segments. I don't know why they didn't arrange the Zelda ones to include the live action segments with every episode like how we saw it on television.

Kids these days will never understand how great it was watching video games become cartoons. Like you said, there was very little lore about these two games back in 1990. There was little to no exposition in these games. The Super Mario Super Show really helped it bring these games to life

It was good in hindsight=/= It has stood the test of time. If you enjoyed it or STILL do, more power to you. But I've seen older yet more competent shows, so I don't care too much if "it was great back in the day! if I can't stand the characters now.

In hindsight, I'm kind of impressed at how much they were able to flesh these characters out, particularly Zelda. As James notes, she's not some damsel in distress, locked away in some far-off tower, but a partner to Link, a fighter, and completely capable on her own. It's interesting that it took the actual Zelda game series years to catch up with this idea.

It was great to see Link with a personality instead of being a player's avatar who had the game's characters putting words on his mouth and Zelda as a warrior princess instead of a damsel in distress. I never understood why Link had to do cleaning duties, it's something that should have been done by Zelda's inexistent servants so he could use that time to train or relax.

Since people like the Nostalgia Critic made fun of this show, kids who didn't grow up with it got the impression it was terrible. It definitely wasn't. Almost ALL of us back then looked forward to Friday because the Zelda cartoon was awesome! Way better than the SMB Super Show. The "excuuuuuse me, princess" felt normal for cheesy cartoons of that time. All we knew was that we loved playing Zelda, and this show felt JUST like the game -- perfect for kids whose life was Nintendo. A few years later, the Super Mario Bros 3 show was also really good.

frozenaorta it was better than the Mario show but even then there were better shows. And they've only gotten better with time. Until they hit a dead stop and dropped off in quality in the mid 2000s. This show is better than modern cartoons. But that's a sad statement

Yeah I loved this show as a kid as well... :) We were kinda poor and did not have cable tv or anything back at my home...so I could only watch cartoons when I visited my aunt, or my grandparents on the weekends. My grandpa recorded cartoons like this one or Tom&Jerry for me on VHS as kind of a hobby... I really miss them... Whenever I see those cartoons it makes me think of them... Oh man... those were the times. :)

The few chances back then, I even saw it just casual for 3 times + two Valiant comics (both along with ALTTP guided my imagination) - nevertheless, the increasing value of the experience on its own was incredible and still feels the same. A thing I sometimes feel it's missing nowadays, where everything is accessible within a minute and turns to be outdated within a week, for nothing more than a social competition. Some kind of self-identification with the matter: The appreciated aspects have to fit with predominant social expectations. - 8 out of 10 say it is bad, so it's easier to depriciate everything towards zero - Of course, it already was a thing in my childhood, but it reached a whole new level (more off-topic: People more and more drift apart by irrational political fears on each side, it's a frightening progress since the last few years) - Sorry for my bla bla - I just like your comment.
@Daelaron
@Daelaron 6 жыл бұрын
Haha I definitely had to read it twice to comprehend it at this hour, but yeah. I completely agree. It is just a kind of flock-behaviour that makes modern society work like greased clockwork with all our human masses. See that show/movie to say you have seen it. Play that game or even watch it in a stream to know it. Have lots of/early sex to say you have had sex (weird tangent yeah, but similar I think). Just so you can say you "know all about it". And forget about it a week later. The way there... the experience of achieving, savouring it... The contents... It is all in the background now. And that is not even about mainstream or not. Everything has that behaviour attached to it now, it feels like. You build memories by making it an experience to remember. If everyone depends on the experience of one guy, we build a monoculture of opinions. One guy yells "This is how you do it!" or "This is so fucking bad!", and the lemmings follow, without knowing their possibilities. I actually never thought that this Zelda show was super duper amazing, but I loved the Mario show as a kid, even danced to it. Of course they are shit. But kids love that stuff. I also loved the street fighter 2 anime and that is shit. ^^ I loved so many "bad" things... But this video, and James in general oftentimes, makes me remember that back then... I had a different perspective. I changed, society changed. But fond memories... they stay. So we should keep making them ourselves every now and then. And later think back, and smile at our crazy world. :)

Z Man7 no. Just that it came on ONCE every week. And it was 13 weeks. PLENTY of time to forget wht happened each episode. Or just not have to think about it. And unless you taped it, you didn't have constant easy access to it. So it was fresh each time you saw the old episodes. Then it was cut off and time moved on and all you're left with is a memory of 13 weeks of a great cartoon. And you apply what you know about MOST cartoons, being long sagas or having more episodes and seasons. And you just auto actually app,y that to that very old memory. Mandela affect has only the similar idea of changing something in your memory, but it's more pertaining to something you say ALL the time, even currently, and have been, just slightly wrong. But just similar. Doesn't apply to just any ol mistake

the messed up thing with me when i was a kid (am age 34 now) is on the way home from school on the school bus the way they drove kids home was i briefly remember them doing it in alphabetical order as i recall. what sucked for me is that every time the super mario super show and legend of zelda was on TV is that by the time the bus driver got me home those shows literally just ended and were done for the day. every day i was thinking to myself (and not speaking aloud of course) "common driver hurry up and get me home so i can see my shows". In addition to that back then i was like "put shows on when i have time to see them". What really sucked then is that literally none of these shows were on during the weekend when i was not at school. :( luckily NOW i can finally use the one thing i did not have access to when i was a kid known as "the INTERNET". without that i would never be able to see these shows i missed so many years ago.

It was amazing how they were able to fill 65 weekdays with fun diverse episodes of your favorite video game characters on their wacky adventures, all based on 4 games(fine 5 if you include the lost levels) Reminds me of how beautiful KZbin Rewinds used to be back when KZbin was smaller, but now…

The one thing that I find the funniest about the animated Mario segments was how, for some reason, Mario is OBSESSED with pasta. No where in the video games does Mario have anything to do with pasta but for some reason in the animated segments Mario all of a sudden gives Garfield a run for his pasta panache.

I was obsessed with this cartoon as a kid. The reason was that it only aired on Friday. I liked Mario... but it felt to kiddie for me. I felt pandered to at times. The station that showed the Mario show only showed one zelda episode. It drove me crazy. The other issue was that I had to go to school about the same time it came on tv. One time I had a Friday off from school. It was glorious. When I really liked a cartoon I faked being sick. I rarely did it. Fooling your mom is tough and very risky. I think I actually got sick on a friday once. I was in second grade. The bummer was that I only saw that one episode. There was no binge watching in 1988... unless you bought all the VcR tapes.

I actually met the guy who played Toad in the show, John Stocker, at Anime Boston a couple years ago. He was invited as one of the people who worked on the original Sailor Moon dub, where he served as the voice director and as the voice of Rei's (Sailor Mar's) grandfather, along with Linda Ballantyne (Voice of Sailor Moon herself) and Toby Proctor (Voice of Tuxedo Mask). He was awesome and actually did the voice of Toad when I asked.

I loved this show so very much! Even looking back as an adult, the obvious weaknesses that are the points of criticism are points that just make me chuckle and just add to the camp and cheese that make it very much a product of its time. For me, they don't detract from my enjoyment of the show, they actually make me love it more adding to the nostalgia factor you mentioned! I got the DVD set the day it came out and have watched the series through many times in the years since and it's still great!

I like the animated series. I think there's nothing wrong with Link and Zelda having different personalities in this cartoon, since like in the games, there are many different Links and Zeldas. And they even gave Zelda a Bow and Link a horse even before Ocarina of Time!

I remember "The Legend of Zelda" from the popular "Super Mario Bros. Super Show". This cartoon was shown on only the Friday shows. Zelda and Link went to stop Gannon from taking the Tri-Force of Wisdom. Link was a good guy who had perhaps the worst sense of humor ever. Everytime Zelda didn't like his puns,Link would say, "Well excuuuuuuuse me, princess!" (This line,by the way, is a probable tribute to Steve Martin.) He and Zelda would have been a real tandem had he not had that rotten sense of humor, or also telling the princess to kiss him when he did something heroic.
