@@kingofthebandits7694 Maybe it gets better after the first two dungeons, but it was my experience that a large part of the game was built on the idea that a part of the world map is traversed as non-Minish Link, then as Minish Link, then as non-Minish Link, then as Minish Link, repeatedly. Great game? Maybe, but pretty bad Zelda game, by my experience.

I have the game and watch Zelda edition that was released at the beginning of this decade, and it has the first two and link's awakening. They are all very fun, and I like the jump in link's awakening, I feel like it's a mixture between the first two games with the items of Link to the Past.

In Zelda 2? You’re not meant to fight the invisible enemies, until you make them visible

The invisible enemies become visible once you get the item from the 6th palace. They're meant to gate off the final areas of the game.

@HenryDarkLordOfDeath Have you not obtained the candle yet? The candle will light up the caves. Northeast of the first village, Rauru, there's a cave with just a single enemy in it, and it leads to a desert where the first palace is. You can get the candle there. You can see the enemy's shadow on the floor, if you look carefully, hopefully that helps with getting through that cave. Before entering the palace go south along the eastern coast for a heart container, or if you're playing Hoverbat's remake, for a heart piece. If you're playing Hoverbat's remake, there's also a magic jar piece if you go along the north-west coast of the desert. Good luck!

Dark Souls gives you actual checkpoints, the lack of them in Zelda 2 is the #1 reason it can get unbearable to play through without save states

There is a fan made "enhanced" Zelda 2 called ZIIAOL that runs on PC floating around the internet for those that care to look for it. It doesn't remaster anything but it does have some quality of life improvements, fixes some of the original cartridge bugs, and it has a widescreen graphics mode so the screen isn't either stretched or pillarboxed on your monitor.

@r.l.royalljr.3905 i think saying it's not remastered is a bit misleading. There are tons of improvements and quality of life changes that make ZALiA, or the Zelda 2 Enhanced PC edition the best possible version of the game that currently exists.

i think the first one deserves a remake in the style of link between worlds or the links awakening remake. it's still fun to go back and play, even for people who have never played it before. i think newer fans might be turned away from it because of its age. a proper remake would introduce new fans into the start of the series

That's fair yeah the Touchscreen I never minded much because I liked how you could curve the Boomerang around corners and crap but I can see how people might not like it, an ideal version of the game I think should have a gameplay toggle for that for people like me who like it and people who might not to turn it on and off

Indeed, it's a shame it relied on a touchscreen gimmick as I'd LOVE to see PH remastered/remade but due to the touchscreen gimmick not being liked much it's not a great chance it'll be remastered/remade, at the very least I'd kill for Nintendo Switch Online to have an NDS Emulator so I could play it again as my NDS was stolen when I was a kid

Realistically the way to make Zelda 2 better is to make the overworld scaled to size with the over head view, have enemies statically spawned instead of dynamically, and put a modern save system in, maybe even the owl statue method.

Changes to Zelda II that would make it a great game: 1. A casual mode, by which I mean a mode where in you don't get sent all the way back to North Castle due to running out of lives, because that's absurd, make it an optional difficulty feature for the masochists who enjoy losing hours of their actual lives over a single misinput. 2. Longer Sword, in Zelda 1, Link had a sword as big as he was, and in Zelda 2, there are enemies have reasonably long swords to attack you with, so why does Link spend the whole game with a tiny dagger? 3. Update the graphics, something as simple as giving the sprites a full color palette so that Link's sword is not the same color as his flesh would go a really long way.

One perfect remake Nintendo blew is The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker DX for the Wii. Because instead of adding the scrapped dungeons and scrapped quests in the rushed game, they put each of them into other Zelda games. Also, imagine controlling the Sailboat and Wind Waker motions with the Wii remote.

This is what I’ve always been saying. It has the potential to be such a good game, but it can be hard to complete without a guide and the difficulty is just unreasonable, even dark souls enthusiasts would resort to save states playing it. If the difficulty was toned down and the way forward was more obvious, it would instantly be a good game. The combat is super fun, the spells are unique, but it’s just so damn difficult. I could also do without the lives can stay if it sent you back to the start of the dungeon when you died or the lives if it sends you to the start of the dungeon with a game over, which I think is reasonable considering literally every zelda game (including the first one) works like this, you have to go through literal mazes full of enemies to get to some of them, and the only way to get extra lives is super hidden, can only be picked up once, and isn’t a permanent upgrade to your life count.

There was once a remake of Zelda II Adventure of Link planned - for the SNES and it should have polygon graphics like OoT and MM. But it was canceled because it didnt work, but some of the concepts and ideas were later reused for OoT :)

Totally agree, Zelda 2 needs it the most just the premise of it being mostly 2D is enough to make it feel fresh, and the non-linearity could be appealing to the "metroidvania" crowd seem how popular the genre is today. That said, the have to keep it challenging but not unforgiving, and the artstyle should be unique, I don't want it to be like Link's Awakening HD, this is the best chance to bring pixelart back.

You should check out Zelda 2 Remastered it is a fan made remake that adds new mechanics, enemies, areas, and quality of life improvements it is fantastic, though despite being called remastered the graphics are the same with some new sprites.
