I'm a long time fan of your content and I've gotta be honest. Metroid Dread being 2 years old doesn't justify not taking a second to say "spoiler alert" before you spoil something. It's not like someone should expect Metroid spoilers in a video about Zelda. People get into the series at different times, as we all live different lives, and that isn't a flaw on their part. It is, however, a flaw to not take a second to be considerate of others. Some kid somewhere may have just gotten old enough to watch Star Wars, but the kid already knows the ending to Empire Strikes Back because of people that think spoilers have an expiration date and blame the victim for not witnessing the whole of fictional media fast enough. I'm still trying to help my nephew avoid spoilers for Dragon Ball as we watch though the series together. It's perfectly fine to bring spoilers up on your channel, but it's nothing but inconsiderate to not even say "spoiler alert" beforehand. All that being said, I'm still a fan, and will still be watching. Just hoping you're considerate enough to add a couple words to the conversation in the future. Edit: Another option is to have a 5 second image at the start of the video that says: "Discussion in this video includes spoilers for: Metroid Dread Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Zelda: Skyward Sword Etc."

Alright, since y'all were bringing up Metroid, time to drop the timeline. The official timeline has the games in the following order: > Metroid NES / Metroid: Zero Mission > Metroid Prime > Metroid Prime Hunters > Metroid Prime 2: Echoes > Metroid Prime 3: Corruption > Metroid Prime: Federation Force > Metroid II: The Return of Samus / Metroid: Samus Returns > Super Metroid > Metroid: Other M > Metroid Fusion > Metroid Dread ------------------- The official Metroid two-volume manga released in the early 2000s give us the following: Samus was born in 2055 (do the math when she was 3 and K2-L was attacked). K2-L was attacked in 2058. Old Bird took her to Zebes where Samus was genetically adapted with Chozo DNA. Samus leaves Zebes and joins the Federation at the age of 16, making the date 2071. She works with Adam and his task force, and eventually goes her own path as a bounty hunter. This first mission she goes on is her "zero mission". Metroid NES/Zero Mission take place in "20x5". Thanks to the manga we now know this is 2075. This makes Samus 20 years old. According to the official timeline Prime, Prime Hunters, Prime 2, Prime 3, and Federation Force all take place after Zero Mission and before Samus Returns. Prime is stated to take place in "20x6", meaning 2076. Prime 2: Echoes takes place in "20x7", meaning 2077. Prime 3: Corruption takes place "six months later" with the context being the climax of Echoes. This means Prime 3 happens approximately late 2077 or early 2078. Federation Force provides no date or time, but it takes place after Prime 3 and before Metroid 2. So approximately sometime in 2078. Metroid 2/Samus Returns takes place "four years after her Zero Mission", meaning these games take place in 2079. Samus is 24. Super Metroid happens immediately after Samus hands off the baby metroid to the Federation researchers at the end of Metroid 2. This means this also takes place in 2079, giving us a working point for the other games. Other M starts with Samus giving a report about the events of Super Metroid, then "weeks later" the main game of Other M takes place. This means Other M approximately takes place in 2079 or early 2080. There are some references characters make to other events in the series, but the suggested dates in these dialogues do not match the official timeline and are just accepted to be filler dialogue, banter, or a case of the unreliable narrator trope. Metroid Fusion canonically takes place two years after Super Metroid. This means Fusion happens in 2081. Samus is now 26. We do not know exactly when Dread takes place, but it is implied to happen soon if not immediately after Samus destroys the B.S.L. at the end of Fusion. This means Dread (to our current knowledge) happens in either 2081 or extremely early in 2082.

Zelda I (the Zelda of Zelda 2) was the reason why every princess born into the royal family was required to be named Zelda (before then it was just a tradition), as the manual states. She kept the location kf the Trifoece of Courage hodden from Ganon, who was influencing her brother, even at great personal cost, resulting in a long deep sleep induced by a curse. Source: the Manual. ALttP Zelda: powerful enough telepath to contact you from the Castle Dungeon at the start, and from anywhere in the Dark World once you have the Master Sword. ALBW Zelda: gives you the Light Arrows, already had the first pendant (which she gives you) and wished for the restoration of Lorule's triforce alongside Link. OoT Zelda: the entire seven years we were out cold, she spent disguised as a Sheikah where she evades Ganondorf's forces, and once we're awake she helps us get around, gives us the first light arrows and helped seal him away WW/PH Zelda: is a pirate naned Tetra, and she has her badass moments. ST Zelda: can possess pgantoms and is essentially a playable companion BotW/TotK Zelda: nerd. Also ppeerful magic, when the plot lets her use it. TP Zelda: has "leads from the front" energy. HW Zelda: ACTUALLY leads from the front SS Zelda: has her own adventure which is covered in broad strokes during the credits EoW Zelda: the newest, and actually gets to be the main protagonist for once. Able to summon copies of monsters and objects, able to use equipment that lends her Link's power temporarily (and changes the playstile like GoW's Spartan Rage, circa God pf War 3 onward) Zelda always had the potential dor badassery imho. But you had to read the manual back in the early days to lnow that.

To be fair with the zelda timeine, for all it's problems, it was almost entierly a compiltion of known facts. Zelda 2 was always a sequel to the original, Link to the past was always a prequel to those,etc. The only things Hyrule Hystoria added was the Downfall timeline existing (the games set in it were stablished as being after Ocarina of time , but there was not known how they related to the other games) and the exact placement of four sword adventures being after twilight princess (it was originally only stablished to be a sequell to four sword, never how long in the future). I'm not defending or attacking the existense of a timeline, my only issue is with the idea that it was completly come up for the book, and the games never cared about it before.

They don't need to explain everything in detail. Simple implications are fine, especially when it isn't really important info. It is heavily implied in tears of the kingdom that the gaurdian tech is all repurposed. You can see some pieces used in the towers and stuff. That's fine. Don't need to know why or anything because it has no effect on the gameplay really. I can make a connection with what i see and move on and barely ever think about it again. Because now i can use the stuff i find to build stuff that could easily destroy a gaurdian anyway.

It's the bloodline of the goddess and Spirit of the hero. Not so much the triforce of courage. In Breath of the Wild and leading up to Tears of the Kingdom Purah cannibalized them for the lookout towers. In my head cannon the Zonai are white hat hackers, Gannon is a black hat hacker. The sheikah most definitely are hardware engineers that have zero clue about security and software.

That is a good metaphor for how Sheikah and Zonai tech work. Although the Zonai probably also knew their fair share of actual hardware and engineering as well since they have their own constructs.

It's fair enough that you don't care about canon in media, it isn't the sort of thing everyone needs to care about, but I have to wonder why would anyone spend millions of dollars buying a franchise like star wars or lord of the rings if not for the canon and the fan base that automatically comes with it? If you're not going to use that then surely you would be better off making something new, free from the burden of canon. Dragonball Evolution for example is worse because it is connected to the Dragon Ball franchise, it may not have had so many people go see it if it were something else but it would not have received so much hate either, it is burdened by its connection to to the franchise. At the end of the day, if you're going to work in a pre existing franchise you have a duty of care over it, and if you don't want that responsibility just make something brand new.

Look, I care about the timeline as much as it has made me care about important people, objects, and places. Lore of entire races depend on the "timeline". I myself love see returning elements, and just keep waiting for the Twili to make a return. I have a soft spot for misunderstood races in fantasy, and thr twilight people are so cool for if there is ever a return.

I do think timelines are important... but only when it is given official importance and references in other games... At that point you have to take the timeline into consideration. It becomes important for the fans of those individual fandoms even if the average engager with those games don't care and just want to play a good game.

11:20 it is heavily implied in TOTK that Purah rounded up all the defeated guardians to study them. Their legs are what holds link in place in the launch towers

I love how uncomfortable you can see Lucas get when Karl starts harping on zelda having no personality in her games, because he actually loves the games and knows that isn't true, and if we're being honest Link being the silent protagonist generally has less personality than Zelda. I remember when breath of the wild first released their teaser trailer and people were convinced Link was a girl this time, and there was just legit excitement over the idea.

Zelda is playable in 2 canonical games, but they aren't part of the main series; the Hyrule Warriors games, n she has tons of personality in those games even if half of the cut scenes in the 2nd game r her doubting herself. The Hyrule Warrior games r actually the ones that converged the timeline n then split it up again before n after Breath of the Wild in the timeline. 😹😹😹 of course I paused to write this n then u mentioned these games. But I do think that most people forget that they r cannon.

I mean the first Hyrule Warriors game is definitely not canon. Age of Calamity had help from Nintendo to get story elements correct, but I don't think that it's considered official canon by Nintendo considering they didn't even include either game in the new timeline they showed off this year. - Lucas
