So much symbolism in that final battle and ending. Link plunging the sword into Ganondorf at the same spot where he pulled it from Zelda's forehead. Sonia and Rauru joint their powers with Link like Zelda and Sonia did with Rauru. Diving into the same lake you most likely landed in diving from the Sky Islands for the first time. And everyone walking to join Zelda at the end like Link did in the postgame scene of BotW. This ending had me a mess

I had set my controller down because I thought it was past time for player input. I mean, it's just the ending cinematic right? When "Dive for Zelda" showed up at the bottom of my screen I lunged for my controller so hard that I actually bruised one of my knuckles and spilled my coffee all over the carpet. I didn't clean it up until the credits were rolling.

Friendly reminder that Missions are the way Link sees his goals. I fucking cried even harder when I realized that, even after learning and telling Purah about what happened to Zelda (which means that Link had already found her), the "Find Zelda" mission doesn't end until you manage to get her back to her former self, signifying that Link never accepted that they had found Zelda, and was willing to go even further beyond to save her.

I don't know if this is true in Tears of the Kingdom, but in the Japanese version of Breath of the Wild that was further shown because the objective descriptions of quests, whether they were main, side or shrine, were written as if Link was writing the description down. He even mentions in one mission description he can't wait to see Zelda smile again

Somehow I missed it when Link told Purah about Zelda. The only character I could tell about Zelda being the Light dragon was Impa (in the forgotten temple). When did Link tell Purah? After pulling the Master Sword? It might be I skipped through the dialogue too fast :/

Funny thing about that sequence is if you don't grab Zelda's hand you'll notice that after you fall a little both Link and Zelda are just suspended in air and your altitude isn't decreasing at all. The wind flying upward past Link is just giving the illusion of falling. I certainly don't know that because my morbid curiosity wondered what would happen if you let her fall... That'd be crazy if I did that...

it's really not very far at all that you are allowed to fall before you stop falling. It is much easier to notice that you've stopped falling if instead of looking down towards the ground (and Zelda) you tilt the camera up and look at the sky islands and how they seem to be getting farther and farther away at the pace you've come to expect until they just stop and hang in place. The illusion obviously was created with the understanding that the player will have the camera facing toward Zelda and the surface. As I was typing this I thought "why the hell didn't I even think to check the Z coordinate on the map until right now." If the z coordinate is visible during the sequence (it might not be I just never paid attention) I wonder if the number next to Z just stops changing or if they do something sneaky to help with the illusion.

I’ve been a Zelda fan since Ocarina of Time, and, as much as I’ve liked past incarnations of the character, BOTW/TOTK’s incarnation of Princess Zelda is the first one that I’ve really LOVED. You get a great sense for her internal struggle, her love not only for Link but also for Hyrule and its people, how she puts everything on the line to save Hyrule, and how she ultimately overcomes everything in the end. The way she swoops in to save Link during the Demon Dragon fight suggests that her love for Link is so strong that she sub-consciously knows to help him even if she's "asleep." I also love that her relationship with Rauru and Sonia allows her to grow as a person thanks to their love and kindess. She rejects the royal kingdom complex of her time period that put her under so much pressure and stress in favor of the indigenous Hyrule where she experienced love for not only her but her abilities. She makes decisions in TOTK not because she's an obedient princess but because she has found her own autonomy. But perhaps my favorite thing about her is I find the side of her that is obsessed with research to be absolutely adorable and endearing. I like to think that Link grew to love her the more he saw of her nerdy side. She’s also my favorite Zelda design-wise; she looks amazing in all of her outfits, particularly her default outfit in both games and her ritual outfit in TOTK.

@@javiervasquez625 there are games where a villain deserves heavy dimensionality, and then there’s the Zelda franchise. It’s nice when we get a Ganondorf with a ton of backstory, but it wholly not required. Besides that, there is a fair amount of *character* in this ganondorf even if it’s frankly unclear what his motivations are besides power and rule. I think it matches well with this version of link, who on the surface has much less character than some others but has lots of subtle character quirks.

@@connorblack99 Yet he still lacks depth as you pointed out making his motivations extremely shallow and barely engaging in any way that makes Link's motivation to stop him anything other than to stop a troll from harming people and ruining everyone's party. They could have done sooo much more with this character to the point of making one wonder if he's genuinely evil or if he may have ulterior motives aside from pure greed to force the player to sit back and ponder as to the true scope of the character's actions and what will happen should he "win" (again see someone like Sephirot for a morally complex antagonist). Alas Nintendo clearly didn't care about story with this incarnation of Ganondorf he's just the _badguy_ and so no matter how you try to rephrase it he's just as shallow and generic as when he was first written in 1998 only this time he has the legendary Matthew Mercer providing this shallow character with somewhat of a "personality". Wasted potential Nintendo.

I've seen the ending so many times and I'm still a mess every time... What really gets me that I didn't notice until the 2nd or 3rd time is how Link brings her close and tucks his head to protect her from the impact. I can't say enough good things about the emotional impact this game had on me.

I think this is definitely my favorite version of Ganondorf in the franchise so far. He's just so cool. And I love how he mirrors Link. We all know how freaking OP Link is supposed to be in this timeline. Like canonically he's a BEAST, in BotW we see a cutscene of the aftermath of him killing 20 bokoblins, several moblins and 3 lynels all at once with only the Master Sword, no shield and no bow with just a slight cut to his arm. And Ganondorf matches him. Ganondorf also uses all the main weapon types, one-handed swords, two-handed clubs, the lance and the bow. He uses it all. And he even uses the special attacks like the lance flurry, the one-handed spin attack and even the two-handed Lynel smash. And of course he just straight up flurry rushes you. It's no wonder that the sages couldn't beat him back then.

Facts. This Link is probably the strongest of them all, and on top of that, even with the Sages' help Ganondorf held his own. I was thinking the same thing during the fight too, just the fact that he's capable of flurry rushing Link means he's just as fast

I said the same, how they should finally kiss, or at the VERY least hug, but my friend pointed out that the Japanese are very fond of the "Will they won't they"-trope, and thus it'll probably be left vague going forwards. Though there are aspects of other games I like best, not a single one came close to the raw emotion of the TOTK finale. Moments like this are what the game designers work so hard for. All of the reactions in this game are so, so well thought-out. Mystery, curiosity, anxiety, fear, loss, dedication....all of it. Epic - in the truest sense of the word! And while I'm at it, you earned a subscriber. 😊

I loved the entire Fight between Link and Ganondorf and his minions. Not because of the fights themselves (those were kinda easy, I could have done that alone haha even though I suck at timing and reactions), but because of his allies. It felt like his reliable friends came in times of his need. And also when he fought Dragon Ganondorf, I loved it when Zelda came to aid him. This was perfect story telling IMO. And in the end catching Zelda soooooo gooooood and satisfying😭 I got so emotional in the end. The only thing I wished was that in the end Link actually talked to her! xD BTW I also fused Zelda's horn to the Master Sword (and also to the White sword from the Sky). Not only did it look the best, but I also did it for symbolic reasons. To symbolize Link and Zelda together are fighting Ganondorf. Not just her light power, but parts of her actual body.

This is one of those things where it's so good it's practically impossible to start. My mouth was completely agape almost the whole time, from entering the Hyrule Castle Depths to the final shot; all the tie-ins with the story, the displays of great power, the perfect ques, the heart-melting connections of faithfulness in the face of overwhelming evil, self sacrifice, selfless love. (All the pictures of the handshakes in the credits really got me, among _so much_ else). It's so beautiful. Almost enrapturing. I haven't played the game in a bit, but this still puts me in a state of reflection; a state of almost, floating - filled with a delightful emotion I can perhaps describe as joy. So beautiful. I hope we can see more works like this - works that absolutely _pierce_ the heart and go so, *so* far beyond just being a game, a movie, a show, or a book. That point to something far more beautiful than us. "How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer." -Sam Gamgee As Link clasped hands with Zelda, embraced her and saved her - I hope you can experience a loving hand clasp yours. The same nail-scarred hand that has held mine through _so much_.
