They're literally tears. Tears of the kingdom. It's fairly obvious that each dungeon will have one at the end.

The new official art they shared for Tears of the Kingdom makes it very clear that there's Malice coming out of the volcano AND a Vortex covering something to the left of Death Mountain.

@@jakesemerdjian9499 Also funfact: back in the original The Legend of Zelda for the NES Death Mountain was Ganon's Lair and the final dungeon to rescue Zelda. This might apply to the Tears of the Kingdom.

You do know that according to all the trailers both the Zonai and Ganondorf have been gone for 10.000+ before the events of Breath of the Wild happened? It wouldn't be possible for the current incarnation of Zelda's mother to somehow be the woman in the mural unless she herself was an inmortal being who after seemingly "sacrificing" herself to create the "Hand" sealing Ganondorf came back to life so that she could return to Hyrule and die in front of King Rhoam to confirm her passing. It's impossible for Zelda's mother to somehow be the woman shown in the mural.

NGL, as much as I love the title, the spelling does need to be clarified. Because is it 'Tears' as in TEARDROPS or 'Tears' as in TEARS like torn paper? Same spelling, different pronunciation, different meaning. I hope they clear this up unless they said it themselves what the name of it was at the Direct. I couldn't watch it due to me being in physical therapy at the time of the livestream and honestly, one or the other could make sense. 'Tears' as in teardrops could make sense regarding the 7 drop-like symbols around that figure and 'Tears' could also mean as in the kingdom is torn - literally/physically - from Ganondorf's corpse having woken up from underground. The fact that it looks like Death Mountain is spewing this new red Malice also makes it look like it's a risk to literally tear the kingdom apart so.. I dunno.. 8T
